A comptroller is a management level position responsible for supervising the quality of accounting and financial reporting of an organization. A financial controller is a senior-level executive who acts as the head of accounting, and oversees the preparation of financial reports, such as balance sheets and income statements
An auditor general is a senior civil servant charged with improving government accountability by auditing and reporting on the government's operations.
The Auditor-General is an office established by the 1996 Constitution of South Africa and is one of the Chapter nine institutions intended to support democracy, although its history dates back at least 100 years.
The incumbent is Thembekile Makwetu who was deputy auditor-general until he took over from Terence Nombembe whose contract ended in December 2013. Nombembe, who also served as deputy auditor-general prior to his appointment, replaced Shauket Fakie on his retirement in December 2006.
Mandate
The Auditor-General, a "watchdog over the government," is an ombudsman-type office similar to that of the Public Protector but with much more limited jurisdiction. The focus of the office is not inefficient or improper bureaucratic conduct but the proper use and management of public money. Section 188 of the Constitution states that the Auditor-General is required to report on the finances of all national, provincial and local government administrations and has the discretion to audit any institution that receives money for a public purpose. The reports of the Auditor-General must be made public. They must also be submitted to any legislature which has a direct interest in the audit, and to any other authority prescribed by national legislation.

A Month in the life of a Controller
My work life as a financial controller revolves around a few things. It mostly all has to do with financial reporting. But in order to get to report on the financial information, I need to go through some operational tasks around tax, audit, accounts payable billing etc.
In general days are very different meaning that I do different tasks each day of the month. But unfortunately the nature of the work means that I have some sort of repetition that occurs each month. It’s almost like living the same month over and over, with some very minor plot twists.
In this video I’m gonna attempt to break down a month in the life or financial controller rather than focusing on a day in the life. This is because I believe a month is a better representation of what I have to do to produce monthly fina...

What does a NYC comptroller do?
New York City residents will vote for more than just a new mayor in the June primaries and November general election. Also on the ballot: candidates for city comptroller. Current Comptroller Scott Stringer is term-limited and has joined a crowded field of Democrats who are running for mayor. The job title may not seem as glamorous as others in public service, but the comptroller plays an important role in government as the city’s chief financial officer. The coronavirus pandemic has ravaged the city’s finances, making the position — and who holds it — all the more critical.

What are the differences in the job description between a controller and a CFO?
Is becoming a controller a good stepping stone into getting a role as a CFO?
What is a typical career trajectory that leads to a CFO role?
