The All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organization (APMSO) is notable for being the student organization that created its mother organization, the Muhajir Qaumi Movement, now called the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
APMSO was founded by Altaf Hussain who was a member of Islami Jamiat e Talaba. This is claimed that his organisation failed to help him when he was struck off the roles because of shortness in attendance. Altaf Hussain claimed that he was targeted because of his eyhinicity.
Instead of trying to downplay destructive ethnic politics that were a danger to national cohesion, the Pakistani government allowed the existence of ethnic-based student organizations. In one of Pakistan’s well known universities, Karachi University, there were at least ten different groups of students; The Pakhtoon Student Federation, Baloch Student Organization, Punjabi Student Association, Punjabi Medico Organization, Sindhi Medico Organization, Jiye Sindh Student Organization, Sindhi Student Action Committee, Saraiki Student Organization, Kashmiri Student Federation, Balochistani Student Association, and the Islami Jamiyat-e-Talba.In 1978,a group of Urdu speaking students of Karachi University, led by Altaf Hussain, created the APMSO on June 11, 1978.

Section 1 of the Indian Independence Act 1947 provided that from "the fifteenth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, two independent dominions shall be set up in India, to be known respectively as India and Pakistan." India was treated by the United Nations as the successor-state to the former British India. As it was already a member of the United Nations, India continued to hold its seat there and did not apply for a new membership. However, Pakistan was a newly created nation and needed to apply to join. It was admitted as a UN member on 30 September 1947, a few weeks after its independence The British monarch became head of state of the new dominion, with Pakistan sharing a king with the other Commonwealth realms, but the monarch's constitutional roles were delegated to the Governor-General of Pakistan, and most real power resided with the new government headed by Jinnah.

Talking to the gathering, MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi said APMSO is the only students' organisation which produced a huge political party which is now third biggest in the country. He said MQM was continuously being elected by urban areas of Sindh for the last three decades but unfortunately it was never allowed to do justice with its huge mandate.
He said MQM is not Karachi only political party because it had its parliamentarians in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Assemblies and Altaf Hussain's philosophy had already been spread all over the country. He suggested APMSO activists and students that they should build their characters and always show positive attitude to others.
MQM Parliamentarian Muzammil Quraishi said that national and international conspiracies were knitted against MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and tried to stop his philosophy to spread all over the world. He said MQM workers and supporters always followed Mr Hussain's teachings and kept serving the humanity despite their ethnic or communal belongings.
