Barry Ryan (singer)

Barry Ryan (born Barry Sapherson, 24 October 1948, Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire) is an English former pop singer. He currently works as a photographer.

The son of pop singer Marion Ryan began performing with his twin brother Paul at the age of 16. In 1965 they signed a recording contract with Decca under the name of Paul & Barry Ryan. Within two years they had amassed 8 Top 50 singles in the UK. Their best sellers were "Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches", a #13 hit in 1965, "I Love Her", a #17 hit in 1966 and "Have Pity on the Boy", a #18 hit the same year.

This success took its toll on Paul, who was unable to cope any longer with the stress of show business. It was decided that Barry would now continue as a solo artist, enabling his brother to stay out of the limelight and write songs for his twin to perform. Their greatest achievement as a composer-singer duo, now for MGM Records, was "Eloise", a #2 hit in 1968. Melodramatic and heavily orchestrated, it sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc. "Love is Love", their next chart entry, also became a million-seller.

Ryan Singer

Ryan Singer is a Navajo contemporary painter living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is of the Tódich’íinii clan, born for Kinyaa’áani. Singer is known for his vibrant pop art look on contemporary and historical Native American and popular culture.

Background

Born in Cedar City, Utah, Singer grew up on the Navajo reservation and credits Tuba City, Arizona as his hometown. As a child Singer gained inspiration from watching his uncle, also an artist, painting in his studio, and from the comic books he read. In the summers he would attend Navajo sheep camp, where he was taught to understand the Navajo language despite not being fluent.

At the age of 10, Singer started studying art books and familiarized himself with not only Western artists but also Navajo artists like Shonto Begay and Bahe Whitethorne. He also became interested in surrealistic artists such as Salvador Dalí.

As a youth he became engrossed in punk rock culture, immersing himself in 'zines, skateboarding and music. He graduated from high school in Window Rock, Arizona in 1992 and entered Northern Arizona University studying forestry, inspired by his interests in the outdoors and environmentalism. This led to him working for the United States Forest Service for five years, when he left disappointed with the red tape of big government. Returning to college in 2004 he started studying fine art at Arizona State University, eventually becoming a full-time artist.

Barry Ryan (footballer)

Barry Ryan (born 28 August 1978, in Ennis) is a retired Irish football goalkeeper who last played for Limerick in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

He made his League of Ireland debut for UCD away to Sligo Rovers on 15 February 1997. Barry's previous clubs include Dublin City, Shamrock Rovers and UCD.

He made his Rovers debut on 11 April 2003 keeping a clean sheet against Drogheda United but was sacked by Shamrock Rovers later that season after testing positive for cocaine. During his time with Rovers he made 4 European appearances keeping one clean sheet playing in the UEFA Intertoto-Cup and made a total of 28 appearances.

After a 9 month ban he returned with Dublin City but could not forestall the Vikings' relegation and was dropped in favour of Robbie Horgan for the final handful of games. After Dublin City became extinct, he was signed by St. Patrick's Athletic.

Ryan was released by St. Patrick's Athletic in January 2009, and moved to Galway United.

Ryan was out of contract with the west of Ireland club before the 2010 season, but his re-signing was announced on 2 February 2010.

Barry Ryan (Catholic priest)

Barry Edmund Ryan (born January 23, 1948) is an American former Roman Catholic priest who pleaded guilty to repeatedly molesting a six-year-old boy, for which he was sentenced to two years in prison.

After his ordination in 1976, Ryan worked in parishes in Brooklyn, New York before enlisting as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force in 1984. He suspended from the priesthood in 1995 after allegations of improper sexual conduct while he had been stationed at Mobile, Alabama. Also, Ryan was suspended from his priestly duties.

Until the spring of 2003, he was a library media specialist at Martin County High School in Stuart, Florida, where he was named Teacher of the Year in 2001. He took a medical leave of absence in the wake of news reports that he might have been involved in improper sexual activity during his time as an Air Force chaplain. Also, he was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer.

Shortly afterwards, between May and October 2003, he forced a six-year-old boy to perform oral sex upon him at the boy's family home in Long Island.
