Jack the Ripper is the best known name given to an unidentified serial killer generally believed to have been active in the largely impoverished areas in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. The name "Jack the Ripper" originated in a letter written by someone claiming to be the murderer that was disseminated in the media. The letter is widely believed to have been a hoax, and may have been written by journalists in an attempt to heighten interest in the story and increase their newspapers' circulation. The killer was called "the Whitechapel Murderer" as well as "Leather Apron" within the crime case files, as well as in contemporary journalistic accounts.
Attacks ascribed to Jack the Ripper typically involved female prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of the East End of London whose throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations. The removal of internal organs from at least three of the victims led to proposals that their killer had some anatomical or surgical knowledge. Rumours that the murders were connected intensified in September and October 1888, and letters were received by media outlets and Scotland Yard from a writer or writers purporting to be the murderer. The "From Hell" letter received by George Lusk of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee included half of a preserved human kidney, purportedly taken from one of the victims. The public came increasingly to believe in a single serial killer known as "Jack the Ripper", mainly because of the extraordinarily brutal character of the murders, and because of media treatment of the events.
The film borrowed icons from previously successful horror films, such as Dracula (1958) and The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), by giving the Ripper a costume of a top hat and cape. The plot is a standard "whodunit" with the usual false leads and a denouement in which the least likely character, in this case "Sir David Rogers" played by Ewen Solon, is revealed as the culprit. As in Matters' book, The Mystery of Jack the Ripper, Solon's character murders prostitutes to avenge the death of his son. However, Matters used the ploy of the son dying from venereal disease, while the film has him committing suicide on learning his lover is a prostitute.
Plot
In 1888, Jack the Ripper is on his killing spree. Scotland Yard Inspector O'Neill (Byrne) welcomes a visit from his old friend, New York City detective Sam Lowry (Patterson), who agrees to assist with the investigation. Sam becomes attracted to modern woman Anne Ford (McDowall) but her guardian, Dr. Tranter (Le Mesurier), doesn't approve. The police slowly close in on the killer as the public becomes more alarmed. The killer's identity is revealed and he meets a ghastly end.
The Los Angeles Times reported in 2009 that Electronic Arts' Visceral Games studio had the game in development. In 2011 and 2012 then-former Visceral Games artists released some game artwork on their websites, and gaming websites reported that the game had been canceled in 2009.
Plot
The game is a "re-imagining" of Jack the Ripper who instead of murdering prostitutes, will be battling the demons of the night who dwell on the streets of London.
It tells the story of "Jack the Ripper" from the rippers point of view. It has become a fan favorite and is one of the band's signature songs. Glenn Tipton penned the song shortly after joining the band, but producer Rodger Bain rejected including it on their first album Rocka Rolla. The original version that Tipton wrote was much longer than the one eventually included on Sad Wings of Destiny at nearly eight minutes as well as played at a slower tempo. It can be heard on some early bootlegs from 1975-76.
Jack the Ripper is a pseudonym given to an unknown man active in the killings in largely impoverished districts in and around Whitechapel, London, in late 1888.

You're in for surprise You're in for a shock In London town streets When there's darkness and fog When you least expect me And you turn your back I'll attack I smile when I'm sneaking Through shadows by the wall I laugh when I'm creeping But you won't hear me at all All hear my warning Never turn your back On the ripper You'll soon shake with fear Never knowing if I'm near I'm sly and I'm shameless Nocturnal and nameless Except for "The Ripper" Or if you like "Jack The Knife" Any back alley street Is where we'll probably meet Underneath a gas lamp Where the air's cold and damp I'm a nasty surprise I'm a devil in disguise I'm a footstep at night I'm a scream of the fright All hear my warning Never turn your back
