Originally a kampung, the area has been rapidly developed under the ambition of the Housing and Development Board, to transform it into a modern township. The town comprises of seven subzones, four of which are the most densely populated, Choa Chu Kang Central, Choa Chu Kang North, Yew Tee and Teck Whye.
Etymology and history
Early history
Choa Chu Kang's name is derived from its historical core at the former site of Chua Chu Kang Village located near the junction of Choa Chu Kang Road and Jalan Sungei Poyan, currently occupied by the grounds of the National Shooting Centre which comes under the purview of Singapore Shooting Association. The name began to be applied to the general area around the village when Choa Chu Kang Road, a main arterial road linking the village to Upper Bukit Timah Road towards the east was built.
Choa Chu Kang MRT/LRT Station (NS4/BP1) is an interchangestation serving the Choa Chu Kang area of Singapore. It is part of the North South Line and the terminus for the Bukit Panjang LRT Line. The station is accompanied by the Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange and the Lot One, which serves as a major shopping centre for residents living in Choa Chu Kang. It is located in the southern and central part of Choa Chu Kang, on the northwest side of Singapore. The station mainly serves the town centre and the surrounding residential estates.
Currently, the station's LRT platform is the only station along the Bukit Panjang LRT which uses island platform. In the future, when the two additional platforms are completed, the platforms configuration would be of the Spanish solution.
History
The MRT station was opened on 10 March 1990 and was the terminus of the Branch Line. Construction began on 15 February 1986, and over the time there is no change to the station name. With the opening of the North South Line Woodlands Extension on 10 February 1996, the branch line was incorporated into the North South Line. Terminating facilities for Marina Bay-bound trains are still present. The LRT station opened on 6 November 1999, on the opening day of the Bukit Panjang LRT line. The station was third one to have an Xchange after those in the underground Dhoby Ghaut and Raffles Place, making the station the first to have an Xchange above-ground and in a residential neighborhood. Automatic platform gates were installed since 26 August 2011 on the North South Line platforms and commenced operation on 21 October 2011.

Choa Chu Kang MRT/LRT Station || Toshiba Elevator (LRT Platform)
Recorded on 13 August 2021. [VIDEO #700] This is my 700TH VIDEO on my 2nd channel! Finally after 3 years, I managed to re-record Toshiba double-sided lift at NS4/BP1 Choa Chu Kang - LRT Platform! Only got 1 lift.
Unfortunately, LRT only have 1 lift to access between Platform and Concourse levels at NS4/BP1 Choa Chu Kang (LRT Section). Platforms 3 & 4 don't have lifts built due to space constraints, which is a sad thing. It's normally very very crowded to be honest - hard to be alone.
Any disabled people/baby pram who need to transfer to MRT needs to take Lift 1 from Bukit Panjang LRT, then tap out, then tap in again to take MRT Lift at NS1/EW24 Jurong East.
