National Australia Bank (abbreviated NAB, branded nab) is one of the four largest financial institutions in Australia in terms of market capitalisation and customers. NAB was ranked 21st largest bank in the world measured by market capitalisation and 41st largest bank in the world as measured by total assets in 2014. NAB operates 1,771 branches and service centres and 4,578 ATMs across Australia, New Zealand and Asia serving 12.7 million customers.
National Australia Bank was formed as National Commercial Banking Corporation of Australia Limited in 1982 by the merger of National Bank of Australia and the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney. The resulting company was subsequently renamed National Australia Bank Limited.
The expanded financial base of the merged entity triggered significant offshore expansion over ensuing years. Representative offices were established in Beijing (1982), Chicago (branch 1982), Dallas (1983), Seoul (1983, upgraded to a branch in 1990), San Francisco (1984), Kuala Lumpur (1984), Athens (1984, closed 1989), Frankfurt (1985, closed 1992), Atlanta (1986), Bangkok (1986), Taipei (1986 upgraded to branch 1990), Shanghai (1988, closed 1990), Houston (1989) and New Delhi (1989).
This large masonry building was constructed 1881-1885 as the new Head Office for the successful and influential Queensland National Bank.
The burgeoning gold mining industry of the early 1870s created a mood of optimism and a desire for increased development capital, free from inter-colonial and overseas control. Seizing on this mood, eight prominent local businessmen and politicians formed the Queensland National Bank (QN Bank) in March 1872. Immediate widespread support of the bank exceeded expectations and the continuing patronage of powerful political figures ensured its prominence. When Thomas McIlwraith, a Queensland National Bank director, became Premier in 1879, he swiftly transferred the Queensland Government accounts to the Bank.
National Australia Bank is a heritage-listed former bank building at 180 Queen Street, Brisbane City, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by A & K Henderson and built from 1929 to 1930 by George Alexander Stronach. It is also known as National Bank of Australasia. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.
History
This building, constructed in 1929-30, replaced an earlier bank which had erected in 1891 for the Royal Bank of Queensland. In 1917 the Royal Bank of Queensland merged with another Queensland bank, the Bank of North Queensland to form the Bank of Queensland. In 1922, the Bank of Queensland was absorbed by the National Bank of Australasia and several years later decided to build a new bank on the site.
Designed by Melbourne architects A & K Henderson with assistance from local firm of Atkinson, Powell & Conrad, the contractor was G A Stronach, with the technical advice of Thomas Walker Pearce. It was an example of the pervasive fashion for the neo-classical style in commercial and civic buildings, of similar scale and materials during the period. The building was opened on 6 May 1930 and its lavish fittings and imposing style attracted favourable comment. Prominent features of the building included the large bronze doors in the Queen Street entrance, separate lifts for tenants, and a special women's banking section fitted with lounge, retiring room, writing facilities and telephone. Over the years various professional tenants have occupied the upper floors - solicitors, doctors, accountants, architects, and optometrists.

The Stock of the Day is National Australia Bank (NAB)
National Australia Bank (NAB) has announced it's planning to buy back shares worth S1.5 billion. Despite posting a 13% drop in first half cash earnings, cash earnings for the six months to March came in at $3.55 billion, in line with consensus. NAB's net interest margin, which is a closely watched measure of profitability, fell to 1.72 from 1.77% a year earlier, declared an interim dividend of $0.84 a share. Our experts, Daniel Ortisi from The Stock Doctor and Kevin Robertson from TeamInvest, share their view on the stock. Daniel says that he has a preference for NAB compared to its peers due to the business banking element, which has been performing well but says that if you're looking to outperform the market then you might need to reduce your banking exposure.

Cause I must like it as much as I do And who says we don't use all this feeling blue To avoid a conversation that might just ring true? Might just ring true? I tend to skip forward to the darkest of my favourite cd songs I hum them in my head when the sun is beating down on my rubber thongs I roam alone through the rooms we share You catch a glimpse of who I am I see that you return my stare I give you a nod but don?t give you a damn No, I don?t give you a damn And who says we don't like feeling blue? We must like it as much as I we do And who says we don't like feeling blue Cause I must like it as much as I do And who says we don't use all this feeling blue To avoid a conversation that might just ring true? That might just ring true?
