Only a few days after the Normans had captured Anglesey from the Welsh, Magnus Barefoot appeared with some ships off the coast. Fighting soon began with arrows shot between the Norwegian ships and Norman forces on the shore, but as Hugh of Montgomery was hit with an arrow and killed, the Normans retreated back to England. The defeat of the Normans allowed for the return of the exiled Gruffudd ap Cynan, King of Gwynedd, who thereby regained control of his former lands.
Background
Following their invasion of England in 1066, and the subsequent conquest of large parts of Wales, the Normans proceeded towards North Wales in the late 11th century. While the Normans experienced a setback in 1094, the Norman earls Hugh of Montgomery and Hugh d'Avranches finally managed to conquer North Wales and Anglesey in 1098, forcing Gruffudd ap Cynan, King of Gwynedd, to flee to Ireland.
Formerly a historic county of Wales and later part of Gwynedd, Anglesey today makes up the Isle of Anglesey County along with Holy Island and other smaller islands. Almost three-quarters of Anglesey's inhabitants are Welsh speakers and Ynys Môn, the Welsh name for the island, is used for the UK Parliament and National Assembly constituencies.
Etymology
"Anglesey" is derived from Old Norse, originally meaning either ǫngullsey ("Hook Island") or Ǫnglisey ("Ǫngli's Island"). No record of any such Ǫngli survives, but the place name was used by Viking raiders as early as the 10th century and was later adopted by the Normans during their invasions of Gwynedd. The traditional folk etymology reading the name as the "Island of the English" may account for its Norman use but is without merit, although the Angles' name itself is probably a cognate reference to the shape of the Angeln peninsula. All of these ultimately derive from the proposed Proto-Indo-European root *ank- ("to flex, bend, angle"). It was also formerly spelled as Anglesea.
The Laws in Wales Act 1535 (26 Hen. VIII, c. 26) provided for a single county seat in the House of Commons for each of twelve historic Welsh counties (including Anglesey) and two for Monmouthshire. Using the modern year, starting on 1 January, these parliamentary constituencies were authorised in 1536.
The Act contains the following provision, which had the effect of enfranchising the shire of Anglesey.
And that for this present Parliament, and all other Parliaments to be holden and kept for this Realm, one Knight shall be chosen and elected to the same Parliaments for every of the Shires of Brecknock, Radnor, Mountgomery and Denbigh, and for every other Shire within the said Country of Dominion of Wales;

Things To Do In Anglesey Wales - North Wales Vlog
Welcome to this Things To Do In Anglesey Wales Vlog.
Anglesey is an island in Wales, off the mainland's North West coast.
The island is accessed via the 19 century Menai Suspension Bridge and by the 20th Century Britannia Bridge.
In this things to do in Anglesey wales vlog, our day took a few twists and turns.
Our original plan was to visit Bardsey Island, an island just off the coast of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales and to make a Bardsey Island vlog, but due to the changing weather conditions and the risk of wind, our trip to Bardsey Island was cancelled last minute.
We decided to look where else we could explore and after a bit of searching, we decided to visit Anglesey and after looking on Trip Advisor, we decided to visit some of the places that were listed as their Top Things...

We decided to look where else we could explore and after a bit of searching, we decided to visit Anglesey and after looking on Trip Advisor, we decided to visit some of the places that were listed as their Top Things To Do In Anglesey Wales.
We drove to the North West of the island to the famous South Stack Lighthouse. We had never been to South Stack before (well, Wills had as a child, but couldn't really remember it).
We had a great time exploring South Stack Lighthouse, although the steps were a killer.
Next on our adventure exploring Anglesey Wales, was a trip to Llangefni and a walk around the Dingle Nature Reserve. Also known as Nant Y Pandy, we went for a lovely free walk around this beautiful nature reserve. If you're looking for things to do for free in Anglesey or things to do for free in North Wales, then the Llangefni Dingle Nature Reserve is highly recommended.
A short drive over the island was next as we headed to the beautiful beach at Red Wharf Bay. If you're looking at contenders for the Best Beaches In North Wales, then Red Wharf Bay must be on the list.
Next off, we take another short drive and head to Benllech Beach. Benllech Beach was a lot busier than Red Wharf Beach, but it was amazing to see so many people enjoying a North Wales seaside resort.
Our final destination before we headed home was taking a trip to see the train station with the longest name in Europe -
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
We also tell you how you pronounce it and what it means.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is also known as Llanfair PG or, Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll and is a large village and community on the Menai Strait.
We plan to do a separate vlog soon about the meaning and locations of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, so look out for that one in the future.
Finally, it was time to head home for our tradition sum up of the day and enjoy a well deserved pint.
We loved our day trip around Anglesey, North Wales and hope you enjoy this Anglesey vlog.

Juan Sánchez - Heading To Dreamland
And as we always say in Postcard and a Pint - Cheers To The Good Times x

⭐ About Postcard & A Pint:
Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint YouTube channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It's just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x

Isle Of Anglesey clockwise coastal trip visiting Menai, Llanddwyn, Cribinau, South Stack, Cemaes, Amlwch Port, Moelfre, Red Wharf Bay, Penmon and others
