Black Hearts in Battersea is a children's novel by Joan Aiken first published in 1964. The second book in the Wolves Chronicles, it is loosely a sequel to her earlier Wolves of Willoughby Chase. The book is set in a slightly altered historical England—during the reign of King James III—in the early 19th century, and follows the adventures of Simon, an orphan whose plans to study painting in London are derailed by high adventure. Aiken was inspired to create an atmosphere of important events having already transpired offstage (which was helped by the fact that a great deal of the beginning had to be left out due to length), and also included an involved "Dickensian plot" which she believed to complement the habit many children have of rereading or having a book reread to them.
TV adaptation
In 1995, the book was adapted by James Andrew Hall into a television series by James Andrew Hall, airing on BBC1 from 31 December 1995 to 11 February 1996.
"Black Hearts (On Fire)" is a song by Australian rock band Jet and is the second single taken from their third album Shaka Rock. Like She's a Genius which was the first single from the album, the song debuted at a secret show in Melbourne in November 2008 and was later included as a track on the album. The single was released on iTunes on 2 November.

Noted for the long-awaited bringing of the London Underground in the 21st century, two main railway lines cross here at what was the country's busiest station. In all directions along these lines are several of the borough's council estates which replaced some of the severely overcrowded housing serving its former Power Station, its locomotive, carriage and heavy industrial works, with interpretations and variants ranging from brutalist to spacious garden courtyards. Elsewhere in Battersea are a growing proportion of private architecturally-acclaimed riverside, parkside and typical London homes. In 2001, Battersea had a population of 75,651 people. Landmarks include New Covent Garden Market and the Royal Academy of Dance. Wandsworth Common and Clapham Common border parts of this large district, which traditionally also includes Nine Elms. Railway stations in Battersea are in fare zone 2.
1885-1918: No. 2 and No. 3 Wards of Battersea Parish, and that part of No. 4 Ward of Battersea Parish which is bounded on the south by Battersea Rise, and on the east by St John's Road.
1983-2010: The London Borough of Wandsworth wards of Balham, Fairfield, Latchmere, Northcote, Queenstown, St John, St Mary's Park, and Shaftesbury.
2010-present: The London Borough of Wandsworth wards of Balham, Fairfield, Latchmere, Northcote, Queenstown, St Mary’s Park, and Shaftesbury.
Less densely populated than late Victorian times and covering the north-eastern third of the London Borough of Wandsworth, Battersea in this context includes central Wandsworth and in the same way as Chelsea on the opposite bank, adjoins the Thames before flowing through central London.
It takes in all of the district of Battersea including its large Battersea Park which has played host in recent years to international circus productions, riverside and London Heliport and stretches eastwards to include Nine Elms and surrounding the Park: Queenstown; generally widely known large neighbourhoods of Battersea Town; and westwards to include most of Wandsworth town, including the riverside, Town Hall and East Hill. Battersea also stretches south between Wandsworth Common and Clapham Common to include Balham Ward, the eastern end of Balham (the west for General Elections is in Tooting).

Battersea Power Station: The History
Built in the 1930s, and designed by one of Britain’s best 20th century architects, Battersea Power Station is one of London’s most loved and recognisable landmarks.
Shortly after its completion and commissioning it was described by the Observer newspaper as ‘One of the finest sights in London’. The development that is now underway at Battersea Power Station will transform this great industrial monument into the centrepiece of London’s greatest destination development.

The 'forgotten' rollercoaster disaster of Battersea funfair
On 30 May 1972 the Big Dipper at Battersea Park in south-west London crashed, killing five children and injuring 13 others.
Almost 50 years later, survivors say the tragedy has been forgotten and are calling for a permanent memorial at the site of the ride.

Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of central London’s largest, most visionary and eagerly anticipated new developments, which will see this vast 42 acre former industrial brownfield site – which had been derelict for 30 years – become home to a community of homes, shops, cafes, offices and 18 acres of public space.
The £8bn project will see the creation of a vibrant, mixed-use development – and a new town centre for London. It will offer places to live, work, and shop as well as cultural and event spaces interspersed with community facilities, open space and the revitalisation of the Power Station itself. It will transform this waterfront site into an exciting, authentic and attractive new destination for residents and visitors alike around the clock. The Power Station is expected to be open to the public for the first time in over 30 years in 2019.
The Battersea Power Station site is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors comprising S P Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees’ Provident Fund. The development management of the project is being undertaken by British based, Battersea Power Station Development Company.

Battersea Power Station
Designed by Giles Gilbert Scott
Built in 1930s.
Largest brick building in Europe.
Wasn’t popular at the time as it was an eye-sore.
They had a fire in 1964 causing blackouts all over London.
(Remember power cuts in the 70s?)
Closed down in 1983 and remained empty until recent Malaysians bought it.
Turning it into flats, luxury sports venue, gym and restaurants.
Pink Floyd “Animals” album 1977
Inflatable pig drifted into Heathrow air space.
Police tracked it to Kent where it came down.
It was also used as Ministry of Love in 1984 with John Hurt. Also in Superman 3.
Battersea Dogs home
Opened in the 1860s as sanctuary for animals in need of help and doesn’t turn any away.
Holds over 260 dogs and cats.
1883 they accepted cats but only just changed its name in 2002 to avoid prejudice.
2011 they started Staffies (they’re softer than you think) campaign.
They even have a pet etiquette school to help dogs get used to a new life.
It housed 100 of Shackleton’s dogs before his disastrous trip to the South Pole.
Battersea Park
1858 - it was all marshland.
First place asparagus was grown in UK known as “Sparrow Grass".
Red House Tavern attracted ne-er do-wells and the area became notorious for brawls and duels. Access was from wooden Battersea bridge.
Duke of Wellington fought a duel with the Earl of Winchelsea for his Catholic emancipation act.
He was the last Prime Minister to fight a duel but he just shot into the air.
1st Association rules football match took place here 1864.
1985 Peace Pagoda commemorates Hiroshima donated by Bhuddist monks.
Albert Bridge
1873 - John Betcheman said it was one of the beauties of the London river.
Swayed when it opened so “all troops must break step when marching” Nicknamed “Trembling Lady".
Half suspension and half cantilever (Bazagette added suspension).
Same designer who did the rooves of the Albert Hall and St Pancras station.
Still has toll booths on it (only bridge that does).
Continues to deteriorate because of dogs doing their business on the timber decking.
1992 they made it more visible so painted it and added bulbs.
Features in Clockwork Orange and Absolute Beginners.
Battersea Square is a preety square near to St Thomas Battersea school where Prince George attends. Also Battersea Flower Station is nearby.

Full tour of Battersea Power station including a look at Battersea power station apartments from the outside and a preview of the inside of a 1-bedroom apartment. I take a look inside of Battersea Power station shopping centre which is home to a large Apple store, Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street restaurant, and lift 109 which is a lift taking you to the top of the Battersea power station in the North West tower giving you 360 views of London.
Battersea Power Station has various different apartments for sale and for rent. Some of the apartment blocks included Koa at Electric Boulevard, Bloom Nine Elms, Beechmore House, Pico House, Oakley House, Scott House, Faraday House and Dawson House. Even walking past the hotel called art'otel London Battersea.
Battersea Power Station is home to some great restaurants including Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street, and others.

When I make it, I'll be on time Gonna take what I want and give you a piece of my mind Your black hearts waited too long, Just to see me fall down, fall down, fall down Your black hearts won't be around, just to see me fall down Your hearts on fire, so come on, burn brighter Your hearts on fire, so come on, burn brighter Your hearts on fire, but your cold to the touch I know you want it but you love yourself too much Your hearts on fire but your head is a rut You best believe it, I ain't ever giving up When I make it, I'll be on time yeah Well you might say I'm crazy, but oh I'm out of my mind Well excuse me black hearts, will you tell me who is up and who is down? Are you waiting for me to fall down? Your hearts on fire, so come on, burn brighter Your hearts on fire, so come on, burn brighter Your hearts on fire, but your cold to the touch I know you want it but you love yourself too much Your hearts on fire but your head is a rut You best believe it, i ain't ever giving up So come on, come on, come on, hey yeah! Your hearts on fire, but your cold to the touch I know you want it but you love yourself too much Your hearts on fire but your head is a rut You best believe it, i ain't ever give'n' up
