Robert Muczynski wrote pieces not only for piano, but wrote for strings, saxophone, clarinet and flute as well. Shortly after writing his famous Sonata for Flute and Piano, Opus 14, between the years 1960 and 1961, Muczynski wrote Three Preludes for Unaccompanied Flute, Opus 18, in 1962. Despite the fact that this piece is called Three Preludes for Unaccompanied Flute, Muczynski meant them to be encores.
It is apparent after viewing these pieces that the different preludes portray the different characters of "jaunty, nocturnal, and free-wheeling."
A la seconde
(French pronunciation:[a la səɡɔ̃d]) A position of the leg to the side or a movement with the leg held to the side in second position, as in a pirouette à la seconde, in which a dancer turns with the working leg à la hauteur ('elevated') in second position
Also, one of the directions of the body, facing the audience (i.e. en face), arms in second position, with one leg extended to second position.
À la quatrième
(French pronunciation:[a la katʁijɛm]) One of the directions of body, facing the audience (en face), arms in second position, with one leg extended either to fourth position in front (quatrième devant) or fourth position behind (quatrième derrière).
À terre
(French pronunciation:[a tɛʁ]) Touching the floor.
Adagio
Italian, or French adage, meaning 'slowly, at ease.'
Beanie Babies are a line of stuffed animals, made by Ty Warner Inc., which was later renamed as Ty Inc. in November 1991. Each toy is stuffed with plastic pellets (or "beans") rather than conventional stuffing (see PVC and PE), giving Beanie Babies a flexible feel. In a rare interview Warner said "The whole idea was it looked real because it moved." During the latter half of the 1990s the toy emerged as a major fad
History
Nine original Beanie Babies were launched in 1993: Legs the Frog, Squealer the Pig, Spot the Dog, Flash the Dolphin, Splash the Whale, Chocolate the Moose, Patti the Platypus, Brownie the Bear (later renamed "Cubbie"), and Pinchers the Lobster (with some tag errors with "Punchers"). They were not in factory production until 1994. Sales were slow at first to the point that by 1995 many retailers either refused to buy the products in the bundles TY offered them while others outright refused to buy them in any form The popularity soon grew however. first starting locally in Chicago before growing into a national craze.
Allegro is a musical by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (book and lyrics), their third collaboration for the stage. Opening on Broadway on October 10, 1947, the musical centers on the life of Joseph Taylor, Jr., who follows in the footsteps of his father as a doctor, but is tempted by fortune and fame at a big-city hospital.
After the immense successes of the first two Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, Oklahoma! and Carousel, the pair sought a subject for their next play. Hammerstein had long contemplated a serious work which would deal with the problems of the ordinary man in the fast-moving modern world. He and Rodgers sought to create a work which would be as innovative as their first two-stage musicals. To that end, they created a play with a large cast, including a Greek chorus. The production would have no sets; props and projections served to suggest locations.
After a disastrous tryout in New Haven, Connecticut, the musical opened on Broadway to a large advance sale of tickets, and very mixed reviews. Agnes de Mille, the choreographer of Rodgers and Hammerstein's previous Broadway productions, both directed and choreographed the work. The show was viewed as too moralistic, and the Broadway run ended after nine months; it was followed by a short national tour. It had no West End production and has rarely been revived. There are two recordings of Allegro, the original cast album and a studio recording released in 2009.
"Emma", also known as "Emma, Emmaline" or "Emmeline", is a song by Errol Brown and Tony Wilson released as a single by British soul band Hot Chocolate in 1974. It reached number 3 in the UK Singles Chart and number 8 in the USBillboard Hot 100chart. After being asked by producer Mickie Most to add "depth and darkness" to his compositions, Brown wrote the song about the death of his mother.
Plot
The song details the love of the (nameless) singer and a girl called Emmaline from the age of five, through a wedding at 17 until her suicide at an unspecified later date. Emma it seems wanted to be a "movie queen" but could never find the breaks and eventually kills herself because "I just can't keep on living on dreams no more."
The Sisters of Mercy started performing the song live in 1983. The studio version was released on the b-side of the 12" version of their 1988 single, "Dominion", and on the 2006 re-release of the album, Floodland.
Inventor Frederick Smith's wife dies during the birth of their fourth baby, Ronnie, leaving the family in the care of their faithful housekeeper Emma. Twenty years later, after Smith's inventions have made the family rich, the affable Ronnie, who is Emma's favorite, arrives home from college, announcing that he wants to quit school and become a pilot. The other Smith children, Bill, Gypsy and Isabelle, have all grown into spoiled adults, but Emma lovingly indulges them all, making excuses for their bad behavior to their father and everyone else.
As Emma leaves for her first vacation in thirty-two years with the family, the absent-minded Frederick sadly takes her to the station. She gets cold feet and decides to stay home, but Frederick won't let her and decides to go along with her to Niagara Falls. Waiting for their train, Frederick proposes and Emma accepts, even though she is afraid that people will talk. When the children learn about the marriage, Ronnie is happy for them, but the other children are embarrassed by the blot on their social record. On their honeymoon, as the happy Frederick and Emma row on the lake, they are teased by some young vacationers, prompting Frederick to take the oars from Emma. The exertion causes a mild heart attack and they return home. As the contented Frederick listens to Emma sing to him, he dies, and a short time later, the family learns that he has left his entire estate to Emma.

French ballet terms with audio and illustrations
In this video you will find the French ballet terms used in my book "Ballet for Everybody - the Basics of Ballet for Beginners of All Ages". The illustrations here are from the book, but they are by no means meant as instructions - to learn ballet you have to have the book. Here they serve as a memory help. The only purpose of this video is to help people to learn the French terms. This should be especially helpful for people who want to learn ballet (for example with the help of a book) but are not able to attend classes.
Each term is spoken twice, with a little pause during which you can try yourself.

Insight: Ballet Glossary - Spotting
Akane Takada demonstrates the technique of spotting, a crucial skill for being able to execute swift turns on stage.
Spotting: A technique used in turns to maintain balance and direction. The dancer focuses the eyes on a set spot and keeps eye contact with it while turning the body. At the last moment, the dancer whips the head around and reconnects eye contact with the spot. This prevents the dancer becoming dizzy and gives them the appearance of turning very rapidly.

Insight: Ballet glossary - arms and feet
Romany Pajdak, Royal Ballet First Artist, demonstrates arm and feet positions.
Arm and feet positions: Ballet uses strictly defined positions through which most arm movements travel. Ballet dancers must have good natural turnout of the leg from their hip to enable them to stand in first position with the feet turned out to the sides.
