The Chetnik Detachments of the Yugoslav Army, commonly known as the Chetniks (Serbo-Croatian:Četnici, Четници, pronounced[tʃɛ̂tniːtsi]; Slovene:Četniki), was a World War II movement in Yugoslavia led by Draža Mihailović, an anti-Axis movement in their long-range goals and engaged in marginal resistance activities for limited periods. They also engaged in tactical or selective collaboration with the occupying forces for almost all of the war. The Mihailović Chetniks were not a homogeneous movement. The Chetnik movement adopted a policy of collaboration with regard to the Axis, and engaged in cooperation to one degree or another by establishing modus vivendi or operating as "legalised" auxiliary forces under Axis control. Over a period of time, and in different parts of the country, the Chetnik movement was progressively drawn into collaboration agreements: first with the Nedić forces in the Territory of the Military Commander in Serbia, then with the Italians in occupied Dalmatia and Montenegro, with some of the Ustaše forces in northern Bosnia, and after the Italian capitulation also with the Germans directly.
It was originally titled The Seventh Column and was directed by Louis King based on a story by Jack Andrews, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The film was produced by Sol M. Wurtzel and Bryan Foy. The film was announced in Boxoffice magazine in the May 30, 1942 issue: "'The Seventh Column,' a story based on exploits of General Draža Mihailović, Yugoslav guerilla leader." The movie appears in the American Film Institute (AFI) catalogue for American feature films made between 1941–1950.
The movie was advertised in an original print ad as follows:
Plot
In the opening scene, German troops and tanks are shown invading the Kingdom of Yugoslavia while bombers attack the capital Belgrade. When the Germans, Italians, Hungarians, and Bulgarians invade Yugoslavia on 6 April 1941, Serbian army colonel Draža Mihailović forms a band of guerrillas known as the Chetniks, who launch a resistance movement against the Axis occupation. Mihailović's forces then engage in an attack on the German and Italian forces, forcing them to employ seven Axis divisions against them.

The Chetniks of WW2 Yugoslavia - Resistance or Axis Collaborators?
Were the Chetniks Axis collaborators? Or did they resist the Axis during WW2? Time to explore this debate by exploring the situation in Yugoslavia during the war, and examining the Yugoslavian resistance, with a focus on Mihailović's Chetniks. We can compare them to other Chetnik movements as well as to Tito's Communist 'Partisans' and see if we can figure out what the historical truth really is.

The three infamous movements were the yugoslav Partisans, the serbian Chetniks and the croatian Ustase. In the following material, we will analyze and compare the actions, involvement and collaboration of the Ustase and the Chetniks - two ideologically related, yet inherently opposed ultranationalist movements, whose legacy continues up to this day, with many admirers and followers in modern day Serbia and Croatia. - with the communist Partisans as their common enemy.
The partisans, their origins, actions and involvement will be discussed in a separate video, as they are ideologically distinct from the aforementioned ethnonationalist movements and dont have the same fog of ideological and practical ambiguity which surrounds the Chetniks and the Ustase, who, in modern day discussions, often get compared for their atrocities.
Yet how comparable are the actions of these two movements really? How much do they genuinely have in common. How much did they really cooperate and whose interests did they truly represent? These are the controversial questions we will be exploring in the following minutes - so keep an open mind and remember that I, as the author of this video, do not endorse or prefer either of these movements, despite my Serbian origins.
