In early Colonial times, the Church of England clergy worked closely with the governors. Richard Johnson, a chaplain, was charged by the governor, Arthur Phillip, with improving "public morality" in the colony, but he was also heavily involved in health and education.Samuel Marsden (1765–1838) had magisterial duties, and so was equated with the authorities by the convicts. He became known as the "flogging parson" for the severity of his punishments. Some of the Irish convicts had been transported to Australia for political crimes or social rebellion in Ireland, so the authorities were suspicious of Roman Catholicism for the first three decades of settlement and Roman Catholic convicts were compelled to attend Church of England services and their children and orphans were raised by the authorities as Anglicans.
The Anglican Communion is an international association of independent churches consisting of the Church of England and of national and regional Anglican churches in full communion with it. The status of full communion means, ideally, that there is mutual agreement on essential doctrines and that full participation in the sacramental life of each church is available to all communicant Anglicans.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of All England, has a place of honour among the bishops of the Anglican churches. He is recognized as primus inter pares, or first among equals. The archbishop does not exercise authority in the provinces outside England, but instead acts as a focus of unity.
The churches of the Anglican Communion considers themselves to be part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and to be both Catholic and Reformed. For some adherents Anglicanism represents a non-papal Catholicism, for others a form of Protestantism though without a dominant guiding figure such as Luther, Knox, Calvin, Zwingli or Wesley. For others, their self-identity represents some combination of the two. The communion encompasses a wide spectrum of belief and practice including evangelical, liberal and Catholic.
The Anglican Church of the Resurrection is a church located in central Bucharest, Romania, near Grădina Icoanei, at the intersection of Xenopol street and Arthur Verona street. The church is built with red bricks and it has English language service every Sunday between 10 and 11 AM, a small English fiction library and a Sunday School.
History
The land over which the church was built was given by the Commune of Bucharest to the British Crown in December 1900, the erection of the building being finished in 1914, but the interiors (with furnishings from England) were finished only after World War I. The first service was held in 1920, being dedicated on November 5, 1922 by the Bishop of Gibraltar.
During World War II, the church was closed, being taken care by a church guardian and cleaner who was paid by the Swiss Embassy. It was reopened only on Christmas Day 1944, with the help of Royal Navy and American military staff. After the communists seized power in Romania, there was no permanent chaplain, services being held by visiting priests on a monthly basis. Starting 1966, the church once again had a permanent priest. The current priest is Martin Jacques.
In the song, the character Derek (who is featured in the story line of Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)) attempts to convince his father, Arthur, of the great opportunities available in Australia, where there's "no drug addiction" and you can "surf like they do in the U.S.A." Derek's advertisement is compared to John Smith, who campaigned for America in a similar manner, by author Thomas Kitts.
The song also features a jam sequence lasting for approximately half the song, which is atypical for The Kinks. In the Australian single edit, this section is removed by editing an earlier section of the song into another section during a drum beat, which is then followed by a fade-out.
Australia is a chestnut colt with a narrow white blaze bred by the Newmarket-based Stanley House stud. Australia was sired by Galileo, a Derby winner himself who went on to become an outstanding breeding stallion, winning the title of champion sire on five occasions. Galileo had sired two previous Epsom Derby winners New Approach in 2007 and Ruler of the World in 2013. Australia's Dam Ouija Board won seven Group One races including the 2004 Epsom Oaks and was twice named European Horse of the Year. He is the fourth foal produced by Ouija Board and second to Galileo, Australia's older sister Filia Regina has had limited success with only a single victory in a handicap at Yarmouth. His half brother Our Voodoo Prince won 3 races in Britain before being sold and is currently in training with Chris Waller in Australia.

Australian Anglican Church splits after 'going too far to the Left'
Sky News host Andrew Bolt says something dramatic has happened in the Anglican Church – a faith ten per cent of Australians believe in.
“A lot of Anglicans have thought their church has gone too far to the Left too - not just here but overseas,” he said.
“And some last week broke away and set up their own, called the Diocese of the Southern Cross.”
Mr Bolt said the sect swore in former Anglican Archbishop of Sydney Glenn Davies as their first bishop.
He discussed the issue with Anglican priest and Institute for Spiritual Awareness Director Father Mark Durie.
