The cicadas (/sɪˈkɑːdə/ or /sɪˈkeɪdə/), are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea, of insects in the order Hemiptera (true bugs). They are in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha, along with smaller jumping bugs such as leafhoppers and froghoppers. It is divided into the Tettigarctidae, with two species in Australia, and Cicadidae, with more than 1,300 species described from around the world; many undescribed species remain.
Cicadas have prominent eyes set wide apart, short antennae, and membranous front wings. They have an exceptionally loud song, produced not by stridulation but by vibrating drumlike tymbals rapidly. The earliest fossil Cicadomorpha appeared in the Upper Permian period; extant species occur all around the world in temperate to tropical climates. They typically live in trees, feeding on sap, and laying their eggs in a slit in the bark. Most cicadas are cryptic, singing at night to avoid predators. The periodic cicadas spend most of their lives as underground nymphs, only emerging after 13 or 17 years, most likely to reduce losses by satiating their predators.
Cicada is the self-titled debut album from the electronic band Cicada. Released in the UK during summer 2006 on Critical Mass Records, the album contained several songs that the band had released previously as 12-inch singles ("Electric Blue", "Cut Right Through", "The Things You Say").
The album spans various styles of electronic music, including house, electro, downtempo and dub. Upon release Cicada earned positive reviews by music critics.
Cicada (May 9, 1959 – 1981) was an American Thoroughbred champion racehorse bred by Christopher Chenery's Meadow Stud. A bay filly by Bryan G., she was out of Satsuma; Satsuma's dam was Hildene, a "blue hen" mare (a prolific producer of quality offspring) and the first horse owned by Chenery (who later bred and owned Secretariat). Sired by the 1926 Kentucky Derby winner Bubbling Over, Hildene cost $600.
Cicada was trained by Casey Hayes, who also trained Hill Prince, First Landing, and Sir Gaylord. Hayes believed in starting his horses young, so Cicada first raced in February 1961 at Hialeah Park Race Track and won easily by 4½ lengths. She won one allowance race and lost one before being entered in her first stakes race. She lost the Fashion Stakes, but then won her third allowance easily. She won the Blue Hen Stakes wire-to-wire, winning by 5½ lengths. Cicada was never out of the money in her sixteen starts as a two-year-old. She won eleven of those races (six in a row) and set a new record for earnings by a filly.

The upbeat "Flapping Wings" features the crystal-esque sound of the piano and high soaring sounds of the string instruments mimicking a flock of birds flying across scattered clouds. The continuous and tender melody of the string instruments in "Close to Wetland" embodies the softness of Cheng Long Wetlands in Yunlin County. In " Withered Reflection", the western coastal view in Taiwan is musically depicted with a gentle touch, while the next song, " Blooms in Dark", is overwhelmed with despair and sadness. The music carrying such complex emotions builds up and paints the silhouette of Mailiao, Yunlin County. It allows listeners to catch a glimpse of hope as the song proceeds. Despite the melancholy composition in D minor, the last number "into the Ocean" sends encouraging energy by its strong and flowing rhythm. The bonus track "Over the Sea/Under the Water" was the first song of Cicada released in the first EP three years ago. It was inspired by environmental issues in Taiwan and became the starting point of Coastland. After the new violist joined the band, this track was re-arranged and re-recorded in the new album to remind their original intention.
The concept behind the music and the performance in Coastland are exquisite, profound, and grand ── fans of classical music, chamber music and independent music will all relate. A truly extraordinary conceptual album that will be on repeat by those of who devote their love to Taiwan.

The cicadas (/sɪˈkɑːdə/ or /sɪˈkeɪdə/), are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea, of insects in the order Hemiptera (true bugs).
