Ellen Muriel Deason (August 30, 1919 – July 16, 2012), known professionally as Kitty Wells, was an American pioneering female country music singer. She broke down a female barrier in country music with her 1952 hit recording, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" which also made her the first female country singer to top the U.S. country charts, and turned her into the first female country star. Her Top 10 hits continued until the mid-1960s, inspiring a long list of female country singers who came to prominence in the 1960s.
The story takes place in a single day during a lavish wedding that merges a nouveau riche Southern family with an established wealthy Chicago family having possible ties to organized crime.
Plot
Dino Corelli (Desi Arnaz Jr.) marries Muffin Brenner (Amy Stryker) in a lavish Episcopalian church wedding presided over by a doddering, forgetful bishop. After the ceremony, the wedding party and guests drive back to the Corelli mansion for the reception. Meanwhile, the elderly, bedridden matriarch Nettie Sloan (Lillian Gish), mother of Regina Sloan Corelli (Nina Van Pallandt) and grandmother of the groom Dino, is being tended in her upstairs bedroom at the mansion by drunk, lecherous Dr. Jules Meecham (Howard Duff). Nettie is lying in her bed speaking with wedding planner Rita Billingsley (Geraldine Chaplin) when Nettie suddenly dies peacefully. Dr. Meecham informs Dino's father and head of household Luigi Corelli (Vittorio Gassman) of Nettie's death, but leaves it to him to tell his wife Regina, which Luigi is unable to do because Regina is high on drugs and mentally unstable. Nettie's corpse remains lying in bed, appearing to be asleep, throughout the reception, while various attendees are quietly told about her death or in some cases visit her in her room without realizing she's actually dead. By the time her bossy daughter Toni (Dina Merrill) finds out and calls a family meeting to make a dramatic announcement, the other family members are mostly not surprised or even too upset.
The Lyric Opera of Chicago commissioned the work, and the opera was first performed there on December 11, 2004. The premiere had stage direction by Altman and was conducted by Dennis Russell Davies. The film's 48 characters were trimmed down to 19 on stage.
Since the premiere, A Wedding has seen performances at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, the University of Houston's Moores School of Music, and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. It will be performed by the Aspen Opera Center for the Aspen Music Festival and School's 2016 summer season.
Recently, the Music Academy of the West commissioned Bolcom to write a chamber version of the opera, with a reduced orchestration. This reorchestration received its premiere on August 8, 2008 in Santa Barbara, California.
"A Wedding" is the eighth episode of the sixth season of the American musical television series Glee, and the 116th overall. The episode was written by Ross Maxwell, directed by executive producer Bradley Buecker, and first aired on February 20, 2015 on Fox in the United States.

Pulitzer-prize winning composer William Bolcom talks about his latest opera, A Wedding, which was part of the 2007-08 IU Jacobs School of Music Opera Theater season. The opera portrays an all-American train wreck of a wedding in which everything that can go wrong does. Sung in English with English supertitles, it is the third of Bolcom's operas to have its collegiate premiere at Indiana University. McTeague and A View from the Bridge played to rave reviews in 1996 and 2005, respectively. But unlike the others, which are weighty, serious productions, A Wedding dispenses with any semblance of the decorum ordinarily associated with opera.

A glimpse of rehearsals at Covent Garden for David McVicar's The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro).
Le nozze di Figaro was the first fruit of Mozart’s partnership with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte; they would go on to create Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte. For Figaro, Da Ponte adapted (perhaps at Mozart’s suggestion) Pierre Beaumarchais’ controversial play Le Mariage de Figaro, which at the time was banned in Vienna due to its seditious content. The opera was well received in Vienna but had only nine performances; its revival soon after in Prague was a tremendous success, and led to the commission of Don Giovanni. Figaro quickly entered the international repertory and has rarely been out of it ...

Irina Ivanov (Irina Lomova) sings Con Te Partirò by Andrea Bocelli (Time to Say Goodbye) at Elks Tower in Downtown Sacramento. A stunning #opera performance that took the breath away of all the audience at the wedding reception and especially the Bride’s Dad, Igor Lomov.
Here is the story of how this epic production came to be.
When Irina was 10 years old, her dad made her promise she would sing this song to him one day. This was his favorite song and it was his dream to see his daughter perform it.
Since Irina’s dad was her first vocal coach, she never went on stage without his guidance and critique. He was a part of her every performance and made sure she performed up to his “standard.”

Figaro quickly entered the international repertory and has rarely been out of it since, admired as one of Mozart’s finest works.
David McVicar’s acclaimed production sets the action in a French château in 1830 on the eve of revolution, amplifying the opera’s undercurrents of class tension. The entire household is drawn into the notoriously complex plot, which covers all shades of human emotion: from spirited playfulness (such as ‘Non più andrai’, when Figaro cheerfully sends Cherubino off to war), to deep despair (such as the Countess’s grief at her husband’s infidelity in ‘Dove sono i bei momenti’). But affection and fidelity prevail in this most warm-hearted of operas: the Count’s plea for forgiveness in the final act, ‘Contessa, perdono’, is an especially moving moment.

As soon as Irina’s boyfriend, Alex Ivanov, proposed and the #wedding planning begun, Irina wanted to thank her parents in a special way. She wanted to give them something personal; something that they both could be proud of. Her dad was asking her to sing a song on her wedding, but for once, she wanted to relax and not stress on her big day. Besides how could singing be personal? She sang all the time at weddings so it would've felt just like any other wedding gig.
Digging through old sheet music she stumbled upon her dad's favorite song, Time to say Goodbye (Andrea Bocelli - Con Te Partirò). She knew that if she attempted this song her dad would recognize every wrong note. There was just no way that she would have the guts to perform this song in front of the most intimidating judge in the world... dad.
Hearing that she wouldn't be singing at her own wedding, he was hurt and disappointed. Finally Irina decided to give it a try. For the first time she rehearsed a song without her dad's help. Knowing how important this performance would be to her parents, this was the personal gift that she decided to dedicate. She felt indebted for all the time, and money they invested in her musical career so she knew this was the only way to surprise dad; with a promise she made when she was only 10.
Knowing that he had high expectations it just had to be perfect. She didn't want to sing it with another instrumental track. Since her dad loved live orchestral music she called up a few friends and colleagues, and organized a well kept hidden secret surprising everyone during the reception, including her dad.

Miss Kitty Wells sings her big 1952 #1 hit 'It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels' at the Grand Ole Opry. The songwriter was Jimmy D. Miller.
Lyric:
As I sit here tonight the jukebox playing
The tune about the wild side of life
As I listen to the words you are saying
It brings mem'ries when I was a trustful wife
It was't God who made honky tonk angels
As you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong
[ fiddle ]
It's a shame that all the blame is on us women
It's not true that only you men feel the same
From the start most ev'ry heart that's ever broken
Was because there always was a man to blame
It was't God who made honky tonk angels
As you said in the words of your song
Too many times married men think they're still single
That has caused many a good girl to go wrong

The Life and Tragic Ending of Kitty Wells
Kitty Wells was born on August 30, 1919, was born Ellen Muriel Deason on 30 August 1919, one of six siblings, to Charles Cary Deason and his wife, Myrtle, in Nashville, Tennessee. She is one of the few well-known country performers to have been born in Nashville.
Wells began singing as a child, learning guitar from her father, who was a brakeman on the Tennessee Central Railroad. Her father, Charles, and his brother were musicians, and her mother, Myrtle, was a gospel singer. As a teenager, Wells sang with her sisters, who performed under the name the Deason Sisters, on a local radio station beginning in 1936. At the age of 18 Wells married Johnnie Wright, a cabinetmaker who aspired to country music stardom which he would eventually achieve as half of the duo, Johnnie & Jack. She was widowed 33 days before their 74th wedding anniversary when Johnnie died in 2011, aged 97. Kitty and Johnnie had three children, Ruby, Bobby, and Carol Sue, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Songs Made Famous By Jim Reeves (1966)
Kitty Wells with a cover of Jim Reeves' smash hit 'He'll Have To Go' appropriately named 'She'll Have To Go'.
Lyric:
Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone
Let's pretend that we're together all alone
I'll tell the man to turn the jukebox way down low
And you can tell your friend there with you, she'll have to go
Whisper to me, tell me, do you love me true
Or is she holding you the way I do?
Though love is blind, make up your mind I've got to know
Should I hang up or will you tell her she'll have to go?
You can't say the words I want to hear
While you're with another friend
Do you want me answer yes or no?
Darling, I will understand
Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone
Let's pretend that we're together all alone
I'll tell the man to turn the jukebox way down low
And you can tell your friend there with you, she'll have to go
Kitty Wells sings Searching (For Someone Like You) at the Grand Ole Opry in 1955. This song has been a #3 country hit for her and was written by Pee Wee Maddux.
Lyric:
Searching I've spent a lifetime darling
Searching looking for someone like you
Dreaming in all my dreams I dream that someday
I'd find someone like you
Other loves have come my way but they were not for me
Tell me that you're here to stay don't ever set me free
Cause I've been searching I've spent a lifetime darling searching
Looking for someone just like you
[ fiddle ]
Other loves have come my way but they were not for me
Tell me that you're here to stay don't ever set me free
Cause I've been searching I've spent a lifetime darling searching
Looking for someone just like you

This wedding bestows that extra grandeur and magic that dazzled all the guests. The couple stunned everyone as they walked into the majestic venue !
