The Squaw Man - February 12, 1914
The Squaw Man (known as The White Man in the UK) is a 1914 silent western drama film starring Dustin Farnum and directed by Cecil B. DeMille and Oscar Apfel. It was DeMille's directorial debut.
Plot
James Wynnegate (Dustin Farnum) and his cousin, Henry (Monroe Salisbury), are upper class Englishmen and have been made trustees for an orphans’ fund. Henry loses money in a bet at a derby and embezzles money from “the fund” to pay off his debts. When war office officials are informed of the money missing from “the fund," they pursue James, but he successfully escapes to Wyoming. There, James rescues Nat-U-Ritch (Lillian St. Cyr), daughter to the chief of the Utes tribe, from local outlaw Cash Hawkins (William Elmer). Hawkins plans to exact his revenge on James, but has his plans thwarted by Nat-U-Ritch, who fatally shoots him. Later, James gets into an accident in the mountains and needs to be rescued. Nat-U-Ritch tracks him down and carries him back to safety. As she nurses him back to health, they fall in love and later have a child. Meanwhile, during an exploration of the Alps, Henry falls off a cliff. Before he succumbs to his injuries, Henry signs a letter of confession proclaiming James’ innocence in the embezzlement. Before Henry's widow, Lady Diana (Winifred Kingston), and others arrive in Wyoming to tell James about the news, the Sheriff recovers the murder weapon that was used against Cash Hawkins inside of James and Nat-U-Ritch's home. Realizing their son was not safe, the couple sends him away, leaving them both distraught. Facing the possibilities of losing both her son and her freedom, Nat-U-Ritch decides to take her own life instead. The movie ends with both the chief of the Utes tribe and James embracing her body.

LET'S HELP BUY GRAVESTONES FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT. Consider helping support this channel, because sadly, sometimes I come across a known grave location with no marker, and sometimes I have bought that person a gravestone. Your donations here can help offset some of these costs. We have some folks already helping to build a pot for this. Let's try to make some of those names forgotten - remembered.

THIS EPISODE:
Chicago-area residents woke up to a story that sounded like the plot line of their worst nightmare. Employees of Burr Oak Cemetery in suburban Alsip were accused of digging up bodies and re-selling the burial plots, disposing of bones in a remote area on the cemetery’s northern edge. Investigators raided the cemetery on July 8, 2009, and what they found was WORSE than that nightmare.
Hundreds of graves had been desecrated. Grand Theft transformed into Money Scheme, which had been going on for some 5 years. More than 200 to 400 graves had been affected by this scandal.
JUST IMAGINE WHAT JEWELRY AND FAMILY HEIRLOOMS WERE STOLEN OFF THE BODIES.
As news of the despicable behavior broke, hundreds of worried relatives began descending on Burr Oak, worried that their loved ones were among those who had been dug up and discarded.
Among the revelations, investigators discovered the deteriorating casket of EMMETT TILL covered with a tarp amid other debris in a garage behind the cemetery’s main office. Till had been exhumed in 2005 and reburied in a newer casket. His original casket was considered a relic of the civil rights movement. The public was shocked to learn it had been left to decay in such deplorable conditions. This really upset the Till family. The wife of one of the FBI anthropologists who worked for the Smithsonian Institution restored casket and it is now at an honored spot at the Museum of African American History in Washington.
Cemetery manager Carolyn Towns drew a 12-year prison sentence for her role in the crimes. Backhoe operator Maurice Dailey was sentenced to 3 years of probation, foreman Keith Nicks drew a 6 year prison term, and his brother Terrence Nicks was sentenced to 3 years.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.
