The drills codenamed “Ocean” will continue until Sept. 16 and involve more than 400 vessels including warships, submarines and support vessels, as well as more than 120 naval aircraft and in excess of 90,000 personnel, the Russian Defense Ministry said on it...

East Asia & the Pacific Explained
Fifty years ago, life expectancy, education, and GDP in East Asia and the Pacific were well below the global average. Today, the region is home to some of the world’s largest financial centers, most innovative tech hubs, and fastest high-speed trains. For decades, Japan and the Four Asian Tigers (Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan) led the region economically, but today no country can compare to China, whose rise has turned it into the world’s second-largest economy. This economic success has also come with greater geopolitical ambitions as China works to expand its influence around the world and as far afield as the Arctic Circle. With China rising and other Asian economies continuing to grow, this region commands our attention—because what happens here will affect the rest of ...

Asia Pacific war would be ‘far worse’ than World War I and II
Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie has expressed grave concerns over the prospect of war in the Asia Pacific region, warning it would be “far worse” than any war seen in the 20th century.
Mr Hastie said it is essential to “maintain the peace” to prevent World War III.
“We have got to talk, we have got to continue our dialogue with China, but we also have to prepare for any sort of strategic contingency,” he told Sky News anchor and investigative journalist Peter Stefanovic.
“And that means we have to build up our military capacity.”

“The US is seeking to achieve a tangible military advantage, and in that way break the existing security architecture and balance of power in the Asia-Pacific region,” Putin said Tuesday in a televised videoconference with defense chiefs. “We will continue to strengthen our navy, including its strategic nuclear component.”
The drills codenamed “Ocean” will continue until Sept. 16 and involve more than 400 vessels including warships, submarines and support vessels, as well as more than 120 naval aircraft and in excess of 90,000 personnel, the Russian Defense Ministry said on its Telegram channel. They’ll take place in the Pacific and Arctic oceans, and the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic seas, it said.
The ministry didn’t list the Black Sea among the locations, where its warships have been the target of repeated attacks by Ukrainian drones in recent months.

Today the Asia-Pacific zone, which produces more than half of the world’s GDP – is at the center of fierce competition between China and the United States as the world’s leading power. And this has been slowly developing into an arm wrestling match.
From Washington and Canberra to Beijing, this documentary will decrypt the geopolitical proceedings and actions implemented in this new powder keg. This is a complex moment between war and peace and a tipping point in World History. The archaic reflexes of the past are still going on for both sides, so what can lead both sides to question themselves?

With China rising and other Asian economies continuing to grow, this region commands our attention—because what happens here will affect the rest of the world.

Why Animals Don’t Cross This Invisible Border 🚧 Wallace Line 😱
🌍 Did you know there's an invisible line in the Malay Archipelago that separates two entirely different worlds of wildlife? 🌏 This boundary, called the Wallace Line, runs from Bali to the southern Philippines and marks a stark contrast between Asian animals like rhinos 🦏 and tigers 🐅 on one side, and Australian creatures like kangaroos 🦘 and koalas 🐨 on the other. But why does this happen?
Millions of years ago, tectonic plate movements 🌋 created a deep sea strait 🌊 along the Wallace Line, preventing species from migrating and allowing evolution to take different paths. Even birds 🐦 and fish 🐠, capable of traveling long distances, rarely cross this line, adapting to their own unique ecosystems.
The fascinating story behind the Wallace Line, a natural divide that continues to shape the biod...

The Invisible LINE That No Animal, Bird or Fish Can Cross
It was 1859, a 36-year-old man from Wales with his limited education suddenly became a key figure in biology. He discovered something you cannot see, you cannot hear, or even touch but it’s extremely important for studying biology and biodiversity in the world.
This is merely an imaginary line passing between two Indonesian islands. If you stand on Bali's coast and look east at Lombok, you'll see a narrow 32 km stretch of water that looks nothing special.
But if you look closely, on the western side of the line, the wildlife is typical of Asia, including species like rhinos, elephants, and tigers. The moment you cross the line to the eastern islands, you find a different mix of animals, such as marsupials, Komodo dragons, and cockatoos.
This is known as a biogeographic boundary called the Wallace Line, which marks the meeting point of two regions rich in biodiversity. And this invisible barrier runs through the Malay Archipelago, the largest group of islands in the world.
How did this invisible line come to be? Why does it affect where species live? How did that man figure out its location? Let's find out the answers to these questions in this video.

BAKU - Maritime Southeast Asia is a cluster of small and large islands that sit between the Indian and Pacific oceans. Historically part of the East Indies and contemporary known as the Malay Archipelago, the area has some of the world’s highest levels of biodiversity for marine ecosystems. Here, coral, fish and molluscs thrive. Yet, perhaps the prevailing characteristic is the maritime-based cultures that are represented by the nations of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. All of this makes for a unique archipelagic neighbourhood with its own distinct geopolitical needs.

The fascinating story behind the Wallace Line, a natural divide that continues to shape the biodiversity of our planet. 🦘🐅🌿
