RIDGELINE V: RESISTANCE - GEE ATHERTON
Gee Atherton is a double World Champion mountain biker and creator of the spectacular Ridgeline Series. Gee’s daring rides have challenged every limiting belief of what is possible on a bike, but not without great cost. In 2021, Ridgeline III: The Knife Edge resulted in a horrific crash, which put him out of action for almost two years.
Undeterred, Gee was determined to return to creating the 'Big Mountain' films he loves, travelling to the Dolomites in Italy for Ridgeline IV. In this latest episode, Gee and his crew re-define the series with a focus on behind-the-scenes and the physical and mental cost of capturing action edits such as these.

Ridgeline IV: The Dolomites : Gee Atherton Rides The Via Ferrata
Watch the latest spectacular edit in the Ridgeline Series with Gee Atherton, the double World Champion Mountain Biker, world-renowned for his skill and daring on a bike taking on the Via Ferrata.
"Since the first hour of the first build for the original Ridgeline film, it's been the dream to take this concept to the most amazing places around the world. The potential to find awesome, remote mountain ranges where we can test ourselves to the limit… to really explore what's possible on a bike and how to film the most stunning footage… it's been like a running commentary throughout the entire project." - Gee Atherton.
This film differs from its predecessors in that the team "didn't move a rock." It was about exploring with friends - an adventure into the mountains, where Gee would ride what...

America's Richest City Won't Let Poor People Move In
They way these liberal elites are acting is crazy! They even look down on a part of Atherton they call "Poverty Pocket" where homes are ONLY $2 million. Haha!
Well for most of us, that’ll never ever happen. So the question is very rhetorical. Here in Atherton, that’s just status quo. That means if you make $450,000 a year, you’re below average. Tech billionaires live here. The head of Google, the head of Facebook and the founder of Microsoft have all called Atherton home.
And you thought you felt pressure to keep up with your neighbors my god.
But all these people need to be close to where the action is. As you probably know, Silicon Valley has all the world’s biggest tech companies.
Homes here average close to $10 million each the day I drove through here, but by the time you watch...

THE RIDGELINE
“This is probably the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen Gee do on a bike, absolutely on the very edge of what’s possible." - Dan Atherton
Above Dyfi Bike Park, a grassy ridge runs down from a 666m summit. The views are stunning but just 2 metres to the left the land falls away, dropping hundreds of metres...
Gee said “I’ve always wanted to film here, it’s so incredibly exposed and totally unique but it's not a fun place to ride, its terrifying!"
Spectacular action from one of the world's toughest and most accomplished riders.

RIDGELINE II - THE RETURN - GEE ATHERTON
“There is nobody on this planet like Gee Atherton” - Rob Warner, Red Bull Hardline 2022
World downhill champion Gee Atherton has always ridden at the very limit of what is possible on a bike.
It’s his can-do attitude and the crazy locations that Gee sees as an irresistible personal challenge that have enabled him to push the boundaries of the sport time and time again.
Gee’s daring is world famous and in recent years millions have enjoyed spectacular edits such as The Ridgeline and the Slate line, but the risks involved in these “Big Mountain” projects are horrific.
In June 2021 when filming “The Knife Edge” Gee had a horrendous crash with a huge list of injuries…
Gee's recovery was a long process with no guarantees that he would ride again but the thought of “the new Ridgeline” (bu...

Ridgeline V: Resistance was filmed in the stunning surroundings of Engelberg-Titlis, Switzerland. Gee chose the title because "The mountain fought us every step of the way, testing our resolve and wearing us down with challenge after challenge. Hot then cold, wet, scared, hungry, exhausted and physically drained, we’d suddenly be faced with an enormous obstacle. We are a tight-knit crew, and I feel like the mountains have shaped, changed, and strengthened us… we’ve dug deeper than we’d have believed we could. Even at the very pinnacle of competition there’s a place inside of you can rarely access. We all went there."
Gee said, “From the start, the Ridgeline Series has been about taking mountain biking to the limit… exploring what’s possible on a bike and creating the most stunning footage in the most amazing places around the world. I love that feeling of being on the very limit of how far we can go.
I’m super proud of what we have achieved with the Series so far, but I wanted to move beyond the adrenaline and glamour of a four-minute edit. I wanted to show the reality behind those action highlights, the hard grind, the setbacks, and the absolute trust in my bike, my crew, and my equipment that are essential in the making of these films. I want to keep on pushing boundaries and this film gives an unvarnished insight into what that takes. Every single step felt like we’d picked a fight with forces way bigger than ourselves."
Gee filmed the Ridgeline Series on board the Atherton Bikes A.170, which was designed by Gee, his World Champion siblings Dan and Rachel and built by a small team of expert engineers in Machynlleth, Mid-Wales.

This film differs from its predecessors in that the team "didn't move a rock." It was about exploring with friends - an adventure into the mountains, where Gee would ride whatever they found, including some of the most unforgiving terrain of the series so far.
And there's pedalling, even if it's at racing speed and inches from a ravine.
Filming took place this August in the Italian Dolomites, where access to riding spots involved four-hour hikes, roped climbs, ladders and abseils. The team was burdened with camera equipment, drones, food supplies and Gee's bike, broken down to frame, bars and wheels to share the load. It was physically and mentally the most demanding week of the series so far, where a sense of adventure and genuine concern for their survival drove the team onwards in search of some of the most incredible scenes they have ever filmed.
Gee said that from the start, he knew that he'd film this edit on board the Atherton Enduro A.170, the latest in the Atherton Bikes range that he designed and manufactured along with his siblings Dan and Rachel Atherton and their close-knit team in Machynlleth, Mid Wales.
Gee said, "It was a no-brainer - the A.170 is tough enough to withstand being bounced off cliff walls as we hauled it up a cliff on a rope, lighter to hike up the mountain than my DH bike, pedals super well and is enough bike to tackle every inch of the steep and rocky terrain."
He was accompanied by photographer Dan Griffiths (Moonhead Media) and "right-hand man" Jamie Robertson, who had both been with the project from the beginning, but in such perilous terrain, they also involved Brodie Hood, a high altitude and adventure specialist. Brodie is one of the few filmers to fly drones to the top of Everest, an experienced climber and a member of the Lochaber Mountain rescue team.
As Gee put it, "Having Brodie with us kept us alive! But it also meant we could say yes to things we wouldn't have tackled alone… At the end of the film, there's a sequence where I ride down a ridge at sunset; Brodie devised a harness system that meant I could practise controlling my speed while he let out the tension until I got comfortable. The section of the film where I'm riding the slowest, picking my way down the ridge, was actually the most demanding of all.

Homes here average close to $10 million each the day I drove through here, but by the time you watch this video, they’ll probably be worth more than that. The rich keep gettin richer. This is the first time in our nation’s history that an entire city’s population earns on average a half million bucks. And there’s 7,000 people here.
Driving around Atherton, there isn’t a lot to see. A lot of people are on their walks. There are a lot of Teslas instead of Lamborghinis. You see lots of contractors in front of homes, undoubtedly doing significant upgrades. I saw a lot of food trucks in front of homes to feed the hordes of contractors that you see on every street. All those landscapers and marble layers gotta eat somewhere.

Gee's recovery was a long process with no guarantees that he would ride again but the thought of “the new Ridgeline” (built way back in 2021 before his horrible accident) was a huge motivation
Gee said “I have to admit the first day up on the new ridge was challenging, I’d been riding chilled bike park laps and suddenly I was back at the top of a Ridge with all the knowledge of what had gone before. But I do these projects purely because I love it. I’ve always enjoyed that creative side,.. the freedom to build things as hard as you want. There are no boundaries, and I always end up making them a little bit harder than I should. As soon as I dropped in I was back where I belong"
