Cincinnati (ca. 1860–1878) was General Ulysses S. Grant's most famous horse during the American Civil War. He was the son of Lexington, the fastest four-mile Thoroughbred in the United States (time 7:19.75 minutes) and one of the greatest sires. Cincinnati was also the grandson of the great Boston, who sired Lexington.
At an early age, Grant emotionally bonded to horses. A shy, quiet child, he found joy in working with and riding them. Grant excelled in horsemanship at West Point, and at graduation, he put on an outstanding jumping display. Grant owned many horses in his lifetime, including one named Jeff Davis, so named because he acquired it during his Vicksburg Campaign from Jefferson Davis's Mississippi plantation.
Cincinnati was a gift from an admirer during the War. The horse was large (17hands (68inches, 173cm)), handsome, and powerful, and he quickly became Grant's favorite. When Grant rode Cincinnati to negotiate Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House, the animal became immortalized. Virtually all depictions of Grant in drawings, granite, and bronze, are astride Cincinnati including at the Ulysses S. Cincinnati magazine is a monthly lifestyle magazine concerning life in and about Cincinnati, Ohio. It was created by the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce in 1967. It was then purchased by CM Media in 1981. By 1997, the magazine had a circulation of some 30,000 and was acquired by its present owner, Emmis Communications. During the early-mid-2000s, the magazine prospered, doubling both circulation and revenues and moving its facilities to Cincinnati's tallest building, Carew Tower. It is a member of the City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA).
With the Missouria and the Otoe, the Ioway are the Chiwere-speaking peoples, claiming the Ho-Chunks as their "grandfathers." Their estimated population of 1,100 (in 1760) dropped to 800 (in 1804), a decrease caused mainly by smallpox, to which they had no natural immunity.
Their name has been said to come from ayuhwa ("asleep"). Early European explorers often adopted the names of tribes from the ethnonyms which other tribes gave them, not understanding that these differed from what the peoples called themselves. Thus, ayuhwa is not an Ioway word. The word Ioway comes from Dakotan ayuxbe via French aiouez. Their autonym (their name for themselves) is Báxoje, pronounced [b̥aꜜxodʒɛ] (alternate spellings: pahotcha, pahucha,), which translates to "grey snow". Báxoje has been incorrectly translated as "dusted faces" or "dusty nose", since the Ioway words use different consonants.
IOWA is an independent neo-noir film directed, written and starring Matt Farnsworth. The film follows two young Iowan lovers who decide to cook their own methamphetamine. The film was met with highly negative reviews.
Plot
After his father dies, Esper Harte learns that he may collect on his father's insurance. However, his mother and a crooked cop want to get rid of him so that they can take the money.
Desperate to escape their problems, Esper and his girlfriend, Donna Huffman, decide to cook their own methamphetamine.
The film received negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes reports 15% of surveyed critics liked it, with a 3.9/10 rating average out of 13 reviews.Metacritic gave it a score of 35/100, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews".
Slant Magazine called the film "stupendously slipshod" and "meandering, amateurish sleaze", while The New York Times criticized the lack of subtlety. In a more positive review, The Village Voice praised the film's energy and acting.Monsters and Critics said "This story and the characters in it are as real as the day is long and faithful to all that is good and bad about growing up with ever shrinking horizons."
Iowa Highway 5 is a highway in southern Iowa. It is a north–south highway with a length of 105 miles (169km). It is the northernmost segment of a three-state "Highway 5" also involving Missouri Route 5 and Arkansas Highway 5. Portions of the highway are freeway and expressway. It had previously been designated Iowa Highway 60. The southern terminus of Iowa Highway 5 is at the Missouri border southwest of Cincinnati. Its northern terminus is at Interstate 35 at West Des Moines.
Iowa 5 and Iowa 92 then become a freeway bypass of Knoxville, bypassing Knoxville on its south side, intersecting Iowa Highway 14 on the bypass. After the bypass, Iowa 5 and Iowa 92 become an expressway. Iowa 5 then separates from Iowa 92 near Pleasantville. Iowa 5 then turns north, bypasses Pleasantville, and intersects Iowa Highway 316 northwest of Pleasantville. Iowa 5 continues northwest past Hartford and Carlisle, then intersects U.S. Highway 65. Iowa 5 then goes west as a freeway with U.S. 65 to an interchange with U.S. Highway 69, where U.S. 65 separates in Des Moines. Iowa 5 then continues west as a southeastern freeway bypass of Des Moines, intersecting Iowa Highway 28 at Norwalk and ends in West Des Moines at Interstate 35.
Freedom. All our lives we've been told that freedom means being unrestrained—no rules, no limits. Trouble is, we've chased that freedom, and found only fear and isolation. In reality, freedom isn't really about restraints. It's about meaning. This weekend, professional horse trainer Todd Pierce is going to show us—through the eyes of an untamed horse—what it looks like to leave behind our wildness and embrace the freedom that a loving God offers.
