Translation of the song Daido:
"With this chestnut horse, I'll ride to my heart's desire, Tomorrow I'll visit my sweet mother. If I go tomorrow and my sweet mother is not there, With whom shall I pour out my heart's sorrows?
Father is good and mother is dear, Brother is the sweetest fruit on earth.
Raise your head from this soil, Father, I am full of loneliness, comfort me, Father. My soul is weary from the feeling of strangeness and loneliness, Our next meeting will be on the Day of Judgment.
It was the time of sunset and evening prayer when a stranger crossed my path, His loneliness devastated me and reminded me of my homeland. I don't know if the devastation of my heart was for my mother or my brother. I became a recluse and my own companion.
The sun is warm and it's midday, dear God, I have no one to sew my shroud. I wish my shroud were sewn from plain cloth, and my young brother stood over my body.
My young brother stood over my head, and threw two or three shovels of earth on me. My young brother stood over my head, and threw two or three shovels of earth on me.
The path to my homeland is full of thorns, Seeing my mother has become grief and pain. I wish I were spring grass so I could turn green, I wish I had never left my mother and taken care of her.
If I can get out of this short valley, I will offer sacrifice and alms to my mother. On that day when God wills and arrives, That I may come to her with a smile on my face.
Oh vagabond, Oh unfaithful one, My soul, Oh vagabond, Unfaithful one..."

1:04:26 - "October" - Composed by Mehdi Aminian
"Quieter than Silence” is a project of the Roots Revival Cultural Association based in Vienna.
"What is this metaphor we call silence? In our music, silence does not want to abstain from utterance. On the contrary, it wants to render the intentional or imposed state of muteness on the way to universal consciousness and to sublime awareness. This music intends to create a space beyond silence (“Quieter than silence”), of the complete dissolution of speech. Speech that has been emptied of meaning in an ever noisier and aggressive world. A world where less than ever is being done to revive the human dignity trampled under never ending consumerism, wars, conflicts, nationalism and their consequences. This is an era where words and communication have lost their primary function.
This project makes the symbolic journey of returning to nothingness, a tabula rasa of existence in order to invest sounds with a new creative power, worthy of dialogue.
“Quieter than Silence” is rooted in Persian, Syrian and Sufi music cultures, applying various rhythmical and timbral elements throughout the process, which makes it a unique artistic repertoire hard to attribute it to particular geographical identity.
"Quieter than Silence” is a dedication to the wandering Syrians in distress and grief. It is a form of compassion and a protest against all the noise in the world."

"The Woven Sounds music project is inspired by the intangible cultural heritage surrounding carpet weaving in Iran. It represents a natural symbiosis of research, film, and music performance. The creation process felt like returning home...
This was made possible by Michael Dreyer who shared the initial idea, the great team of Morgenland Festival Osnabrück, and by Ioana Aminian's essential support. Woven Sounds evolved through constant artistic dialogue with the weaver/singer Maryam Abtahi who sang for the first time in public and on stage, and all the other musicians.
This project is dedicated to all the overshadowed and invisible women and their struggles in my country..."

Translation of the poems:
1. "Lullaby from Isfahan" - 00:12
I weave the intricate Kashan Carpet, My fingers bleed, but I persist.
For I am a weaver through and through, Without weaving, no blankets for my nights anew.
2. "Song of Partridge" - 17:15
I am a partridge, hunt me down! Return me to the mountains
In the middle of the night, put me on your chest
During the days, put me in chains
I long for the beloved's return, so my days return to the past joyful days
O, vast expanse, I long to rest my head upon your breast
The rain never ends the thirst of the earth, how can my thirst for your love be ended?
I long for the beloved's return, so my days return to the past joyful days.
3. "Gal ay Gal (Come o come)" - 21:32
The partridge is sitting on the rock, come, my beloved, come!
I went and saw she is filling up the waterskin. Come, my beloved, come!
She was filling up light instead of water, come my beloved come!
In the desert, there is a well. The water is sweeter than sugar, come, my beloved, come!
4. "Naqshe Khani (Pattern Singing)" - 53:08
We have all white in the margine! - I hit!
Between them there is Senjedi (kind of green)! - I hit!
Leave one till the next! - I hit!
First one becomes Nokhodi (Kind of khaki)! - I hit!
One is left to Bidmeshki (kind of Brown)! - I hit!
We have a white going forward! - I hit!
Between them there is Senjedi (kind of green)! - I hit!
5. "Loom of life" - a poem by Mehdi Aminian - 01:04:00
How have you nurtured my face in this form, o beloved?
Where have you woven the warp and weft of my existence?
My life and soul are an allegory for this warp and weft.
My scheme and patterns come from you, the being of the universe
As you name my warp and weft, my fate inevitability
o without you, I would be suspended in wistful longing even if I own the seven heavens
Every knot and loop I tie on this body and soul,
the choice is mine when I thread the patterns of my beloved’s face
In this loom of life, each knot that I place,
your thoughts and memories with each breath would place a knot on my being.

About Badakhshani music:
"The music of the Badakhshan region of Afghanistan displays unique repertoires that differ from other regions in Afghanistan and other Central Asian musical styles. It includes spiritual songs, the madah, a religious performance in the form of sung praise of Sufi poetry that often lasts for hours, and bazmi, folk songs based on oral traditions. Characteristic of Badakhshan music is the use of a unique scale and diverse rhythms (Benze, Rastau, Rahpai, Petrajag). Songs like Spek Bazai, Bapirak Bazai, Chamcha Dance, Dergilak, Flak-Khani, Lehlik, Madah-Khani, Shah Mubarak and Ser Tarashan are typical of the region. The vocals are characterized by a clear, smoky and nasal-sounding tone, which plays an important role in genres such as the Falak Sober dirges, which can be performed either a cappella with free rhythms or with instruments in a regular beat. Traditional instruments in Badakhshan music include the Ghijak pointed violin, the Daf frame drum, the Ney end flute, and local variations of the rubab and tanbur."

Traditional instruments in Badakhshan music include the Ghijak pointed violin, the Daf frame drum, the Ney end flute, and local variations of the rubab and tanbur."

Music from Herat:
The city of Herat in western Afghanistan is known for its rich cultural and musical heritage. Herati music has deep roots in Afghan and Persian musical traditions, combining elements of both, as well as the musical traditions of ethnic groups such as the Pashtun, Tajik, and Hazara. It has a unique character, characterized by melodic complexity, artful rhythms, and poetic lyrics. Commonly used instruments in Herati music include the rubab, the tabla, the harmonium, and sometimes the sarod. In Herati music, oral folk songs or poems are referred to as "chaharbaiti" or quatrains and "dubaiti" or couplets. These lyrical compositions possess a unique rhythmic quality that allows free expression. They are sung in Dari, the official language of Afghanistan.
About the project:
A significant change has taken place in the Afghan cultural scene since the Taliban returned to Afghanistan. Making music is forbidden and has even become life-threatening in a country that boasts an extraordinary musical culture. The world is witnessing yet another mass exodus of Afghans. Today, Afghan musicians are only allowed to play in exile. After the first year of regime change, most waves of international support and empathy for Afghanistan have subsided. The challenges in the lives of Afghans and Afghan artists have increased enormously, both inside and outside the country. With the project "Roots Revival Series: Afghanistan," we want to draw attention to the diversity and richness of Afghan music and thereby support some of the Afghan musicians.

ROOTS REVIVAL ROMANIA, FULL CONCERT , Oct 2014,
The two albums Maramures and Colors of Maria is available in Carturesti libraries..
The concept of Roots Revival was initiated by Mehdi Aminian and he is currently developing the new chapters of this project.
In Roots Revival after an intensive research musicians are chosen representing different cultures to meet each other for the first time and have a defined period to work on a given topic.
Roots Revival aims to provide the platform for young professional musicians with authentic musical heritage in contemporary forms to exchange, experiment and live with others cultures. Based on the ongoing research Roots Revival studies musics of different regions on the globe to find both themes and the right musicians. This creates a platform on which each musician shines both as representative of an individual culture and as part of building the bridge between all the other musical cultures on this project.
This concert as the second chapter of Roots Revival is inspired by Maria Tanase the legendary Romanian Singer.
Besides Maria Tanase's reinterpretations, all musicians invited to Roots Revival have their moments and arrangements.
