Situated between Dease Strait and Queen Maud Gulf on the southeast coast of Victoria Island (Kitlineq), part of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Cambridge Bay is a transportation and administrative centre for the Kitikmeot Region. To the north of the community is Ferguson Lake (Inuinnaqtun: Tahiryuaq or Tahikyoak) which flows into Wellington Bay via the Ekalluk River. The Ekalluk River is both an important commercial fishing and archaeological area, and of particular importance is the short section of the river known as Iqaluktuuq.
The federal electoral district was created in 1976 and consisted of the city of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries. In 1987, part of the city of Kitchener was added to the district. In 1996, the boundaries were redrawn again to include a slightly different section of Kitchener. The current boundaries, which are the same as the original definition and contain no parts of Kitchener, were defined in 2003.
Note: Conservative vote is compared to the total of the Canadian Alliance vote and Progressive Conservative vote in 2000 election. John Gots' vote as a CHP candidate is compared to his vote in 2000 as an unaffiliated candidate.
A series of commuter rail depots have been located at Porter Square under various names since the 1840s. The modern station with both subway and commuter rail levels was designed by Cambridge Seven Associates and opened on December 8, 1984. At 105 feet (32m) below ground, the subway section is the deepest station on the MBTA system. The station originally had six artworks installed as part of the Arts on the Line program; five remain, including Gift of the Wind and Glove Cycle.
Canada (i/ˈkænədə/; French: [ka.na.da]) is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98million square kilometres (3.85million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area and the fourth-largest country by land area. Canada's border with the United States is the world's longest land border. Canada is sparsely populated, the majority of its land territory being dominated by forest and tundra and the Rocky Mountains; about four-fifths of the country's population of 35 million people live near the southern border. The majority of Canada has a cold or severely cold winter climate, but southerly areas are warm in summer.
The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the Atlantic coast, with the first establishment of a region called "Canada" occurring in 1537. As a consequence of various conflicts, the United Kingdom gained and lost territories within British North America until left, in the late 18th century, with what mostly geographically comprises Canada today. Pursuant to the British North America Act, on July 1, 1867, the colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotiajoined to form the autonomous federal Dominion of Canada. This began an accretion of provinces and territories to the self-governing Dominion to the present ten provinces and three territories forming modern Canada. In 1931, Canada achieved near total independence from the United Kingdom with the Statute of Westminster 1931, and full sovereignty was attained when the Canada Act 1982 removed the last remaining ties of legal dependence on the British parliament.

'Growing Up in Cambridge Bay' charts the experiences and lives of local youth in Cambridge Bay in the Arctic Circle. They document traditional fishing, hunting, Arctic sports, local legends on the origin of death and musical traditions such as throat singing.
Community elders from Cambridge Bay also perform drum dances and discuss their perspectives on a rapidly changing future for the community and their way of life. Their next video documents building a traditional kayak alongside their elders.

Creating and sharing these video stories enables Indigenous peoples to contemplate and present their own perspectives on the effects of climate change to inform the global discourse. This has also created an opportunity to share local adaptation strategies and build donor support for community-based adaptation. Indigenous videographers are training people from other communities, helping to create a regional and a global network of Indigenous communities working on these issues. Communities participating in CWE are creating their own media and linking up through the emerging media hub network.

Why Canada's Northernmost Town Exists
Grise Fiord is Canada's northernmost town and sits in the northern region of Nunavut Canada. This is one of the northernmost towns in the world sitting well into the Arctic Circle. With 24 hour darkness in the winter and 24 hour light in the summer, I explain why this town exists and how the town is able to operate in such a cold, arctic climate.

Nunavut Travel Guide 2024 - Best Places to Visit in Nunavut Canada in 2024
Established in 1999, Nunavut is Canada's largest and northernmost territory, carved from the former Northwest Territories. Spanning an impressive 1.9 million square kilometers—nearly eight times the size of the United Kingdom—Nunavut makes up about one-fifth of Canada's total land area. Its southern boundary lies at the sixtieth parallel, stretching northward to within 800 kilometers of the North.
This vast region is predominantly above the tree line, characterized by treeless tundra filled with dwarf shrubs, grasses, mosses, and lichens, while dramatic fjords cut into the coastline. Nunavut is also a hub for thriving craft and handicraft businesses, showcasing the creativity and culture of its communities. For those planning an adventure in Canada’s Far North, be sure to check out our v...

The Western Arctic has changed a lot in the last 10 years and there are many more changes to come in the future. When we were in Cambridge Bay (Iqaluktuuttiaq), Nunavut we noticed a booming tourism industry, a strong Inuit culture and we heard many plans for increased research and shipping in the area. Watch our video to learn more.
This film was made during a Participatory Video project undertaken by InsightShare as part of Conversations with the Earth (CWE) - a partnership through which InsightShare works with Indigenous communities to identify, train, and equip local videographers to enable them to record the impacts of, and responses to, climate change at the local level.

In August 2012, the residents of Cambridge Bay invited the Google Maps team to come help map their community. Residents attended a Map Up to update Google Maps through Map Maker and also got to take the Street View trike out for a spin to let the world see their world. After the BLAST telescope launched from Arctic Sweden, we knew only that it would land some where in Arctic Canada, but we didn't know where. I wanted to document the recovery, but where to fly to somewhere far above the Arctic Circle? Eventually, I just went to JFK Airport and waited for news of my destination...READ MORE: http://bit.ly/dKERDa Distributed by Tubemogul.

Onboard their little wooden 29 foot junk-rig yacht Teleport, Jess and Chris set sail from Cambridge Bay in the Canadian Arctic where they left their yacht frozen on a hillside for the winter, to sail onwards to Ulukhaktok (Holman), Banks Island, then Tuktoyaktuk on their Northwest Passage adventure.
Ever wondered what Iqaluit, Nunavut is like? I (Tom) got to spend a short amount of time exploring the sights and sounds of the arctic city Iqaluit. It's the only community and city in the whole Nunavut territory in Canada and it's really something else. Join me on this little arctic adventure that I wanted to share with you all.
For those wondering, I was on my way to *Alert, Nunavut* and even made a video of what it's like there.
