Bank South Pacific (or BSP) is Papua New Guinea’s largest bank, with 35 branches throughout the country and in operation in 6 countries. BSP currently services over 650,000 business banking customers throughout the Pacific. As of 31 December 2014 BSP has total assets valued at K15.8 billion.
History
The bank traces its history back to 1 May 1957 when the National Bank of Australasia established a branch in Port Moresby. As independence approached for Papua New Guinea (PNG), the incoming government made known its desire that all banks in PNG be locally incorporated, rather than branches of a foreign parent. In response, the National Australia Bank (NAB) incorporated its operations in 1974.
Then the government encouraged the bank to sell equity to local citizens. BSP conducted public offerings in 1980 and 1981, with the result that local citizens came to hold 13% of the bank's shares. Later, the government decided to acquire control of BSP. In 1993, National Investment Holdings Limited (NIHL) first acquired NAB’s 87% shareholding, and then the 13% of the shares in the hands of the public, giving it 100% ownership of BSP. In 1995 the government decided to increase the bank's capital base, which it achieved by selling a 25% stake to Credit Corporation (PNG) and a 22% stake to Motor Vehicles Insurance (PNG) Trust (now incorporated as Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited).
South Pacific was filmed primarily in Australia, with some scenes shot in Moorea, an island close to Tahiti. Sixteen songs are featured in the movie. This version omitted the well-known song "Happy Talk", and cut the even more popular song "Bali Hai" in half. Several new scenes, such as Nellie and Emile's very first meeting at the officer's club, were added, and a new character was created to serve as Nellie's best friend and confidante. The sex scenes between Liat and Lt. Cable were also dealt with more frankly than in the original.
The Original Soundtrack to the film South Pacific was released in 1958. The film was based on the musical South Pacific by Rodgers and Hammerstein, which had been first staged nine years earlier. The composers had much say in this recording, with many of the songs performed by accomplished singers rather than the actors in the film.Mitzi Gaynor and Ray Walston were the only two leading performers who did their own singing in the film (and on the soundtrack album). The roles of Emile DeBecque, Bloody Mary and Joe Cable were sung by Giorgio Tozzi, Muriel Smith and Bill Lee, respectively.
The album became a major success, reaching No.1 in both the US and UK. In the US, the album stayed at No.1 for seven months - the fourth longest run ever. In the UK, the album remained in the top five for 27 consecutive weeks before reaching No.1 in November 1958. It stayed at the top for a record-breaking 115 weeks (the first 70 of these consecutively - including the whole year of 1959), and remained in the top five for 214 weeks.

Bloody Mary: Most people live on a lonely island, Lost in the middle of a foggy sea. Most people long for another island, One where they know they will like to be. Bali Ha'i may call you, Any night, any day, In your heart, you'll hear it call you: "Come away...Come away." Bali Ha'i will whisper In the wind of the sea: "Here am I, your special island! Come to me, come to me!" Your own special hopes, Your own special dreams, Bloom on the hillside And shine in the streams. If you try, you'll find me Where the sky meets the sea. "Here am I your special island Come to me, Come to me." Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i! Someday you'll see me floatin' in the sunshine, My head stickin' out from a low fluin' cloud, You'll hear me call you, Singin' through the sunshine, Sweet and clear as can be: "Come to me, here am I, come to me." If you try, you'll find me Where the sky meets the sea. "Here am I your special island Come to me, Come to me." Bali Ha'i, Bali Ha'i,
