That mission to bring styles together, complemented by Hill’s absolute mastery of his instrument, is a through line connecting his many achievements. It can be heard on his latest album, Modern Flows Vol. II, with its seamless blend of jazz interplay, hip-hop-infused rhythms and socially conscious spoken-word. It’s integral to The Way We Play, his Concord Jazz debut from 2016, where Hill and his musicians reinvent jazz standards using their generation’s wide-ranging influences. It marks the four records Hill self-released before November of 2014, when he won the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz competition and became a presence on the global scene virtually overnight. And it defines the revelatory live dates by Hill’s longtime working group, the Blacktet, which the Chicago Tribune called “a remarkably polished, immensely attractive ensemble.”
For Hill, playing and listening without limits has long been an instinct. “It comes naturally; that’s the way I hear the music,” he says. “I came up in a household where my mom played Motown, R&B, Isley Brothers, Barry White, Marvin Gaye. Then I received my first jazz record, by Lee Morgan, and that was added to the collection ... I truly believe that the music is all the same.”
Born in Chicago in 1987 and raised on the city’s culturally rich South Side, Hill began playing drums at age four, before switching to trumpet in the sixth grade. He attended high school at Kenwood Academy, excelling in its revered jazz-performance program, and was mentored by Bobby Broom, Willie Pickens, Tito Carrillo and other Chicago greats through the Ravinia Jazz Scholars program. Hill earned his bachelor’s in music education from Northern Illinois University and his master’s in jazz pedagogy from DePaul University. During college he made gigs and sessions around Chicago, jamming with and absorbing wisdom from the likes of Fred Anderson, Ernest Dawkins and Von Freeman. Even then, Hill was known in town as a stunningly gifted trumpeter with a soulful, highly textured tone. His sound is now somehow both deeply distinctive and a tour through jazz-trumpet history, evoking the high-drama stillness and space of Miles; the undeniable virtuosity of Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard; the groove—savvy phrasing of Lee Morgan and Donald Byrd; and much more.
Well before Hill won the Monk prize — arguably the most important jazz competition in the world — his reputation for brilliance was firmly established in the Midwest, as a member of the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, an in-demand sideman and a bandleader. He also developed into a precocious, determined young label owner, and has released five acclaimed discs — New Gospel, Sounds of the City, The Poet and Modern Flows Vols. I and II — through his Black Unlimited Music Group imprint. “Just having my personality, there’s nothing like being in control of what you produce and put out into the world,” he says. “It’s a great feeling.”
A move to New York in 2014 helped him gain wider exposure and new opportunities—though he frequently returns to his hometown for gigs and projects — and in recent years Hill has garnered an enviable spate of press. Previewing a Blacktet show, The New Yorker said, “His performances and recordings reveal a smart post-bop player who circumvents genre clichés by incorporating elements of hip-hop and contemporary R. & B.” Of The Way We Play, DownBeat wrote, “The groove-laden arrangements provide the perfect soundscape for Hill’s fluid improvisational style, which, with its glass-like lucidity, recalls the crisp elegance of hard-bop stalwart Donald Byrd.” In 2016, Hill earned first place in the “Rising Star–Trumpet” category in that magazine’s storied Critics Poll. Throughout his journey, he has supported and guested with a who’s who of jazz that includes Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Boney James, Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano, and Hill’s trailblazing Chicago peer, Makaya McCraven.
Today, Hill maintains a nonstop touring schedule with the Blacktet, and the intensely interactive, utterly unique band has become a kind of graduate school for next-level talent — Hill included. “One of the most beautiful things about leading a group is the flow of knowledge and energy that we bounce off of one another,” he says. “Each member contributing their distinctive voice is what truly makes the music and magic happen.”

Most Dangerous Ways To School - Bolivia
Most Dangerous Ways To School - Vietnam: https://youtu.be/W10KhZWOz6I
The Yungas Valley in Bolivia: a unique landscape, where the Andes Mountains meet the Amazon Rain Forest. In this remote section of one of the poorest countries in South America, children have a very long and incredible dangerous walk to school ahead of them. All for one goal: education – for a better life.
Seven-year-old Elmer wants to become an engineer and to build his own house, far away from the remote village. But his only way to school leads over a ravine more than 650 feet deep and about 1000 feet long: a kind of homemade zip-line. He has to entrust his live on a rusty iron pulley and a worn plastic bag.
On the other side of the valley, on the summit of the mountain ra...

Somewhere on Earth - Chile: https://youtu.be/CzLYSWGGLmY
Bolivia is the heart of the South American continent, a land of volcanoes and tropical jungles, where the sounds, the aromas and the colors are in harmony with a people descended from the Ancient Incas. With its rugged, dusty hues…. it’s also the land of colorful lakes, in the midst of the Andes mountains.
Erwann Guégan, a Frenchman who’s been living in Bolivia for 2 years. In Maipiri, a little village on the edge of the Amazon Basin, Erwann has been working on a project here that he is quite committed to the construction of a landing strip to open up the region and thus allow medical evacuations. For now, there’s no train or plane to access the valleys of the Yungas region, only a s...

Bolivia – Welcome to the “Rooftop of the World” where you can experience breathtaking landscapes, ancient civilizations and colorful wildlife. Check out the best things to see and do in Bolivia.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Bolivia: https://www.expedia.com/Bolivia.d21.Destination-Travel-Guides
A #vacation to #Bolivia, a landlocked South American country, holds the promise of discovery for adventurous souls. While pretty Sucre is Bolivia’s judicial capital, La Paz is its political capital and also its main tourist hub.
Journey high to the Mirador Laikacota for city views. Deep in the valley below #visit the central Plaza Murillo, home to the most precious buildings: the Presidential Palace, National Congress and Metropolitan Cathedral. Stay near the Plaza San Francisco for its proximity to hidden gems, such as the curious Witches’ Market, the Musical Instrument Museum and the Coca Museum.
Bolivia is a diamond in the rough; relatively undeveloped, but extremely authentic, colorful and cultural. Bolivia’s riches shine through in the country’s high altiplanos, its floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca, the silver mines of Potosi, the infinite salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni and the untamed tropical lowlands in the vast Amazon basin.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

THIS ADVENTURE MADE POSSIBLE BY: Kuoda Travel
http://bit.ly/kuodatravel /// The Bolivian Salt Flats in Uyuni, Bolivia are one of the most beautiful and unique places we've ever been! They are the biggest in the world (10,000 square kilometers of salt!). We drove 70 miles in the middle of the flats and had a gourmet picnic, and then hiked on an island that has formed on top of the flats. We ended the day with a gorgeous sunset and settled in our salt hotel for the night!

que nació en el corazón del Salvador;
su pueblo unido, que proclame de su amor
hasta el último rincón, es la misión
Cara a cara espero verle
cuando venga en gloria y luz
cara a cara allá en el cielo
he de ver a mi Jesús
Y por fin:
ver el rostro de quién quiso
nuestras almas redimir

On the other side of the valley, on the summit of the mountain range, is where the sisters Helen and Mariela live. Isolated, and in the heart of the jungle. Of all the children who attend the school, the sisters live furthest away. Fear, hunger, and exhaustion are their constant companions. For them, education the key to a new, better world. And that’s why they run great risks every day in pursuit of it.
All this is more than just a walk to school – It is a test in the vast jungle. Throughout this journey they all have only one goal in mind: to ultimately find a job in a city and lead a better life.

For now, there’s no train or plane to access the valleys of the Yungas region, only a steep, twisting road and collective taxis crammed to the limit by their drivers.
Photography and archeology are Gabriela Escobar’s two passions in life. She quite naturally brought them together in one vast project: she travels the length and breadth of Bolivia to photograph every archeological site in the country, thus building up an inestimable data base for historians the world over. During her travels, she recaptures the poetry of the books that used to make her dream in her childhood.
The brothers Miguel and Diego Morales have set up a little company that organizes paragliding flights and mountain treks. Not long ago Miguel had a serious paragliding accident. When he got out of the hospital it was his brother Diego who encouraged him to start flying again. For Miguel’s comeback flight they gave themselves a challenge: to fly over the Salar de Uyuni, the vast salt flat in the far south west of the country. What is it they’re hoping to share together? Tons of dust, encounters and adventures in the country’s high altitude deserts.
