Major "schools" of East Asian Buddhism include Pure Land Buddhism, Tiantai, Huayen, and Chan Buddhism (Zen). These are distinguished primarily on the basis of which sutras are considered most definitive (in contrast with the situation in Tibetan Buddhism, where the focus is on commentarial literature). Vajrayana Buddhism also exists in East Asian forms, such as Japan's Shingon sect.
East Asian sangha members generally follow the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya. The major exception is Japan, where monks (now called "priests" in English) received imperial permission to marry during the Meiji Restoration, and thus no longer follow any traditional monastic code.
East Asia or Eastern Asia is the easternsubregion of the Eurasian continent, which can be defined in either geographical or cultural terms. Geographically and geopolitically, it covers about 12,000,000km2 (4,600,000sqmi), or about 28% of the Asian continent, about 15% bigger than the area of Europe.
More than 1.5 billion people, about 38% of the population of Asia and 22% or over one fifth of all the people in the world, live in East Asia. Although the coastal and rivery areas of the region form one of the world's most populated places, the population in Mongolia and Western China, both landlocked areas, is very sparsely distributed, with Mongolia having the lowest population density of a sovereign state. The overall population density of the region is 133 inhabitants per square kilometre (340/sqmi), about three times the world average of 45/km2 (120/sqmi).
The album features "Shallow Sleep (Asai Nemuri)", a hit single released in July 1992. Nakajima wrote the song as a theme for Shin'ai Naru Mono e, a television drama that she made guest appearance as a doctor. Shin'ai Naru Mono e's themes songpeaked at #2 on the Japan's Oricon chart in summer of 1992, and thus became her first single. This song has sold more than a million copies.
Prior to the release of the album Shin'ai Naru Mono e, the songs "Two Boats" and "Haginohara" were already performed on Yakai, which are experimental theaters Nakajima has performed annually since 1989.
"Thread (Ito)" is a love song Nakajima dedicated to Zenji Nakayama, a later leader of Tenrikyo who got married at that time. In 1998, it was featured on the television dramaSeija no Koushin and was also released as a double A-Side single with "Another Name for Life". This song has become well-known through a cover version recorded by the Bank Band, a project which Kazutoshi Sakurai and Takeshi Kobayashi launched for a charity. Their interpretation, featuring Sakurai's vocals, was included on their 2004 Soushi Souai album.

India, the land with a rich and glorious past that is over 5000 years old, has been the convergence point of the world for several years. ‘Vasudhiva Kutumbakam’ is the essential spirit of India; we believe every human being on this earth is our family. Spreading its message of peace, salvation, harmony and a higher path to live life, India has shared its numerous gifts of culture, philosophy and religion with the world since time immemorial.
This is the place where three of the world’s oldest religions were born. Through the centuries, Inia has been a source of inspiration for art, architecture, religion and socio-cultural norms in countries belonging to the present day ASEAN—as well as other East Asian countries. Since the ancient times, Indian sailors, led by adventurous kings and nifty traders, scouted the high seas even before recorded history, building bondages with South East Asian nations like Thailand and Myanmar, advancing up and around the Malaysian islands, Java, Sumatra, Bali, Laos, Cambodia– building vibrant trade posts, sharing culture, learning from the people and learning with the people there.
Buddhism spread to these lands through these routes, through direct contact or through texts and cultural practices—and were imbibed and nurtured by the kings and populace through generations and over vast periods of time. Today, as a firmly institutionalized religion in many of the ASEAN countries, Buddhism is an important element of India’s multi- lateral and bilateral relations with these countries.
Our film is an attempt to follow the journey of Buddhism to the ASEAN and East Asian countries, tracing the common elements of Buddhist culture and religion that still ties India firmly to these countries. The film would highlight and utilize these deep cultural links for promoting India-ASEAN partnership and improving and expanding India’s positive image in these countries.
