Barcelona Metro All the Lines Compilation
The Barcelona metro is the second biggest metro system in Spain. The main language used in Barcelona is Catalan which means the majority of station names are in Catalan. The metro is split between 2 different companies. These are the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) and the Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). The TMB livery is a mix of red and white and they are the company who own the majority of metro lines. The FGC owns 4 metro lines and a handful of suburban rail lines. It's livery is orange and white on some trains and red and white on others. The rolling stock is pretty diverse but all being relatively new and functional. Like the Madrid metro, the Barcelona metro gains its power from an overhead rail. The system is one of the best in Europe and well serves ...

Watch this video ad-free on Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/rmtransit-a-different-way-to-build-a-metro
In a world where every subway line is the same, this "metro" line did something incredibly different. So different that after 20 years the line's still not done! And yet, the engineering is impressive enough that it's still being emulated to this day.

Evolution of the Barcelona Metro 1863-2050 (geographic map)
The history of the Barcelona Metro starting from the opening of the Ferrocarril de Barcelona a Sarriàis in 1863 is shown in this animation.
Note:
Only the history of the FGC urban lines that later became part of the metro is shown.
The FBS line (now L6) was initially built as a surface line but was gradually moved underground. This process is not shown in the video.
L6/L7 does not integrate into the metro until 2003, but they were still considered to be "rapid transit" before the integration so it appears on the map since its inauguration in 1863.
The section of L8 was first inaugurated in 1884, but the line does not appear on the map until 1996 when the infrastructure was decided to be upgraded to the metro standard with increased speed and frequency.
