Exploring the Ruins of Hitler's Berghof | History Traveler Episode 273
Located in heart of the Obersalzberg of southern Germany was the place that was of utmost importance to Adolf Hitler: the Berghof. It was here that many of the most consequential decisions of the Third Reich were made, which is why it was a primary target for the Allies toward the end of the war. Even though the Berghof was largely destroyed by RAF bombers, there are still remains that can be seen today that give us a glimpse at this nerve center of evil in WWII.
Note: In the video, I say that Eva Braun had a video camera when I meant to say film camera.

VISITING HITLER'S BERGHOF - 2023
This is my first video on my channel: Strange History Productions. I begin my production with a visit to Hitler's Berghof at Obersalzberg in the Bavarian alps in Germany. There is a lot of now-and-then-videos out there already, but my contribution will be a little bit different. I am not an historian, neither a professional filmmaker, but I hope viewers will find the video interesting. More videos from Obersalzberg is under production.
Thanks for watching.

Hitler's Home Movies at the Berghof (with commentary)
At the end of WWII, U.S. soldiers discovered 28 rolls of 16 mm film that were shot by Eva Braun. They complied these 28 rolls into 8 reels. These films give us a small window into the secret life of some of history's most evil men. This is a compilation of the parts of those films that were shot at the Berghof. Commentary has been provided to help the viewer understand who and what are being seen on these films.
Note: At the 1:55 mark, I identify the man in the film as Otto Günsche. It's possible that it might be Hans Hermann Junge, who was a driver for Hitler and later married Tradl Junge.

What happened to Hitler's Berghof in the Bavarian Alps? #dwhistoryandculture #dwtravel #ww2
The Berchtesgadener Land is considered one of the most beautiful regions in Germany. Adolf Hitler built the Berghof, his holiday home, in this area, making it one of the key Nazi headquarters. Today, the Documentation Center at Obersalzberg in the Bavarian Alps stands as a reminder of the Nazi crimes that were planned in this picturesque mountainous region.

The Berghof
The Berghof was Adolf Hitler's home in the Obersalzberg of the Bavarian Alps near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany. Other than the Wolfsschanze ("Wolf's Lair"), his headquarters in East Prussia for the invasion of the Soviet Union, Hitler spent more time at the Berghof than anywhere else during World War II. It was also one of the most widely known of his headquarters, which were located throughout Europe.
Rebuilt, much expanded and renamed in 1935, the Berghof was Hitler's vacation residence for ten years. In late April 1945 the house was damaged by British aerial bombs, set on fire by retreating SS troops in early May, and looted after Allied troops reached the area. The Bavarian government demolished the burnt shell in 1952.

Hitler's Mountain: Hidden Traces
In the Bavarian Alps, some still call it “the Brown Mountain”. For the hundreds of thousands of tourists who go to Obersalzberg every year, it is difficult to imagine that 70 years ago, this postcard landscape was home to the second place of power of the Nazi regime. Having become chancellor, Adolf Hitler spent more than 1000 days there. That's a quarter of his reign.
