It is the largest and busiest station in Wales and one of the major stations of the British rail network, the eleventh busiest station in the United Kingdom outside London (29th busiest overall), based on 2009/10 total entries and exits.
Central station was opened on 3 August 1880. It had few passenger services, which ceased in 1940 due to wartime bombing, while the goods line ceased operation with the closure of the Royal Docks. With the redevelopment of the Docklands area in the 1980s and 1990s, the line was replaced in 1994 by the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) extension to Beckton.
No trace of Central station remains, although Beckton Park DLR station is currently situated on or very close to the site.
In general elections for the National Assembly for Wales, each voter has two votes. The first vote may be used to vote for a candidate to become the Assembly Member for the voter's constituency, elected by the first past the post system. The second vote may be used to vote for a regional closed party list of candidates. Additional member seats are allocated from the lists by the d'Hondt method, with constituency results being taken into account in the allocation.
1918-1950: The County Borough of Cardiff wards of Canton, Cathays, Central, and Riverside.
1983–2010: The City of Cardiff wards of Adamsdown, Cathays, Cyncoed, Pentwyn, Plasnewydd, and Roath.
2010–present: The Cardiff electoral divisions of Adamsdown, Cathays, Cyncoed, Pentwyn, Penylan, and Plasnewydd.
As its name suggests, Cardiff Central covers the central area of the City of Cardiff. It extends from the area around the Millennium Stadium in the south to Llanishen Golf Course in the north, taking in the City Centre and the University.
History
This was a Conservative-held three-way marginal constituency throughout the 1980s but since 1997 Labour and the Liberal Democrats have pushed the Conservative candidate into third place. The Liberal Democrats won the equivalent Welsh Assembly seat in 1999 and 2003 and also dominate the wards which make up the seat in elections to Cardiff Council.
A train station, railway station, railroad station, or depot (see below) is a railway facility where trains regularly stop to load or unload passengers or freight.
It generally consists of at least one track-side platform and a station building (depot) providing such ancillary services as ticket sales and waiting rooms. If a station is on a single-track line, it often has a passing loop to facilitate traffic movements. The smallest stations are most often referred to as "stops" or, in some parts of the world, as "halts" (flag stops).
Stations may be at ground level, underground, or elevated. Connections may be available to intersecting rail lines or other transport modes such as buses, trams or other rapid transit systems.
Terminology
In the United States, the most common term in contemporary usage is train station. Railway station and railroad station are less frequent; also, American usage makes a distinction between the terms railroad and railway.
In Britain and other Commonwealth countries, traditional usage favours railway station or simply station, even though train station, which is often perceived as an Americanism, is now about as common as railway station in writing; railroad station is not used, railroad being obsolete there. In British usage, the word station is commonly understood to mean a railway station unless otherwise qualified.

Trains at Cardiff Central, SWML - 2/9/19
Welcome to the latest episode of Big Trip!Today I am at Cardiff Central on the South Wales Main Line where services are seen by Transport for Wales, Great Western Railway and CrossCountry.
Cardiff Central was busy as expected with local trains flying around left, right and centre as well as the semi local and express routes popping in at frequent intervals. I'm amazed at how much this station hasn't changed in terms of design and but certainly has changed with some services and liveries too! The views are fantastic going towards Canton and nice curves going out towards Queen Street/Newport. This station is always fantastic to visit, I love it here as there's always something different and today was no exception. Highly recommended and for me, the best station in Wales!

Walking through the town where you live And I dream of another day Daylight failing over the railings Past your window As another dream in the railway station You're too late You're gonna have to wait all day now 'Cause no one else will help you Follow me to the seaside It's fine for a daydream They just let you down They just let you down Summer's gone incompletely You're no one, you can disappear If you don't try now If you don't try again On a sunny day I think It gets hard to remember They won't let you down They won't let you down They won't let you down Seen something you've done Far in a distance You're waiting and watching And don't think it's helping They won't let you down They won't let you down
