In interviews conducted at the Seminar for New Mission Leaders in Provo, Utah, in June 2023, the Church News asked several Latter-day Saint leaders about their hopes for the next generation of missionaries.

This is the generation of Latter-day Saint youth that will “lead this Church” and “lead the Lord's work” for the next 50 years, said Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and chairman of the Church’s Missionary Executive Council.

Sister Kathleen Johnson Eyring — the wife of President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023. She will be remembered for a life of serving others and strengthening her family.

Daily Repentance
Reflecting on the life and ministry of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Elder Kyle S. McKay, Church historian and recorder and a General Authority Seventy, spoke of the “marvelous Restoration.”
“One of the greatest messages of Joseph's life is his need and his desire to repent and be forgiven,” said Elder McKay. “And then we see it repeated over and over again throughout his life.”
This Church News video, titled “Daily Repentance,” features Elder McKay and Keith A. Erekson of the Church History Department talking about prophets and their reliance on the Savior, who leads The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On the evening of Sept. 21, 1823, the ancient prophet Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith, teaching him and revealing the nearby location of an ancient record written on gold plates — the Book of Mormon. Celebrating President Nelson at 99
On Sept. 9, 2023, President Nelson turns 99 years old. Russell Marion Nelson was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Salt Lake City, the son of Marion C. and Edna Anderson Nelson.
President Nelson was set apart as the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Jan. 14, 2018, after serving 34 years in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. In addition to his service as an Apostle, he is known for his long and esteemed medical career.
In this video, titled “Celebrating President Nelson at 99,” Church News celebrates President Nelson’s landmark birthday with a look back on his lifetime.

Partnering With The Savior
As Sister J. Anette Dennis, a member of the Relief Society general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reflects on her life, she can see the Savior’s watchful care and influence.
“The Savior is the ultimate source of relief,” she said during a Church News interview.
In this Church News video, titled “Partnering with the Savior,” Sister Dennis shares how the Savior stood beside her family as her daughter dealt with emotional and mental health challenges.
Sister Dennis said as her daughter looks back, she realized “the Savior was with me.”
“None of us are the Savior, but we can partner with Him in helping to save others and providing relief,” said Sister Dennis.

A Sacred Bridge
In July of 2018, President David Checketts and Sister Deb Checketts arrived in London to oversee the England London Mission and were invited to participate in an “Inspiring Service” hosted by the Rev. Dr. Andrew Teal of Oxford University and involving religious leaders from numerous faith traditions, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Checkettses asked if they could bring their missionaries to Pembroke chapel. Understanding grew as the Checkettses and their missionaries learned from Rev. Teal and he learned from them.
This Church News video, titled “A Sacred Bridge,” features their friendship.
“It was a pure gift from heaven to meet the Rev. Teal and then to meet his family,” said President Checketts. “We constantly refer to it as the miracle of our mission.”

In July of 2018, President David Checketts and Sister Deb Checketts arrived in London to oversee the England London Mission and were invited to participate in an “Inspiring Service” hosted by the Rev. Dr. Andrew Teal of Oxford University and involving religious leaders from numerous faith traditions, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Checkettses asked if they could bring their missionaries to Pembroke chapel. Understanding grew as the Checkettses and their missionaries learned from Rev. Teal and he learned from them.
This Church News video, titled “A Sacred Bridge,” features their friendship.
“It was a pure gift from heaven to meet the Rev. Teal and then to meet his family,” said President Checketts. “We constantly refer to it as the miracle of our mission.”
