Organic Valley
Organic Valley (OV) is an independent cooperative of organic farmers based in La Farge, Wisconsin, United States near La Crosse, Wisconsin. Founded in 1988, it is the largest organic farmer-owned cooperative in the world with over 1,800 farmer-owners across the United States, Canada, and Australia. Organic Valley markets products its products in all 50 states and exports to 25 countries. In 2014, growing annual sales neared $1 billion.
Cooperative history
Organic Valley was founded in 1988 under the name CROPP (Coulee Region Organic Produce Pool) Cooperative. What began as a group of Wisconsin family farms selling their produce soon expanded into the production and local distribution of vegetables, and dairy products. The brand name "Organic Valley" was soon adopted, and the abbreviation "CROPP" was adjusted to Cooperative Regions of Organic Producer Pools. The original CROPP farms were located throughout southwest Wisconsin, primarily in the Kickapoo River Basin area near the cooperative's headquarters.

Carbon sequestration is the process involved in carbon capture and the long-term storage of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO
2). Carbon sequestration describes long-term storage of carbon dioxide or other forms of carbon to either mitigate or defer global warming and avoid dangerous climate change. It has been proposed as a way to slow the atmospheric and marine accumulation of greenhouse gases, which are released by burning fossil fuels.
Carbon dioxide is naturally captured from the atmosphere through biological, chemical, or physical processes. Artificial processes have been devised to produce similar effects, including large-scale, artificial capture and sequestration of industrially produced CO
2 using subsurface saline aquifers, reservoirs, ocean water, aging oil fields, or other carbon sinks.

Today, mankind’s collective activity deposits about 50 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. All of this carbon dioxide traps heat from the sun and warms the entire planet, creating new conditions that are changing life as we know it.
So scientists are suggesting Co2 extraction methods in an effort to become carbon neutral - a cycle in which we clean up as much carbon dioxide as we emit.
For the engineers who work on carbon removal at a large scale, the dream is to devise a closed-loop system in which the carbon released could be treated as a commodity or resource, rather than a waste product.
Now, a Canada-based company called Carbon Engineering is turning this dream into a reality, using cutting-edge carbon capture technology called "direct air capture" to clean the air.

Carbon dioxide capture and storage can be applied to emissions from large sources such as power stations, cement factories or oil refineries, by storing more CO2 than is produced the negative emissions will enable us to achieve net zero targets. The carbon dioxide, or CO2, is captured at the source then transported and permanently stored in geological formations deep underground.
At the British Geological Survey our research aims to make C02 storage a permanent , useful and cost-effective element of the energy transition. We study:
- The character and capacity of potential storage strata
- How stored CO2 might interact with surrounding rocks
- Technologies to demonstrate that storage is permanent
- Long term operation and closure of a site
- Social attitudes and community concerns.
Carbon dioxide capture and storage can help us to reduce our overall emissions to zero. We are committed to increasing our scientific understanding and addressing gaps in our knowledge to enable it to play a key role in the energy transition.

They're part of a vital, ingenious and evolving strategy to take carbon out of the sky and store it safely -- in trees, soils, the ocean, buildings, rocks and deep underground. Every carbon removal approach takes some combination of natural resources, human ingenuity and technology, says climate thinker Gabrielle Walker. If we get the mix right, we can clean up the environmental mess we've made, reverse the processes behind climate change and give nature a chance to heal. "What goes up must now come down," she says.

Today, mankind’s collective activity deposits about 50 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. All of this carbon dioxide traps heat from the sun and warms the entire planet, creating new conditions that are changing life as we know it.
So scientists are suggesting Co2 extraction methods in an effort to become carbon neutral - a cycle in which we clean up as much carbon dioxide as we emit.
For the engineers who work on carbon removal at a large scale, the dream is to devise a closed-loop system in which the carbon released could be treated as a commodity or resource, rather than a waste product.
Now, a Canada-based company called Carbon Engineering is turning this dream into a reality, using cutting-edge carbon capture technology called "direct air capture" to clean the air.

The success of the energy transition relies on a range of low-carbon technologies being adopted around the world. Carbon capture and storage is one of these low-carbon technologies.
Carbon dioxide capture and storage can be applied to emissions from large sources such as power stations, cement factories or oil refineries, by storing more CO2 than is produced the negative emissions will enable us to achieve net zero targets. The carbon dioxide, or CO2, is captured at the source then transported and permanently stored in geological formations deep underground.
At the British Geological Survey our research aims to make C02 storage a permanent , useful and cost-effective element of the energy transition. We study:
- The character and capacity of potential storage strata
- How stored CO2 might interact with surrounding rocks
- Technologies to demonstrate that storage is permanent
- Long term operation and closure of a site
- Social attitudes and community concerns.
Carbon dioxide capture and storage can help us to reduce our overall emissions to zero. We are committed to increasing our scientific understanding and addressing gaps in our knowledge to enable it to play a key role in the energy transition.

Organic Valley was founded in 1988 under the name CROPP (Coulee Region Organic Produce Pool) Cooperative. What began as a group of Wisconsin family farms selling their produce soon expanded into the production and local distribution of vegetables, and dairy products. The brand name "Organic Valley" was soon adopted, and the abbreviation "CROPP" was adjusted to Cooperative Regions of Organic Producer Pools. The original CROPP farms were located throughout southwest Wisconsin, primarily in the Kickapoo River Basin area near the cooperative's headquarters.
