In 1980, Claude McKnight (older brother of R&B musician Brian McKnight) formed an a cappella quartet, The Gentlemen's Estates Quartet, at Oakwood College (now Oakwood University), a Seventh-day Adventist university in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was a freshman. He auditioned fellow students for the hobby group. The Gentlemen were rehearsing in a campus bathroom (later said to be in Moran Hall), getting ready for a performance, when Mark Kibble heard them singing. He joined the harmonizing, adding a fifth part, and ended up singing with them onstage that very night. Mark later invited Mervyn Warren to join the group. The group performed under the moniker Alliance.
Take 6, released in 1988 on Reprise Records, is the debut album by American contemporary Gospel music group Take 6. The album won the group their first two Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Soul Gospel Performance by a Duo, Group, Choir, or Chorus. It also earned the group their first three Dove Awards for Group of the Year, Contemporary Black Gospel Album of the Year, and Contemporary Black Gospel Song of the Year.
The album Take 6 is often mistakenly thought to be named do be doo wop bop, because that phrase appears on the album cover under the letters of the group's name. The album's legal title is Take 6, and the cover's designer, Kav DeLuxe, has stated the phrase "do be doo wop bop" was included simply as a "design element."
Background
In 1987 Take 6 held an exclusive performance for gospel record company executives. Yet, many refrained from attending, unsure how to market such a musical group. Fortunately, an uninvited representative of Warner Bros, showed up who was impressed with a tape he’d received of the group. "When I first played their tape," Jim Ed Norman said, "I heard the most enchanting, wonderful sound in music coming from the human voice that I had heard in the longest time."
Delilah (/dɪˈlaɪlə/; Hebrew:דלילהDəlilah, meaning "[She who] weakened") is a character in the Hebrew bible Book of Judges, where she is the "woman in the valley of Sorek" whom Samson loved, and who was his downfall. Her figure, one of several dangerous temptresses in the Hebrew Bible, has become emblematic: "Samson loved Delilah, she betrayed him, and, what is worse, she did it for money," Madlyn Kahr begins her study of the Delilah motif in European painting.
The story of Samson in Judges 13–16 portrays a man who was given great strength by God but who ultimately loses his strength when Delilah allows the Philistines to shave his hair during his slumber (Judges 16:19). Samson was born into an Israelite family, the son of Manoah and his wife who is never named. Both are visited by the Angel of the Lord and told that their child will be a Nazirite from birth.
Biblical narrative
Delilah was approached by the lords of the Philistines, to discover the secret of Samson's strength, "and we will give thee, every one of us, eleven hundred pieces of silver." Three times she asked Samson for the secret of his strength, and all three times he gave her a false answer. The first time, he told her, "If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man." Then he told her, "If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man." The third time, he told her, "If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web...." On the fourth occasion, he gave her the true reason: that he did not cut his hair in fulfillment of a vow to God; and Delilah, when Samson was asleep on her knees, called up her man to shave off the seven locks from his head, then betrayed him to his enemies: "The Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house."
Delilah is a Canadian situation comedy television series which aired on CBC Television from 1973 to 1974.
Premise
Delilah marked the CBC's first situation comedy in prime-time, having aired its previous sitcom Toby in daytime.
Delilah (Terry Tweed) moves out of the city and becomes a small community's first female barber. Her barbershop was intended to be given to her younger brother Vincent (Miles McNamara), but he must first graduate from school.
Other series characters include Delilah's Aunt Peggy (Barbara Hamilton, the town's newspaper editor T.J. (Eric House), family friend Franny Tree (Peter Mews), Frances (Kay Hawtrey), Mavis (Joyce Gordon) and Isabel (Paulle Clark).
Production
Delilah was recorded before a live studio audience. Six of the episodes were written by Bryan Barney under script editor Jean Templeton.
Scheduling
This half-hour series was broadcast on Thursdays at 9:00p.m. (Eastern) from 4 October 1973 to 3 January 1974.
Reception
The series generally received poor reviews and negative audience reception. It was cancelled after a single 13-episode season.Delilah was one of several CBC flops during the early 1970s, including Corwin and McQueen, the product of inferior creativity. However, CBC's next sitcom, King of Kensington, fared much better and became a multi-year success.Toronto Star television critic Jim Bawden declared the series as "Worst Canadian Sitcom", declaring the scriptwriting to be "appalling" and discovered an absence of laughter from the audience when he attended a taping of an episode.

Arnaud Look Tell me to go This can't go on, I should be gone Tell me to go Please... Tell me to leave This is all wrong, I don't belong Tell me to go Though I was given his name... No! How could I be the same as him? He was part of your life Lived a life I was made for, that I prayed for all those years Somewhere, where I hoped to find someone Now I find myself near you, if I hear you say the words I'll go Bertrande (she turns away from him and lifts her hands in prayer) Oh Lord, who is this man? Can I trust what I've heard? All I can hear is his pain Has he crafted each word? And yet there's something more... Has something died or is this what I've waited for? No! Arnaud Tell me to go Bertrande This can't go on! Arnaud I should be gone, tell me to go Bertrande Lord! Arnaud Tell me to leave Bertrande This must be wrong! Arnaud I don't belong, tell me to go They think Martin is my name They all believe I'm a part of your life All the years that I waited, was it fated from the start? Somewhere, where I hoped to find someone Now if I find myself near you, if I hear you say the words... Bertrande (overlapping with above) They all believe it's just a name! They believe you're the same, that you are a part of my life All the years that I waited, was it fated from the start? Somewhere, where I hoped to find someone Now I find myself near you And I hear you say the words... Arnaud I'll go... Just one last look at you, one look and then I'll go my way... Bertrande They'll make me marry a man I hate. I was only safe when Martin was alive Arnaud I'm the only one who knows he died. No one else need ever know. Bertrande Who else knows you're not Martin? Arnaud Only the fool, Benoit. Bertrande He will not betray me, he's my friend. No one else need ever know... Arnaud Please...tell me to leave! (The villagers return. Bertrande turns to leave, and runs into Guillaume. She pulls away from him in disgust, and embraces Arnaud. The villagers cheer. Bertrande and Arnaud are separated by the villagers, who congratulate them, but they continue to stare at each other.)
