Billy Jack is a 1971 action/drama independent film; the second of four films centering on a character of the same name which began with the movie The Born Losers (1967), played by Tom Laughlin, who directed and co-wrote the script. Filming began in Prescott, Arizona, in the fall of 1969, but the movie was not completed until 1971. American International Pictures pulled out, halting filming. 20th Century-Fox came forward and filming eventually resumed but when that studio refused to distribute the film, Warner Bros. stepped forward.
Still, the film lacked distribution, so Laughlin booked it in to theaters himself in 1971. The film died at the box office in its initial run, but eventually took in more than $40 million in its 1973 re-release, with distribution supervised by Laughlin.
Plot
Billy Jack is a "half-breed" American Navajo Indian, a Green BeretVietnam Warveteran, and a hapkido master. The character made his début in The Born Losers (1967), a "biker film" about a motorcycle gang terrorizing a California town. Billy Jack rises to the occasion to defeat the gang when defending a college student with evidence against them for gang rape.
Billy Jack Goes to Washington is a 1977 film starring Tom Laughlin, the fourth film in the Billy Jack series, and although the earlier films saw enormous success, this film did not. The film only had limited screenings upon its release and never saw a general theatrical release, but has since become widely available on DVD. The film is a loose remake of the 1939 Frank Capra film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
Plot
Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin) is appointed a United States Senator to fill out the remaining term of another Senator. It is hoped that he will quietly vote the party line, but his term in the Senate runs into trouble when he proposes a bill to fund a national youth camp which happens to be on the property where a nuclear power plant is also being proposed. His fellow Senator Joseph Paine (E. G. Marshall) claims to oppose nuclear power but is secretly taking graft to influence his votes in favor, and moves to try to keep Billy Jack out of the way when the bill is being debated.

Goes was founded in the 10th century on the edge of a creek: de Korte Gos (the Short Gos). The village grew fast, and in the early 12th century it had a market square and a church devoted to Mary Magdalene. In 1405 Goes received city rights from William, Duke of Bavaria, by his right as count of Holland, and in 1417 it was allowed to build town walls. The prosperity of the city was based upon the cloth industry and the production of salt. In the 16th century Goes declined. Its connection to the sea silted up and in 1554 a large fire destroyed part of the city.
In Autumn 1572, during the course of the Eighty Years' War, Goes, in the Spanish Netherlands, was besieged by Dutch forces with the support of English troops. The siege was relieved in October 1572 by Spanish Tercios, who waded across the Scheldt to attack the besieging forces. In 1577 the Spanish soldiers who occupied Goes were driven out by Prince Maurits of Nassau. The prince built a defence wall around Goes, which is still partly standing. From the 17th century Goes did not play an important role, except as an agricultural centre. In 1868 a railway was constructed through it, but this did not lead to industrialisation. Agriculture remains the most important economic activity.
GOES-L was launched aboard an International Launch ServicesAtlas IIA rocket, flying from Space Launch Complex 36A at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The launch occurred at 07:07 GMT on 3 May. The launch was originally scheduled for 15 March 1999, however it was delayed to allow the Eutelsat W3 satellite to be launched first. Following this, it was rescheduled for 15 May. On 30 April, the Centaur upper stage of a Titan IV(401)B failed during the launch of USA-143. Since a version of the Centaur was also used on the Atlas II, the launch of GOES-L was delayed a week to ensure that the same problem would not affect its launch. Less than five days after the Titan failure, a Delta III failed to launch Orion 3. The failure occurred during the second stage restart, and as the Delta III and Atlas II both used RL10 engines on their second stages, this resulted in a further delay.

Tom Laughlin was born on the 10th of August, 1931, in Milwaukee. He initially had aspirations of becoming a successful football player and did indeed play at the college level. However, his true passion for the performing arts led him down a different path.
Laughlin's breakthrough came in 1955 when he appeared in the film "The Delinquents." This marked the beginning of a prolific career that spanned over five decades. However, it was his portrayal of the iconic character Billy Jack that would cement his place in cinematic history.
In 1967, Laughlin wrote, produced, and starred in the groundbreaking film "Born Losers," introducing audiences to the character of Billy Jack, a Vietnam War veteran with a strong sense of justice. The film's unexpected success paved the way for three more Billy Jack films, with "Billy Jack" (1971), "The Trial of Billy Jack" (1974), and "Billy Jack Goes to Washington" (1977) captivating audiences and inspiring a generation.
Beyond his on-screen endeavors, Tom Laughlin was also a passionate advocate for social causes. He used his platform to address issues such as civil rights, Native American rights, and political corruption. His movies often tackled these themes head-on, making a profound impact on society.
In addition to his acting and activism, Laughlin dabbled in directing and screenwriting. He helmed several films, including "The Master Gunfighter" (1975) and "The Return of Billy Jack" (1986), further showcasing his talent and versatility.
Tom Laughlin's contributions to the entertainment industry earned him accolades and a dedicated fan base. His work transcended mere entertainment, reflecting the cultural zeitgeist of his time and leaving an enduring legacy.
