Construction began in 1970 and the first section was finished in 1972, connecting Vrhnika and Postojna. Everyday operation of this initial stretch started on 29 December 1972.
The connection to Koper was finished on 23 November 2004. The second-to-last part, from Trojane to Blagovica, was opened on 12 August 2005. It was also the most expensive, having eight viaducts and two tunnels despite being only 11km long. The final section, the eastern Maribor bypass, opened on 14 August 2009.
Route description
The A1 motorway provides connection of Slovenia and Austria (only other motorway with border crossing to Austria being A2 motorway and was from the very start important route, because it connected three largest cities in Slovenia - Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje. On the other hand it also connected all those cities with Slovenian coast and provided better conditions for transit to Port of Koper. As of 2013 it is also the only motorway that is connected to all the other motorways in Slovenia.
The Albania–Kosovo Highway (Rruga e Kombit in Albania or Rruga "Dr. Ibrahim Rugova" in Kosovo), is a four-lane highway constructed from 2007 to 2013 by the American-Turkish consortium Bechtel-ENKA, Austrian, and Albanian companies between Albania and Kosovo. The highway starts near Lezhe, Albania as A1, passes through Kukes as SH5, enters Prizren in Kosovo as R7, and ends in Pristina near Gjergjica, Kosovo. Ultimately, as part of the South-East European Route 7, the highway will connect the Adriatic Sea ports of Durres and Shengjin in Albania via Pristina, with the E75/Corridor X near Niš, Serbia.
Dubbed the “patriotic highway”, the project links Albanians in Kosovo and Albania, helping to boost cultural and economic ties. The project is Albania's largest in decades, costing over one billion euros. It includes a six kilometer tunnel in Albania, making travel and trade easier for the hundreds of thousands of people vacationing in Albania during summer holidays and for business.
The Rabat–Tangier expressway is an expressway in Morocco. It begins in Morocco's capital of Rabat, and connects to the northern port city of Tanger. The expressway's identity marker is "A1".
The Rabat-Tanger expressway originates at an interchange along the Rabat-Fes expressway, at the end of the Rabat bypass. The road then continues to the toll station at the Kénitra centre interchange, before continuing north towards the Kénitra north interchange where it passes under the RP2 road. Just north of here lies the Kénitra north toll station. The expressway then follows the coast past the fishing village of Moulay Bouselham. 30km north of there is the town of Larache where there is an intersection. Another 30km along the way is the interchange at Sidi El Yamani, connecting to the road to Tetouan and Ceuta. There is another intersection at Asilah, with 40km remaining to Tanger. The road then crosses the Tahaddart river estauary before reaching its final destination.
Originally a connection from Luxembourg City to Luxembourg-Findel International Airport, at Senningerberg, in 1969, the A1 was extended in three stages from 1988 to 1992 to connect to the German border. From 1994 to 1996, two more sections were opened, bypassing the south-east of Luxembourg City and connecting the A1 to the Croix de Gasperich, where it meets the A3 (to Dudelange) and A6 (towards Arlon, in Belgium).
In all, the A1 was opened in six separate sections:
Slovenia (i/sloʊˈviːniə, slə-, -njə/sloh-VEE-nee-ə; Slovene:Slovenija[slɔˈʋéːnija]), officially the Republic of Slovenia (Slovene: Republika Slovenija, abbr.: RS), is a nation state in southern Central Europe, located at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes. It is bordered by Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. It covers 20,273 square kilometers (7,827sqmi) and has a population of 2.06million. It is a parliamentary republic and a member of the United Nations, European Union, and NATO.The capital and largest city is Ljubljana.
The territory is mostly mountainous with a mainly continental climate, with the exception of the Slovene Littoral that has a sub-Mediterranean climate and the north-western area that has an Alpine climate. Additionally, the Dinaric Alps and the Pannonian Plain meet on the territory of Slovenia. The country, marked by a significant biological diversity, is one of the most water-rich in Europe, with a dense river network, a rich aquifer system, and significant karst underground watercourses. Over half of the territory is covered by forest. The human settlement of Slovenia is dispersed and uneven.
Today Slovenia has more than 28,000 wineries making between 80 and 90 million litres annually from the country's 22,300 ha of vineyards. About 75% of the country's production is white wine. Almost all of the wine is consumed domestically with only 6.1 million l a year being exported—mostly to the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and lately the Czech Republic. Most of the country's wine production falls under the classification of premium (vrhunsko) wine with less than 30% classified as basic table wine(namizno vino). Slovenia has three principal wine regions: the Drava Valley, Lower Sava Valley and Slovenian Littoral.
History
Unlike many of the major European wine regions, Slovenia's viticultural history predates Roman influences and can be traced back to the early Celtic and Illyrian tribes who began cultivating vines for wine production sometime between the 5th and 4th centuries BC. By the Middle Ages, the Christian Church controlled most of the region's wine production through the monasteries. Under the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, privately owned wineries had some presence in the region but steady declined following the empire's fall and the beginning of Yugoslavia. By the end of the Second World War, co-operatives controlled nearly all of the region's wine production and quality was very low as the emphasis was on the bulk wine production. The exception was the few small private wineries in the Drava Valley region that were able to continue operation.
The 2004 European election was the sixth election to the European Parliament. However, as Slovenia had only joined the European Union earlier that month, it was the first election European election held in that state. The election took place on June 13.
The biggest surprise was the victory of the New Slovenia party over the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia and the defeat of the Slovene People's Party, which did not win a seat. The parties on the right of centre that form the opposition in the Slovenian national parliament won this election.

Driving in Slovenia from Postojna to Ljubljana on A1
We are driving in Slovenia from Postojna to Ljubljana on A1 motorway. The motorway is nice to drive, as it traverses a forrested landscape and it has relatively significant height differences. It links the well known Postojna Cave, one of the main tourist attraction of the country and the capital city, with a very nice historical old town. Photos from both places are integrated also in the video. Enjoy!
