The Blue Line was previously called the East-West Line until MARTA switched to a color-based naming system in October 2009. The East-West Line, from its launch, was considered one line (denoted with the Blue Line color on old system maps) until 2006 when the West branch and the Proctor Creek branch were redesignated as the East-West Line (the current Blue Line) and the Proctor Creek Line (the current Green Line).
The rail line was part of the initial launch of MARTA rail service in 1979. The first segment ran from the East Line segment from Georgia State to the Avondale stations upon the opening in June of that year. By the end of 1979, it extended west to the Hightower station (now Hamilton E. Holmes) on the West Line segment, which serves as that station's terminus. Although the North-South line was expanded throughout the 1980s, the East-West line did not see any extension since its opening until 1992 when the Proctor Creek branch of the line opened to its terminus at Bankhead station. It finally extended to its current eastern terminus at Indian Creek in September 1993.
An ice hockey rink is an ice rink that is specifically designed for ice hockey, a team sport. Alternatively it is used for other sports such as broomball, ringette and rink bandy. It is rectangular with rounded corners and surrounded by a wall approximately 1 meter (40-48 inches) high called the boards.
Name origins
Rink, a Scots word meaning 'course', was used as the name of a place where another game, curling, was played. Early in its history, ice hockey was played mostly on rinks constructed for curling. The name was retained after hockey-specific facilities were built.
Dimensions
There are two standard sizes for hockey rinks: one used primarily in North America, the other used in the rest of the world.
International
Hockey rinks in most of the world follow the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) specifications, which is 61 metres (200ft)×30.5 metres (100ft) with a corner radius of 8.5 metres (28ft). The distance from the end boards to the nearest goal line is 4 metres (13ft). The distance from each goal line to the nearest blue line is 17.3 metres (57ft). The distance between the two blue lines is also 17.3 metres (57ft).
The Blue Line is a 15.4-mile (24.8km)light rail line in the San Diego Trolley system, operated by San Diego Trolley, Inc., an operating division of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). It currently operates between Downtown San Diego and San Ysidro, at the border with Mexico. The Blue Line has the highest ridership of the San Diego Trolley's three regular lines, transporting 15,094,878 riders during FY 2014, according to the MTS.
The line is one of four lines in the Trolley system, the others include the Green; Orange, and Silver lines.
History
The initial line in the San Diego Trolley system, the Blue Line first opened between Centre City San Diego and San Ysidro on July 26, 1981, at a spartan cost of $86million, using the existing tracks of the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway. In 1986, the line was named the South Line to differentiate it from the new East Line to Euclid Avenue. On July 2, 1992, the line was extended north from downtown with the opening of the County Center/Little Italy stop. It was renamed the North-South Line when the Old Town extension opened on June 16, 1996. The North-South Line was renamed the Blue Line in 1997, with the opening of the extension to Mission San Diego on November 23, 1997.
The San Diego Trolley(reporting markSDTI) is a light rail system operating in the metropolitan area of San Diego. It is known colloquially as The Trolley. The Trolley's operator, San Diego Trolley, Inc. (SDTI), is a subsidiary of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). The Trolley began service on July 26, 1981, making it the oldest of the "second generation" light rail systems in the United States. The entire Trolley network serves 53 stations, and comprises 53.5 miles (86.1km) of route, and three primary lines named the Blue Line, the Orange Line, and the Green Line, as well as a supplementary heritage streetcar downtown circulator known as the Silver Line that operates on select weekdays, weekends and holidays. In Q4 2014, the Trolley was the 4th most-ridden light rail system in the United States, with an average of 119,800 riders per weekday.
The San Diego Trolley is operated by MTS, which is one of the oldest transit systems in Southern California dating back to the 1880s. Although its operating names have changed over the years, the two modes of transportation, buses and trolleys, have remained consistent over the past 125 years.
The Marta is an Italian river that flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its source is Lake Bolsena near Marta. It flows past Tuscania and is joined by a tributary that flows from the Cimini Hills. It then flows past Tarquinia and enters the Tyrrhenian Sea near Lido di Tarquinia.
Marta is a female given name derived from the Hebrew (Judæo-Aramaic) name מַרְתָּאMartâ "The lady". It had the male form "Martinus" in Roman culture. It has been described as a cognate of Martha.
The name Marta should not be confused with the similar-looking Swedish name Märta, which derives from the Greek name Margaret and means "pearl".

Upon completion of the extension, the Blue Line was extended from the downtown America Plaza Station, following the same route as the Green Line north from the Santa Fe Depot to the Old Town Station, before then deviating onto its own route north to La Jolla. As with my ‘Green Line’ and ‘Orange Line’ videos, I opted to film out the rear of the trolley as it would give me a full view of the tracks while not bothering the operator in any manner. The trolley I rode on during this particular trip was comprised of a streetcar length Siemens S700 set.

San Diego's biggest expansion of public transit in more than 15 years is now up and running. The Blue Line trolley now offers a one-seat ride from the border to UCSD and University City. KPBS metro reporter Andrew Bowen examines the impact that extension could have — and the work that's still left to do.
Years in the making, the start of MTS trolley service to UC San Diego and the surrounding area will transform how our faculty, staff and students live, learn and play.

On Sunday, November 21st, 2021, the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System opened to the public their newly completed extension of their trolley’s Blue Line to the La Jolla / UC (University of California) San Diego area. This extension is known as SANDAG’s (San Diego Association of Governments) Mid-Coast Trolley Project, which pushed to connect the La Jolla / UC San Diego area with the other metropolitan areas of San Diego by means of extending the existing light rail system from the Old Town Station alongside Mission Bay up through Rose Canyon along existing, but also newly acquired right-of-ways. Originally, the Blue Line was the very first line that opened when the trolley service was first established; and it serves communities between the United States and Mexico border from Downtown San Diego to San Ysidro, including National City, Chula Vista, Otay Mesa, and other neighboring communities.
