Barcelona is a fifth class municipality in Sorsogon Province, Philippines, bounded by Gubat in the north, Bulusan in the south, Casiguran in the west and Pacific Ocean in the east. According to the 2010 Philippine census, it has a population of 20,340 people.
The site of Barcelona was originally part of Gubat and Bulusan. The town's name was known as Danlog, taken from the name of a swift flowing river. The change of name to Barcelona was recommended by a Spanish official that saw some similiarties with Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain). On April 16, 1886, it became a pueblo civil. Until 1868, it was part of the parish of St. James the Great of Bulusan. After 1868, it took St. Joseph as its patron saint and celebrates their town fiesta on May 19.
Historically it was governed by Mayors Rustico Estopace and Salvador Estuye.
Based on the election result last May 14, 2007, Mayor Salvador Nee Estuye was elected together with Vice mayor Isabel Esmeria.
Barcelona is also known for its abundant supply of coconut, abaca and root crops such as sweet potato & cassava. It is also the main source of Pili nut, a popular delicious unique nut which you can certainly enjoy as dessert or main dish. It is also called the Little Switzerland of Asia because of its landscape.
Barcelona is the capital of Anzoátegui State, Venezuela and was founded in 1671. Together with Puerto La Cruz, Lecheria and Guanta, Barcelona forms one of the most important urban areas of Venezuela with a population of approximately 950,000.
History
Unlike Puerto La Cruz, which was mostly built in the 20th century, Barcelona has a mish-mash of historical and modern architecture from its several years of growth and development. The settlement of Nueva Barcelona del Cerro Santo (English: New Barcelona of the Holy Mountain), was originally established by the Spanish conquistador Joan Orpí (a native of Piera, Catalonia in Spain). It was later re-founded and populated by governor Sancho Fernández de Angulo two kilometres from the original settlement, and by a small community of Catalan colonists around 1671. Barcelona was one of the provinces under the governmental authority of the New Andalusia Province (Nueva Andalusía, or New Andalusia), and referred to commonly as New Barcelona. One of the remaining buildings of this period is the Museo de Anzoátegui, considered the oldest building in the city.
Barcelona is an album recorded by Freddie Mercury, frontman of popular British rock band Queen, and operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé. Released in 1988. It is the second and final solo album recorded by Mercury.
After Barcelona was selected to host the 1992 Summer Olympics, Mercury was approached to write a song as a theme for the forthcoming games. The idea was to create a duet with Montserrat, as she is from the city. He had been a long standing admirer of her and she in turn grew to respect his talents very highly. They decided to work on an album together, with Mercury and Mike Moran taking the creative lead as songwriters. Mercury and Moran made and sent her tapes of the music with Mercury singing in falsetto as a guide vocal for Montserrat's parts. As they rarely had an opening in their schedule to meet, her parts were recorded at another location.
A special edition of the album was released on 3 September 2012. It features a new version of the album with the previous instrumental tracks replaced with new, live symphonic orchestration and percussion rather than synthesisers and drum machines. The new edition also has a new unique album cover.
Sorsogon (also called Balikmaya), is one of the barrios or barangays of the municipality of Malabuyoc, province of Cebu, Philippines. Sorsogon is located at center of all the barangays in Malabuyoc.

BARCELONA SPAIN In The PHILIPPINES? Hidden Tunnels and Cold Spring! (Sorsogon, Bicol)
BARCELONA... YOU MIGHT THINK SPAIN, BUT THIS IS IN THE PHILIPPINES!
On this day we take our scooters and head to the Municipality of Barcelona in Sorsogon Bicol. This town is really historic and you can see that from the ruins and church by the seawall. My friend Boy Perstaym shares some unique history trivia, after we hangout at a local carinderia. Really interesting learning about the secret tunnels and what the ruins of Barcelona are! From there, we meet a local at the gas station and end up on a motor adventure to a hidden cold spring...
IT WAS AN AWESOME AND REFRESING COLD SPRING! The water was clean, clear, and truly a great local place to take a dip. The barrio coconut tree and rice field motor was awesome as well!

Barcelona Ruins Park & St. Joseph Parish Church
The park serves as the main draw for visitors to this old town. The ruins were made of stones, coral, and lime and were the remains of various government buildings built during the Spanish Colonial Era. All that's left are the remnants of Escuela Pia, a children's school, and the Presidencia, which served as the Spanish Colonial Government's headquarters. Adjacent to these ruins stands the fully intact St. Joseph Parish Church, a reminder of the town's illustrious past. Although the century-old church is also known as Saint Joseph Parish Church, it is more well known as Barcelona Church. Built in 1874 by the Franciscans, the original walls and bell tower still stand. The church, according to the locals, is one of the most exquisite in the Bicol Region and is built of coral rocks.
