The Cuban Missile Crisis Explained In 20 Minutes | Best Cold War Documentary
The Cuban Missile Crisis is the closest the world has ever come to nuclear apocalypse. An ever-escalating arms race had led to the deployment of Soviet missiles in Cuba, which were now prepped and ready to fire on Washington, New York, and almost the entire Eastern Seaboard. The defining event of the Cold War, it would see the world’s leading superpowers fight in a dangerous battle for nuclear superiority just 90 miles from the American coast. For 13 days in October 1962, American President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev would engage in a battle of wills, where one wrong move could lead to global destruction. Time was ticking, and neither side knew how events were about to unfold.

After President Kennedy's television address, tensions are rising. Fidel Castro is getting annoyed at the US and Soviet Union alike, and everyone else has their own ideas on what retaliation looks like.

Cuban missile crisis refers to the event during cold war period in 1962 when Russia deployed missiles in Cuba. The period between October 16, 1962 to October 28 1962 was the time during which this crisis prevailed. This was so tense time in the history of the world because the incident was ringing the bells of a third world war. And if it would have happened then the world would have been devastated because this war was supposed to be fight with nuclear weapons. Cuba which is basically a small island became the battle ground for two super powers US and USSR at that time. World was standing at the edge of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. But later on this matter settled down peacefully.

Colonel Osvaldo Fernandez was one of the few Cubans who actually knew what was going on at the time. As a young liaison officer, his job was to follow the Soviet troops to the various sites where their deadly nuclear missiles would be installed, to save Cuba from a US invasion. 45 years on Colonel Fernandez meets with Russian general Victor Yesin, who pays a last visit to Cuba, to see the place where he served as a young lieutenant in charge of putting the warheads on the missiles.
