In astronomy, an asterism is a pattern of stars recognized in the Earth's night sky. It may be part of an official constellation or it may be composed of stars from more than one constellation.
Colloquial usage does not draw a sharp distinction between "constellation" in the sense of an asterism (pattern of stars) and "constellation" in the sense of an area of the sky surrounding an asterism. The modern system of constellations used in astronomy employs the latter concept. For example, the asterism known as the Big Dipper comprises the seven brightest stars in the IAU constellation that is called Ursa Major.
Like constellations, asterisms are in most cases composed of stars which, although visible in the same general area, are often located at very different distances from Earth.
Simple shapes composed of a few stars make asterisms easy to identify. Thus they are particularly useful to people who are familiarizing themselves with the night sky.
Background
Even before the dawn of civilization, it became common to clump various stars together in connect-the-dotsstick-figure patterns. The grouping of stars into constellations is essentially arbitrary, and different cultures have had different constellations, although a few of the more obvious ones tend to recur frequently, e.g., Orion and Scorpius. Historically, without an "official" list, there was really no difference between a constellation and an asterism. Anyone could arrange and name a grouping which might or might not be generally accepted. Still, some of our own constellations go back at least as far as the Babylonians.
Astronomy is the fourth studio album by Swedish power metal band Dragonland, released in Europe on November 13, 2006 and in North America on November 28, 2006. While their third album Starfall focused heavily on keyboards and had a more upbeat lyrical tone, according to guitarist Olof Mörck, Astronomy is "gloomier, more stygian and packed with crunching guitars; both furiously fast and bone-grindingly heavy."
In a February 2007 interview with Metal Reviews, guitarist Olof Mörck went into details about some of musical and lyrical influences in Astronomy:
Olof and Elias Holmlid were inspired to write the "The Old House on the Hill" trilogy by listening to film scores, and they attributed this trilogy to Danny Elfman, probably most famously known for his Tim Burton's Batman theme and the The Simpsons theme. Unlike the "The Book of Shadows" trilogy from the Starfall album which had the story written after the music was composed, the "The Old House on the Hill" trilogy's story was written by Olof, and it took about six months to get the song fully fleshed out and recorded.
The song's lyrics are selected verses from a poem by Sandy Pearlman, the band's producer and mastermind behind their image, called "The Soft Doctrines of Immaginos". In the poem, which was later partially released under the BÖC moniker in the album Imaginos, aliens known as Les Invisibles guide an altered human named Imaginos, also called Desdinova, through history, playing key roles that eventually lead to the outbreak of World War I.
In "Astronomy", the character of Imaginos comes to realize his heritage and his role as the altered human. References are made to celestial objects throughout the song: "The light that never warms" being the moon, "The Queenly flux" the constellation Cassiopeia, "My dog, fixed and consequent" being Sirius, the dog star. The "Four Winds Bar" may be a reference to the Tropic of Cancer. All in all, it has Imaginos explaining his position as part of Les Invisibles.

Heliosphere
The sun sends out a constant flow of charged particles called the solar wind, which ultimately travels past all the planets to some three times the distance to Pluto before being impeded by the interstellar medium. This forms a giant bubble around the sun and its planets, known as the heliosphere. NASA studies the heliosphere to better understand the fundamental physics of the space surrounding us - which, in turn, provides information regarding space throughout the rest of the universe, as well as regarding what makes planets habitable.
The solar wind is a gas of charged particles known as plasma, a state of matter governed by its own set physical laws just as the more common solids, liquids, and gases are. As the solar wind sweeps out into space, it creates a space environme...

Cause socially speaking
We were the same
With runaway fathers and mothers who drank
A tale old as time
Young love don’t last for life
And now I know
Now I know
It’s time to go
It’s time to go
We’ve traveled the seas
We’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems
Like you own my heart
It’s astronomy
We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy)
We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy)
We’re two worlds apart
From far away
I wish I’d stayed with you
But here face to face
A stranger that I once knew
I thought if I wandered
I’d fall back in love
You said distance brings fondness
But guess not with us
The only mistake
That we didn’t make
Was run
Now look what we’ve done
We’ve traveled the seas
We’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems
Like you own my heart
It’s astronomy
We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy)
We’re two worlds apart
Stop tryna keep us alive
You’re pointing at stars in the sky
That already died
Stop tryna keep us alive
You can’t force the stars to align
When they’ve already died
Oh we’ve died
Ooh
Oh, we’ve traveled the seas
We’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems

Lyrics:
We drive through the woods Rich neighborhoods to watch We joked as we looked
That they were too good for us
Cause socially speaking
We were the same
With runaway fathers and mothers who drank
A tale old as time
Young love don’t last for life
And now I know
Now I know
It’s time to go
It’s time to go
We’ve traveled the seas
We’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems
Like you own my heart
It’s astronomy
We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy)
We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy)
We’re two worlds apart
From far away
I wish I’d stayed with you
But here face to face
A stranger that I once knew
I thought if I wandered
I’d fall back in love
You said distance brings fondness
But guess not with us
The only mistake
That we didn’t make
Was run
Now look what we’ve done
We’ve traveled the seas
We’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems
Like you own my heart
It’s astronomy
We’re two worlds apart
(It’s astronomy)
We’re two worlds apart
Stop tryna keep us alive
You’re pointing at stars in the sky
That already died
Stop tryna keep us alive
You can’t force the stars to align
When they’ve already died
Oh we’ve died
Ooh
Oh, we’ve traveled the seas
We’ve ridden the stars
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars
As much as it seems
Like you own my heart
It’s astronomy
We’re two worlds apart

This asterism — and constellation — is a favorite of Astronomy columnist Phil Harrington, whose column often features Kemble’s Cascade and other treasures found in the Giraffe ... 2023 Astronomy Calendar & Observer's Handbook.
