French ballet terms with audio and illustrations
In this video you will find the French ballet terms used in my book "Ballet for Everybody - the Basics of Ballet for Beginners of All Ages". The illustrations here are from the book, but they are by no means meant as instructions - to learn ballet you have to have the book. Here they serve as a memory help. The only purpose of this video is to help people to learn the French terms. This should be especially helpful for people who want to learn ballet (for example with the help of a book) but are not able to attend classes.
Each term is spoken twice, with a little pause during which you can try yourself.

Insight: Ballet Glossary - Spotting
Akane Takada demonstrates the technique of spotting, a crucial skill for being able to execute swift turns on stage.
Spotting: A technique used in turns to maintain balance and direction. The dancer focuses the eyes on a set spot and keeps eye contact with it while turning the body. At the last moment, the dancer whips the head around and reconnects eye contact with the spot. This prevents the dancer becoming dizzy and gives them the appearance of turning very rapidly.

Insight: Ballet glossary - arms and feet
Romany Pajdak, Royal Ballet First Artist, demonstrates arm and feet positions.
Arm and feet positions: Ballet uses strictly defined positions through which most arm movements travel. Ballet dancers must have good natural turnout of the leg from their hip to enable them to stand in first position with the feet turned out to the sides.
