Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, KG,PC,FRS (21 December 1804– 19 April 1881) was a British politician and writer, who twice served as Prime Minister. He played a central role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party, defining its policies and its broad outreach. Disraeli is remembered for his influential voice in world affairs, his political battles with the Liberal Party leader William Ewart Gladstone, and his one-nation conservatism or "Tory democracy". He made the Conservatives the party most identified with the glory and power of the British Empire. He is, at 2016, the only British Prime Minister of Jewish birth.
Disraeli was born in London. His father left Judaism after a dispute at his synagogue; young Benjamin became an Anglican at the age of 12. After several unsuccessful attempts, Disraeli entered the House of Commons in 1837. In 1846 the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel split the party over his proposal to repeal the Corn Laws, which involved ending the tariff on imported grain. Disraeli clashed with Peel in the Commons. Disraeli became a major figure in the party. When Lord Derby, the party leader, thrice formed governments in the 1850s and 1860s, Disraeli served as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the House of Commons. He also forged a bitter rivalry with Gladstone of the Liberal Party.
In 1868, at the end of his first term as Prime Minister, Disraeli's wife Mary had been created Viscountess Beaconsfield, of Beaconsfield in the County of Buckingham, in her own right, allowing her husband to remain a member of the House of Commons. Lady Beaconsfield died in 1872. When Disraeli became an earl in 1876 he automatically lost his seat in the Commons but remained Prime Minister, leading his government from the House of Lords.
The parish comprises Beaconsfield town and land mainly given over arable land. Some beech forest remains to supply an established beech furniture industry in High Wycombe, the making of modal and various artisan uses.
The district was formed on 1 April 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972, by the amalgamation of the area of Beaconsfield Urban District with part of Eton Rural District. The district was originally named Beaconsfield: it was renamed to its present title on 1 April 1980, following the passing of a resolution by the district council. It is formally called 'South Bucks' rather than 'South Buckinghamshire'.
Transport
A large part of the district is sandwiched between the M40 and M4 motorways, both of which have junctions within the district. The major M40/M25 interchange is located near Gerrards Cross and is the M25's only junction in the district. South Bucks contains the greatest length of motorway in any Buckinghamshire district.
Railway lines follow the motorways: they are the Great Western Main Line and the Chiltern Main Line, with important stations in Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross. Denham Aerodrome in the southeast of the district has a small number of chartered flights running out of it.
Beaconsfield is an Australian television film produced for Nine Network. It premiered on Nine Network on 22 April 2012.
The film is a dramatisation of the 2006 Beaconsfield Mine collapse. It was ranked 2nd of the night with a viewership of 1,637,000
Plot
On Anzac Day 2006, Todd Russell (Lachy Hulme) and Brant Webb (Shane Jacobson), along with fellow miner Larry Knight (Simon Lyndon), were trapped deep inside the Beaconsfield gold mine in Tasmania after a cave-in.
Todd and Brant were enclosed nearly 1000 metres underground, caged in a space so small they couldn’t sit up straight or lie down.
Most Australians know that Todd and Brant survived the mine collapse that killed their mate Larry. However, they don’t know much more than that. Now Beaconsfield tells the whole story.
After discovering the two men were alive, the search became a dramatic rescue mission. Working in conditions that could see another cave-in at any moment, colleagues worked tirelessly to get them out alive.

Benjamin Disraeli: Jewish-Born Prime Minister of England (Jewish Biography as History)
Baptized at age 12 as the result of his father's dispute with a synagogue, Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) rose to prominence as a novelist and politician, serving several times as England's Prime Minister. Colorful and flamboyant, Disraeli dismissed his antisemitic critics by emphasizing, rather than downplaying, his Jewish origins.

WHY READ SYBIL by Benjamin Disraeli?
Sybil by Benjamin Disraeli is perhaps the best known of Disraeli's classic novels. But why read it?
This is the first video in a series on classic literature called "Why Read ...?" There are no spoilers in these videos but give a classic book synopsis and reasons for taking the time to read a particular classic book.
Classic literature or classic books are often noteworthy for the importance of their message or ideas. In Sybil, Benjamin Disraeli explores the nature of the tragic situation of the poor and common working man in 1830's Britain. Supposedly a love story, Sybil is important as a classic book because of the permanence of its political critique of the differences in society.
