While born in Canada, Hunter and his brother Tim grew up in Westport, Connecticut where he attended Staples High School. Staples won the 1971 Connecticut state championship Hunter’s junior. While the team repeated as champions in 1972, Hunter shattered his leg mid-season, putting him out for the rest of the year. He then attended the University of Connecticut, playing on the men’s soccer team from 1974 to 1976. He was selected as an honourable mention (third team) All American in 1975 and a first team All American his senior season. He was also team captain that season.
Professional
Hunter signed with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1977. He played only three games and transferred to the Detroit Express where he became a regular starter for two seasons. In 1980, he played only five games for the Express and in 1981, found himself with the Tulsa Roughnecks where he played twenty games. He also played NASL indoor during the 1979–80 and 1980–81 seasons.
When African-American musical tastes began to change in the early 1960s, moving toward soul and rhythm and blues music, country blues found renewed popularity as "folk blues" and was sold to a primarily white, college-age audience. Traditional artists like Big Bill Broonzy and Sonny Boy Williamson II reinvented themselves as folk blues artists, while Piedmont bluesmen like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee found great success on the folk festival circuit.
Paul Hunter is a Canadiantelevision journalist for CBC News reporting from Washington DC mainly on American politics. Hunter has reported from numerous places across Canada and the world, both as a reporter and correspondent reporting on events including the Premierships of Stephen Harper and Paul Martin, the Haiti earthquake, the inauguration of Barack Obama, the Montreal ice storm of 1998, the trial of Paul Bernardo and the American occupation of Iraq. In 2008 he was embedded for two months with Canadian troops in Afghanistan. His report "The Fundamental Day", which brought attention to the conservative religious views of Canadian Alliance leader Stockwell Day, was noted as a turning point in the 2000 Canadian federal election.
Hunter is married to Canadian journalist Joy Malbon, Washington bureau chief for CTV News. The CBC has assigned him to Washington as part of the 2009 changing of the guard in their Ottawa bureau.
Paul Alan Hunter (14 October 1978 – 9 October 2006) was an English professional snooker player. His media profile developed swiftly and he became known as the "Beckham of the Baize" because of his good looks and flamboyant style.
