I struggled with this pose for so long! Chaturanga was one of the poses I actually avoided🤫
It felt so uncomfortable that I’d just skip it, which is actually fine btw 😛 but this year I decided to get better at it and by practicing and falling on my chest (A LOT) I got more comfortable at it.
It takes a lot of practice so don’t get discouraged! Actually if I still try to do it more than 4-5 times a row I start feeling wobbly. This pose is INTENSE!
So keep practicing, put these tips into work and lower down on your knees whenever you need to 😙😚

Chaturanga Dandasana, also known as Low Pushup or Four-Limbed Staff Pose, is one of the most physically challenging yoga poses. As the posture that connects high plank and Upward Facing Dog, it’s a critical part of the flow that’s frequently practiced in class. Unlike a traditional pushup, this variation targets and engages the triceps muscles.

The rules are the same as regular chess except for these changes. For a refresher of those rules, check out this video. Replace bishops with elephants and the queen with a minister.
Elephants jump exactly 2 squares in any direction, leaping over any piece in the way. The minister moves and captures to any diagonally adjacent space. Pawns are not allowed their initial double step move option, therefore en passant is not allowed. Pawns must promote to a minister when reaching the far side of the board.
If a player is stalemated then they win.

This is one of the most practiced asanas in Ashtanga so understanding correct alignment will help you move through it safely and effectively. You’ll learn the traditional vinyasa cues as Jelena demonstrates how to find the correct distance between hands and feet and what to focus on within your body as you lower down toward the floor.
