Full Poem (English Translation):
Where the mind Is without fear
and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments
by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out
from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches
its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream
of reason has not lost its way
into the dreary desert sand
of dead habit;
Where the mind is
led forward by thee
Into ever-widening
thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom,
my Father,
let my country awake.

Rabindranath Tagore 1961 HD Remastered | Satyajit Ray | Documentary
Rabindranath Tagore is a 1961 Indian documentary film written and directed by Satyajit Ray about the life and works of noted Bengali author Rabindranath Tagore. Ray started working on the documentary in early 1958. Shot in black-and-white, the finished film was released during the birth centenary year of Rabindranath Tagore, who was born on 7 May 1861. Ray avoided the controversial aspects of Tagore's life in order to make it as an official portrait of the poet. Though Tagore was known as a poet, Ray did not use any of Tagore's poetry as he was not happy with the English translation and believed that "it would not make the right impression if recited" and people would not consider Tagore "a very great poet," based on those translations. Satyajit Ray has been reported to have said about the...

Full Poem (English Translation):
Where the mind Is without fear
and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments
by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out
from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches
its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream
of reason has not lost its way
into the dreary desert sand
of dead habit;
Where the mind is
led forward by thee
Into ever-widening
thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom,
my Father,
let my country awake.

নিজ হস্তে নির্দয় আঘাত করি, পিতঃ;

The characters of Tagore’s stories spring into life through the imagination and vision of acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Basu in ‘Tagore Stories’. Tagore Stories share with us the intricately etched characters created by the master himself and brought to the small screen by the visionary director of ‘Barfi’ and ‘Life in a Metro.’
Set in a politically volatile period, the stories are constantly shifting in the social world of the early twentieth century in undivided Bengal. The hub of new India, Calcutta is the melting pot where our protagonists are pouring in from their rural, social and cultural spaces to encourage this upcoming new world.
Basu retains Tagore’s style of narrative even in the visual medium and enhances words of his pages by bringing in talent that truly captures the essence of each his beloved characters. Unlike ordinary characters, these personalities pack a rebellious punch. They break the traditional paths and root themselves into our hopeful hearts. We fight alongside them as the break out from their socio-religious confines.
Tagore, the most articulate feminist of his times, saw his women as intelligent, adventurous, chance takers and almost always resisting the family and the social establishment. Tagore, thus, constantly makes his characters push boundaries, question authority, norms and customs and makes his characters intriguing and endearing too. The audience, in our times too, will find this world engaging as well as challenging; feel attached to their emotions, issues, drama and anxieties.
Basu delves deeper into this society in transition, with songs, music, cultural references and its newfound political and social manifestations, a little more than the actual described world within Tagore’s narratives. Tagore’s words and Basu’s vision have amalgamated into a show that transports you back in time to a world as complicated as this one but with far more to lose.

Poem Lyrics(English) :
I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times…
In life after life, in age after age, forever.
My spellbound heart has made and remade the necklace of songs,
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms,
In life after life, in age after age, forever.
Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, its age-old pain,
Its ancient tale of being apart or together.
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge,
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.
You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount.
At the heart of time, love of one for another.
We have played alongside millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell-
Old love but in shapes that renew and renew forever.
Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you
The love of all man’s days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life.
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –
And the songs of every poet past and forever.

Poem Lyrics(English) :

Satyajit Ray has been reported to have said about the documentary Rabindranath Tagore in his biography Satyajit Ray: The Inner Eye by W. Andrew Robinson that, "Ten or twelve minutes of it are among the most moving and powerful things that I have produced."

The characters of Tagore’s stories spring into life through the cinematic imagination of acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Basu in ‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’.
‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’ shares with us the intricately etched characters created by the master himself and brought onto the small screen by the visionary director of ‘Barfi’ and ‘Life in a Metro.’ Set in a politically volatile period, the stories are constantly shifting in the social world of the early twentieth century in undivided Bengal.
The hub of new India, Calcutta is the melting pot where our protagonists are pouring in from their rural, social and cultural spaces to encourage this upcoming new world. Tagore, the most articulate feminist of his times, saw his women as intelligent, adventurous, chance takers and almost always resisting the family and the social establishment. Unlike ordinary characters, these personalities pack a rebellious punch. They break the traditional paths and root themselves into our hopeful hearts. We fight alongside them as they break out from their socio-religious confines.
The audience, in our times too, will find this world engaging as well as challenging; feeling attached to their emotions, issues, drama and anxieties. Basu retains Tagore’s narrative style even in the visual medium and enhances the words of his pages by casting talent that truly captures the essence of each of his beloved characters. He delves deeper into this society in transition, with songs, music, cultural references and its newfound political and social expressions, a little more than the actual described world within Tagore’s narratives.
Tagore’s words and Basu’s vision have amalgamated into a show that transports you back in time to a world as complicated as this one but with far more appeal and beauty.

Rabindranath Tagore ~ Gitanjali
Rabindranath Tagore ~ Gitanjali
Internationally, Gitanjali (Bangla: গীতাঞ্জলি) is Tagore's best-known collection of poetry. Tagore was awarded the Noble Prize in 1913 for this book.

Gitanjali is a collection of 103 poems in English, largely translations by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. This volume became very famous in the West, and was widely translated into other languages. In England a slender volume was published in 1913, with an exhilarating preface by W. B. Yeats. In the same year, Rabindranath became the first non-European to win the Nobel prize. (summary by Hilara)'On many an idle day have I grieved over lost time. But it is never lost, my lord. Thou hast taken every moment of my life in thine own hands.Hidden in the heart of things thou art nourishing seeds into sprouts, buds into blossoms, and ripening flowers into fruitfulness.I was tired and sleeping on my idle bed and imagined all work had ceased. In the morning I woke up and found my garden full with wonders of flowers.' 81, Gitanjali

National Anthem in Rabindranath Tagore's Real Voice |

Aamar Rabindranath (আমার রবীন্দ্রনাথ ) | Ranjan bandyopadhyay & Rituparno Ghosh

Stories By Rabindranath Tagore - Chokher Bali Sneak Peek #2

Stories By Rabindranath Tagore shares with us the intricately etched characters created by the master himself and brought to the small screen by the visionary director of ‘Barfi’ and ‘Life in a Metro.’
Set in a politically volatile period, the stories are constantly shifting in the social world of the early twentieth century in undivided Bengal. The hub of new India, Calcutta is the melting pot where our protagonists are pouring in from their rural, social and cultural spaces to encourage this upcoming new world.

National Anthem in Rabindranath Tagore's Real Voice |

The characters of Tagore’s stories spring into life through the imagination and vision of acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Basu in ‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’.
