Bali is an island and province of Indonesia. The province includes the island of Bali and a few smaller neighbouring islands, notably Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan. It is located at the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. Its capital of Denpasar is located at the southern part of the island.
With a population of 3,890,757 in the 2010 census, and 4,225,000 as of January 2014, the island is home to most of Indonesia's Hindu minority. According to the 2010 Census, 83.5% of Bali's population adhered to Balinese Hinduism, followed by 13.4% Muslim, Christianity at 2.5%, and Buddhism 0.5%.
Bali is a popular tourist destination, which has seen a significant rise in tourists since the 1980s. It is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. The Indonesian International Film Festival is held every year in Bali.
Bali is part of the Coral Triangle, the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. In this area alone over 500 reef building coral species can be found. For comparison, this is about 7 times as many as in the entire Caribbean. There is a wide range of dive sites with high quality reefs, all with their own specific attractions. Many sites can have strong currents and swell, so diving without a knowledgeable guide is inadvisable. Most recently, Bali was the host of the 2011 ASEAN Summit, 2013 APEC and Miss World 2013.
The term rai in Slavic languages is a term for a heavenly or earthly paradise. In some of these languages the term is a synonym with the Greco-Persian term paradise.
Etymology
The etymology of Common Slavic rai is disputed. It is now generally regarded as a direct borrowing from Iranian ray, "heavenly radiance, beatitude". If so then two Persian words ray ("radiance") and pardeis ("park") both separately passed into some Slavic languages; for example Russian where "paradise" is generally rai (Рай) but paradiz (Парадиз) from English is also encountered.
Alternative derivations have included:
"glad"
Proto-Slavic yrii, "land of warmth."
The term passed from Slavic usage into Romanian.
Usage
Slavonic
Usage of rai in Slavic languages differs from that of "paradise" in Western languages due in part to the influence of Old Church Slavonic versions of the Bible, which were translated from the Greek Septuagint. This influence is felt even in Protestant Slavic traditions such as Czech:
Genesis 2:8 Štípil pak byl Hospodin Bůh ráj v Eden na východ, "God planted a paradise in Eden in the East" (where Czech follows Slavonic, which follows Greek).
A rai (Thai:ไร่[râj]) is a unit of area, equal to 1 square sen (เส้น) or 1,600 square metres (40 m × 40 m), and is used in measuring land area for a cadastre or cadastral map. Its current size is precisely derived from the metre, but is neither part of nor recognized by the modern metric system, the International System (SI).
The rai equals 4 ngaan (Thai:งาน[ŋāːn]) or 400 tarangwa (Thai:ตารางวา[tāː.rāːŋ wāː]) aka square wa. The rai equals 0.3954 acres.
It is commonly used in Thailand and equals 16 ares, another unit that is based on the metre and commonly used in several countries. Although recognized by the SI, its use is not encouraged. The word also means plantation.
"Units of Measurement". Thailand Guru, a service of Export Quality Services Co., Ltd. Retrieved 15 April 2007. (which uses the name 'waa' instead of 'dtaaraangwaa' for the 'square waa')
"Thailand Information - Measurement". www.PureThailand.com. Retrieved 15 April 2007. (with spelling variants 'wah' and 'tara[a]ng wah' for 'waa' and 'dtaaraangwaa')

Discover two exciting stories in children's book publisher Scholastic's new ‘Voices’ series, showcasing some of the diverse, unsung historical figures who arrived on Britain’s shores and made it their home. Patrice Lawrence, winner of the Waterstones Book Prize for Orangeboy, transports you to the slums of Elizabethan London in Diver’s Daughter: A Tudor Story, where East African girl Eve and her family become involved in a perilous shipwreck salvaging mission. Bestseller Bali Rai’s Now or Never: A Dunkirk Story follows Fazal Khan from his Indian home to the battlefields of the Second World War, where bombs from above and discrimination from other soldiers threaten his life. The two writers talk with poet Hannah Lavery for this event for the 2020 Edinburgh International Book Festival Online.

It's Sunday morning and you struggle with the sheets You hear the alarm kick the snooze go back to sleep If you could only get up you would see what you were missin' He is always there if you just take the time to listen to His Mission His will He'll tell you what to do Now that it's been done it's up to you to see it thorough And then do it daily 'cause that's where it's at It'll help you keep your life on track It's on all day everyday kinda thing So many times we think we got it tough We go to church two times a year and you think that's enough To get by with our lives and look good in others' eyes Eventually with God we see there is no compromise We realize how weak we really are Without Him in your life then you won't make it very far 24-7 is the point I'm tryin to make A daily walk with Him is exactly what it takes
