In March of 1721, Johann Sebastian Bach carefully inked six of his best concertos into a book for the Margrave of Brandenburg, Christian Ludwig. The original title, "Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments" is now known as the "Brandenburg" Concertos in English or "Brandenburgische Konzerte" in German.
These six concertos represent the summa of chamber music in the high baroque period, and the third concerto (BWV 1048) is noted for its rich texture of three violins, three violas and three cellos, with a cont...

Bach - Brandenburg Concerto no. 3 in G major BWV 1048 - Sato | Netherlands Bach Society
The 'Brandenburg' Concerto no. 3, performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, is remarkable for its unusual form and instrumentation. Bach composed it for three violins, three violas, three cellos and basso continuo. In other words, 3x3, which is a rational choice you would expect from a modernist like Pierre Boulez, rather than a Baroque composer like Bach. There is no distinction between solo and ensemble instruments: all the strings play both solo and tutti.

Bach - Brandenburg Concerto no. 5 in D major BWV 1050 - Sato | Netherlands Bach Society
The Netherlands Bach Society performs the 'Brandenburg' Concerto in D major for All of Bach. Bach himself never went to Amsterdam, and Rembrandt never went to Leipzig or Berlin. However, there were many ties between the Republic of the Netherlands and Bach’s employers. Nowadays, both Rembrandt’s paintings and Bach’s music are regarded as icons of European art, and here they are presented as a unique combination for eye and ear.
For this recording, we were guests at the Gallery of Honour at the Rijksmuseum, in Amsterdam. We were invited to come and perform Bach’s unusual ‘Brandenburg' Concerto no. 5 in order to celebrate the loan of an exceptional harpsichord to the museum. For the recording, the original instrument, built by Johannes Ruckers in 1640, was played by harpsichordist Richard E...

BRANDENBURG, Germany 🇩🇪 - 4K
We are in Brandenburg an der Havel in eastern Germany near Berlin. The city in the state of the same name - Brandenburg. The city-area has a population of approximately 72,000 where fewer tourists visit compared to nearby Potsdam or Berlin.
On this tour of Brandenburg we start at the Mühlenbrücke, south of the New Town (Neustadt). We cross the bridge, pass the Steintor and walk along the Steinstraße to get to the center. Some summer rain starts.
For a little break of the rain we visit the Saint Catherine Church and then walk along the Hauptstraße towards the St. Johannis Church and the Old Town. Brandenburg was historically significant as the former capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg. There in the old town we see medieval and modern architecture. The rain stops so we also get to ...

Early History of House Hohenzollern (1200-1640) | History of Brandenburg-Prussia #4
Last week we've looked at the prehistory of the territories that would eventually be united in the state of Prussia and the Teutonic Order, the Warrior Monks that colonized it. Their atrocities left permanent marks on the lands. Yet it was the Teutonic Knights whose Grand Master, Albrecht of Brandenburg-Ansbach, in 1525, decided to use the Reformation as a pretence to secularize and claim the territories for himself and name himself 'Duke of Prussia'. It was the beginning of a long reign of the territory by the ambitious Hohenzollern clan, already Margraves of Brandenburg. This week, we'll look at the Hohenzollern dynastic history, how they became Margraves of Brandenburg and their ambition as a family. Welcome to the complete history of Prussia.

These six concertos represent the summa of chamber music in the high baroque period, and the third concerto (BWV 1048) is noted for its rich texture of three violins, three violas and three cellos, with a continuo part for the harpsichord and violone. The original title is as follows: "Concerto 3zo [terzo] a tre Violini, tre Viole, è tre Violoncelli col Basso per il Cembalo". On the continuo part, Bach has written "Violone & Cembalo", and this is how it is performed in the video, just as it is indicated in the original manuscript.
Brandenburg III makes an appearance in Season 6, Episode 19 “Lessons” of Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as the episode "A Matter of Time."
This concerto is part of the Voices of Music Great Works project. A Creative Commons edition of the score, based on the composer's manuscript, will be published to accompany the complete recording, and the recording will be available worldwide on Blu-Ray and CD, and for free on MP3 and high-definition, 24 bit FLAC files.

For the recording, the original instrument, built by Johannes Ruckers in 1640, was played by harpsichordist Richard Egarr.

The rain stops so we also get to see the Havel river and some waterways and plenty of the green spaces.
We complete our tour returning to our starting point at the Steintor to complete our Brandenburg walking tour.

It was (in part) thanks to the prudence and ambition of the Hohenzollern clan that led to the unpromising territory of Brandenburg-Prussia to become one of Europe’s most powerful states. The Hohenzollern family was originally from Swabia, a region in south-west Germany. Around the end of the twelfth century they had settled in Franconia and for the next 2 centuries, they enjoyed the title of Burgraves of Nuremberg. It wasn't really a position of rule, they were more or less nobility in name. As Burgraves, over the years they managed to acquire territorial domains in and around Ansbach and Bayreuth in the Holy Roman Empire.
In 1417 Frederick Hohenzollern, Burgrave of Nuremberg, a small and wealthy territory, purchased Brandenburg from its then sovereign, Emperor Sigismund. He had helped Sigismund to get elected as emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. 400.000 Hungarian gold guilders were paid, and in turn, it brought the Hohenzollerns land as well as prestige. His new title was Frederick the First, Elector of Brandenburg, a hereditary title. Brandenburg was one of the 7 electorates of the Holy Roman Empire. - then a patchwork of states and domains. Prince-Electors were members of the electoral college that elected the Holy Roman Emperor. Frederick suddenly gained much more power than he had as a simple Burgrave: he was 1 of the 7 Princes that elected the Emperor.

Castle in Lenne Park in Criewen Brandenburg - more than 500 castles and mansions, around 10,500 monuments, 23,000 archaeological sites, numerous idyllic inner towns and villages, market squares, alleys and churches. The sparsely populated agricultural area of Brandenburg stands in stark contrast to the densely populated metropolis of Berlin in particular. Brandenburg is located in the northeastern part of the Federal Republic of Germany. As the city-state and federal capital Berlin, Brandenburg forms a major metropolis and metropolitan area on a national and European scale. Destination 2018: Brandenburg an der Havel
Brandenburg is not the capital of Brandenburg, but it is a charming city built on a series of islands in the middle of a river -- and in one sense as old as Germany. May contain churches, watchtowers and a cathedral.

The capital of the state of Brandenburg is Potsdam, which borders Berlin to the southwest.

Brandenburg is not the capital of Brandenburg, but it is a charming city built on a series of islands in the middle of a river -- and in one sense as old as Germany. May contain churches, watchtowers and a cathedral.
