Donkey Kong Country Returns (Donkey Kong Returns(Japanese:ドンキーコングリターンズ,Hepburn:Donkī Kongu Ritānzu)) is a 2010 side-scrollingplatformervideo game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the Wii console. The game was released in North America on November 21, 2010, in Australia on December 2, 2010, in Europe on December 3, 2010, and in Japan on December 9, 2010. A stereoscopic port of the game, titled Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in Europe and North America on May 24, 2013, in Australia on May 25, 2013, and in Japan on June 13, 2013.
The game's story focuses on a group of evil creatures called Tikis known as the Tiki Tak Tribe that arrive on Donkey Kong Island, and hypnotize the island's animals to steal Donkey Kong's bananas. This forces him to retrieve the hoard with the help of his nephew Diddy Kong. Donkey Kong Country Returns is the series' first traditional home console installment since Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (2005), and also the first Donkey Kong Country entry not to involve video game developer Rare during its development. The game received generally positive reviews, receiving an average score of 87% on GameRankings and Metacritic, and selling 4.96 million copies worldwide by the end of March 2011.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a 2014 side-scrollingplatformervideo game developed by Retro Studios, with assistance from Monster Games, and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. Originally slated to be released in November 2013, it was delayed until December 6, then again until February 14, 2014. The game was released in Japan on February 14, 2014, in North America and Europe on February 21, 2014 and in Australia on February 22, 2014. The fifth installment in the main Donkey Kong Country series, and the first in high-definition, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is the direct sequel to the 2010 Wii game, Donkey Kong Country Returns.
The game is set on "Donkey Kong Island" and centres around Donkey Kong and his nephew Diddy Kong, who must recover their stolen hoard of bananas from King K. Rool and the Kremlings. Development of the game first began shortly after Rare's Tim and Chris Stamper ran experiments with a Silicon Graphics workstation, rendering realistic 3D sprites. Nintendo became interested in Rare's work and soon acquired 49% of the company which culminated in the production of a new title using Alias and SGI technology for the SNES console. The Stamper brothers expressed an interest to create a standalone Donkey Kong game, and assembled a team of 12 to work on the game over an 18-month development cycle.
The story revolves around Diddy Kong and his girlfriend, Dixie Kong, who try to rescue Donkey Kong after he is abducted by King K. Rool. The game is set on "Crocodile Isle", in which there are eight worlds of varying environments, totalling to 47 levels. The game utilises the same Silicon Graphics technology from the original, which features the use of pre-rendered 3D imagery. Diddy's Kong Quest received critical acclaim. Praise was directed at its graphics, gameplay and varying colour palette. However, retrospective reviews expressed scepticism over its lack of ambition and change from the original. It was the second best selling game of 1995 and the sixth best-selling game on the SNES.
Donkey Kong 64(Japanese:ドンキーコング64,Hepburn:Donkī Kongu Rokujūyon), is a 1999 platformingvideo game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo as a first-party title for the Nintendo 64 console. Initially released on 24 November 1999 in North America, it subsequently came out in Europe on 6 December and Japan on 10 December of the same year. The game is a follow-up to the Donkey Kong Country trilogy on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, with many levels containing elements from those games, such as the mine carts and the bonus stages. It was originally planned to be titled Donkey Kong Country 64. Donkey Kong 64 follows the adventures of Donkey Kong and four of his simian relatives as they try to win back their hoard of Golden Bananas and banish King K. Rool. Players can control all five Kongs in eight individual levels, as well as a greater world map, a multiplayer mode and several minigames.
Donkey Kong 64 was one of only three Nintendo 64 games to require the Expansion Pak (the others being The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark), which provides 4 MB more RAM for enhanced graphics and more expansive environments, as well as to fix a game-breaking bug. The game was well received by critics upon release, and went on to become a Player's Choice title. For over eight years, Donkey Kong 64 was not made available on Nintendo's Virtual Console service, despite the fact that Nintendo retained full rights to the game as their intellectual property. However, on 1 April 2015, it was announced the game would be released on the Wii U Virtual Console on 16 April 2015 in North America and after the Nintendo Direct presentation in Japan and Europe. The game has been re-released "as is" on the Virtual Console, including the original unlockable arcade version of Donkey Kong intact as well as retaining all references to Rare, including their game Jetpac.
101% longplay (this game has an extra %, it's a tradition with the DKC games). All bonus rooms and KONG letters are shown.
There is a bit of a weird glitch involving the KONG letters that happens a few times throughout this longplay. Basically what happens is this: I get a certain number of KONG letters, I collect three animal tokens, I play an animal mini-game and then get taken back to the main level. When I get the next KONG letter, the game acts like I didn't get the previous KONG letters that I got before the animal mini-game! This glitch isn't game-breaking or anything, but it may confuse some people. So if you see the game acting like I didn't collect certain KONG letters, rest assured that I actually did get them.

This is a video walkthrough / playthrough / runthrough / etc of the SNES game Donkey Kong Country.
Firstly, let me say I'm pretty sure I collect all the letters in each stage, though you'll notice that sometimes I end a stage looking like I missed a K or an O. It seems the reason that happened is because after collecting a letter, before I get to a checkpoint barrel, I happen to collect an animal token which takes me to a bonus stage. After the bonus stage, I restart the level, and the letter is then missing. I noticed this doesn't happen when I go into a bonus stage after hitting a checkpoint.
And it was almost a perfect run, but I did lose a monkey a few times...

The Making of Donkey Kong Country & Killer Instinct / Pre-rendered graphics
As a follow-up to my Aladdin / Cel animation video I decided to give the Donkey Kong video a huge overhaul. Both videos will be part of a mini series about the influence of technological advancements in tools and development processes in 16-bit video games. Part one: Cel animation, Part two: 3D packages, I'm planning to do a 3rd video eventually. I've also added Killer Instinct (one of my favorite arcades games ever) and the awesome Donkey Kong Country 2 to this video.

This was recorded on an emulator (snes9x) with a USB controller in one sitting; no save states or re-recording tools were used. I died a bunch of times during the recording, but the deaths have all been edited out, so none of them appear in the video.
Lastly, it's probably best that I explain what I did from 1:04:21 - 1:04:32. In the level Oil Drum Alley, in one of its bonus rooms you have to get three bananas, then a barrel will appear. You then have to use that barrel to break the right wall to enter a bonus room within a bonus room (!). To do it properly you need to grab the barrel as soon as you can, then hold right while jumping. This is kind of tricky to pull off if you don't know what you're doing, so I thought I'd bring mention to it in case it confuses anyone.

I remember a loooooong time ago, I had received a promotional VHS tape from Nintendo showing off this game. At the time I thought it was freaking amazing (I still do...A shame what happened to Rare though...Tsk tsk...) Needless to say, I've been playing this game for quite some time....
