A Brief Overview of the Achaean League | Ancient Greece
Today we’re going to be having a look at the Achaean League
There were two main 'phases' of the Achaean League and we're having a look at the key happenings of both of these phases.
The league was essentially an alliance between the different cities and regions that made up Achaea. Looking back at this video maybe I should have included a bit more about Sparta's involvement in the league and some of the other internal happenings... but oh well, I think this brief overview will do for now. I can always make another video.
If you need something smart sounding to say in class, say this: "The primary focus of the Achaean League was to expel the Macedonians and to restore Greek rule in the Peloponnese."
We're also going to be having a look at this guy called Aratus of Sicyon who managed...

Genetics of the Greeks: European or Middle Eastern?
Just who exactly are the Greeks and what is their genetic makeup? Today we will be discussing a brief history and genetics of the Greek people, one of the most influential groups of people, not only in the West, but nearly the entire world.
Be sure to let me know your thoughts on the history and genetics of the Greeks, without whom, our entire history and culture as we know it would look drastically different. Thanks for watching! Honestly, I did not think the video title was so controversial. Just trying to answer a commonly asked question!

We're also going to be having a look at this guy called Aratus of Sicyon who managed to get himself elected as the head of the League 17 times. This position was called the Strategos, which is like a Greek term for the elected military general.

SUMMARY
=======
Achaea or Achaia (Greek: Ἀχαΐα, Akhaia; Latin: Achaia), was a province of the Roman Empire, consisting of the Peloponnese, eastern Central Greece, and parts of Thessaly. In the north, it bordered on the provinces of Epirus vetus and Macedonia. The region was annexed by the Roman Republic in 146 BC following the sack of Corinth by the Roman general Lucius Mummius, who was awarded the cognomen "Achaicus" ("conqueror of Achaea"). It became part of the Roman province of Macedonia, which included the whole of mainland Greece.
Achaea was a senatorial province, thus free from military men and legions, and one of the most prestigious and sought-after provinces for senators to govern. Athens was the primary center of education for the imperial elite, rivaled only by Alexandria, and one of the most important cities in the Empire. Achaea was among the most prosperous and peaceful parts of the Roman world until Late Antiquity, when it first suffered from barbarian invasions. The province remained prosperous and highly urbanized however, as attested in the 6th-century Synecdemus.
The Slavic invasions of the 7th century led to widespread destruction, with much of the population fleeing to fortified cities, the Aegean islands and Italy, while some Slavic tribes settled the interior. The territories of Achaea remaining in Byzantine hands were grouped into the theme of Hellas.
