The line demarcating the Eastern and Western Hemispheres is an arbitrary convention, unlike the Equator (an imaginary line encircling the earth, equidistant from its poles) which divides the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The prime meridian at 0° longitude and the antimeridian, at 180° longitude are the conventionally accepted boundaries, since they divide eastern longitudes from western longitudes. This convention was established in 1884 at the International Meridian Conference held in Washington, D.C. where the standard time concepts of Canadian railroad engineer Sir Sandford Fleming were adopted. Using this demarcation puts portions of Western Europe, Africa and eastern Russia in the Western Hemisphere, thereby diluting its usefulness as a geopolitical construct, since all of Eurasia and Africa are typically included in the Eastern Hemisphere. Consequently, the meridians of 20°W and the diametrically opposed 160°E are often used, which includes all of the European and African mainlands, but also includes a small portion of northeast Greenland (typically reckoned as part of North America) and excludes more of eastern Russia and Oceania (e.g., New Zealand). Prior to the global adoption of standard time, numerous prime meridians were decreed by various countries where time was defined by local noon (thereby, local meridian).
The Earth can be divided into four hemispheres. The Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western

The Eastern Hemisphere
A time-lapse of Planet Earth, created from images produced by the geostationary Electro-L Weather Satellite. The images were obtained beginning on May 14th, and end on May 20th. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, each image is 121 megapixels, and the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. They are taken every half hour, and have been interpolated (smoothed) to create this video. The images are taken in four different wavelengths of light, three visible, and one infrared. The infrared light is reflected by forests and vegetation, which appear orange in these images.

Eastern Hemisphere
The Eastern Hemisphere is a geographical term for the half of the Earth that is east of the Prime Meridian and west of 180° longitude. It is also used to refer to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, vis-à-vis the Western Hemisphere, which includes the Americas. This hemisphere is called the "Oriental hemisphere". In addition, it may be used in a cultural or geopolitical sense as a synonym for 'Old World'. Also covering half of the east part of the Atlantic Ocean.
The line demarcating the eastern and western hemispheres is an arbitrary convention, unlike the equator which divides the northern and southern hemispheres. The Prime Meridian at 0° longitude and the Antimeridian, at 180° longitude are the conventionally accepted boundaries, since they divide eastern longitudes from western longi...

Sixth Grade Project - Stations to Discover the Eastern Hemisphere
To help cover standard one of the NY Social Studies Framework for sixth grade, consider a stations activity where you place folders for each of the major regions of the Eastern Hemisphere containing maps, charts, climate and demographic data for each region. Students would travel from station to station to discover the location, climate, culture, and adaption data for each area.

Be gentle with me, because it will be 8 o'clock in the morning where I live in Germany:-) On a Sunday morning too!

HOORAY! This is my first live stream that I'm doing at a time more convenient for people in the Eastern Hemisphere (I'm thinking mainly of Australia and NZ). But I've chosen a time that might also be OK for some friends on the Western side of the USA and Canada.
Be gentle with me, because it will be 8 o'clock in the morning where I live in Germany:-) On a Sunday morning too!
It will be mostly Q&A and chat, but I will also be available for some readings. Last live stream I did, there was a moment of confusion where I mixed up who I was reading for. Bear in mind that I'm doing these live streams on my phone - the chat appears quite small and one has to scroll up and down to follow it! So from now on I will limit readings, and put some time gaps between them. Like this:
I will be available for a maximum of three readings:
one around 7:15 GMT,
one around 7:30 GMT
and one around 7:45 GMT.
If you want a reading, come online and let me know, and I will make bookings. If it's important for you, come online at the start of the live stream and book early. But I don't think it will be very crowded this time:-)
For anyone who doesn't get a reading but would like a little bit of inspiration, I can draw one of my home-made "morning cards" (also known as my anti-depressive cards:-))
Looking forward!
