Bowie knife
A Bowie knife (pronounced /ˈbuːiː/ BOO-ee or /ˈboʊ.iː/ BOW-ee) is a pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife created by James Black in the early 19th century for Jim Bowie, who had become famous for his use of a large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight.
Since the first incarnation, the Bowie knife has come to incorporate several recognizable and characteristic design features, although in common usage the term refers to any large sheath knife with a crossguard and a clip point. The knife pattern is still popular with collectors; in addition to various knife manufacturing companies there are hundreds of custom knife makers producing Bowies and variations.
Historical complications
The early history of the Bowie knife is complicated by murky definitions, limited supporting documentation and conflicting claims.

Knife
A knife (plural knives) is a tool with a cutting edge or blade, hand-held or otherwise, with most having a handle. Some types of knives are used as utensils, including knives used at the dining table (e.g., butter knives and steak knives) and knives used in the kitchen (e.g., paring knife, bread knife, cleaver). Many types of knives are used as tools, such as the utility knife carried by soldiers, the pocket knife carried by hikers and the hunting knife used by hunters. Knives are also used as a traditional or religious implement, such as the kirpan. Some types of knives are used as weapons, such as the daggers used by commandos or the switchblades used by 1950s-era criminal gang members. Some types of knives are used as sports equipment (e.g., throwing knives).
Knife-like tools were used at least two-and-a-half million years ago, as evidenced by the Oldowan tools. Originally made of rock, bone, flint, and obsidian, knives have evolved in construction as technology has, with blades being made from bronze, copper, iron, steel, ceramics, and titanium. Many cultures have their unique version of the knife. Due to its role as humankind's first tool, certain cultures have attached spiritual and religious significance to the knife.

"Knives" is an episode from the second season of the science fiction television series Babylon 5.
Synopsis
Londo Mollari reunites with an old friend, Urza Jaddo. Urza knows that soon he and his house will be declared enemy of the Republic and asks Londo to help him and his family. Londo talks to Lord Refa and asks him not to prosecute Urza. However, when Urza realises that, he becomes angry: it was Refa who ordered Urza's prosecution. Urza challenges Londo to the Morago, a ritual combat using Coutari, Centauri swords. Londo accepts the challenge, even though he could never beat Urza with the Coutari, because refusal would bring disgrace on his family. In the fight Mollari kills Jaddo and feels remorse for it. Later, Vir tries to console him by telling him that Urza would have killed him. Londo explains that Urza could have killed him at any time, but killing Londo would not have helped his family. In defeating Urza in the Morago, Londo must take Urza's family as part of his own. Because they are now House Mollari, the resolution against house Jaddo cannot harm them.

Knives (album)
Knives is the fourth studio album released by punk rock band Aiden. The album is a return to Aiden's punk rock style, after the lighter style of the album Conviction. The album was released on May 11, 2009, in the UK and May 12, 2009, in the United States through Victory Records. The band has described this album as, "raw, it's fast, it's pissed". It was recorded and produced by WiL at his own studio, Sleepy Hollow, in Seattle.
On April 1, 2009, "Scavengers of the Damned" was announced as the first single from the album and was made available to buy on iTunes as well as uploaded to the band's MySpace page.

(LSTA) (controlled by CHUM Limited through a 60% interest in the company) was granted a television broadcasting licence by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) called Canadian Learning Television. The channel was licensed to provide "formal and informal educational programs on a wide range of topics."
The channel launched on September 1, 1999 as Canadian Learning Television, with a mix of educational and informational television programs. CHUM would later gain 100% ownership of the channel when it completed its purchase of the remaining interest in LSTA on February 15, 2005. The company would later be renamed Access Media Group.

A Well Made "Poor Man's Sword" - D-Guard Bowie Knife by Windlass Steelcrafts
This is either a short sword or a very long knife, depending on how you want to look at it. Either way, it's an affordable, functional reproduction, and here is my testing and review of it. It's a peened full-tang construction made of unknown high carbon steel (possibly 1085 or 1095). The blade did well when cutting soaked tatami mats, and it was impressively solid during harder tests, chopping dead wood. Handles nicely, with light weight and proper balance. Overall easy to recommend for the price ($70-80 USD). This is either a short sword or a very long knife, depending on how you want to look at it. Either way, it's an affordable, functional reproduction, and here is my testing and review of it.
It's a peened full-tang construction made of unknown high carbon steel (possibly 1085 or 1095). The blade did well when cutting soaked tatami mats, and it was impressively solid during harder tests, chopping dead wood. Handles nicely, with light weight and proper balance. Overall easy to recommend for the price ($70-80 USD).

This is either a short sword or a very long knife, depending on how you want to look at it. Either way, it's an affordable, functional reproduction, and here is my testing and review of it.
It's a peened full-tang construction made of unknown high carbon steel (possibly 1085 or 1095). The blade did well when cutting soaked tatami mats, and it was impressively solid during harder tests, chopping dead wood. Handles nicely, with light weight and proper balance. Overall easy to recommend for the price ($70-80 USD).

This is either a short sword or a very long knife, depending on how you want to look at it. Either way, it's an affordable, functional reproduction, and here is my testing and review of it.
It's a peened full-tang construction made of unknown high carbon steel (possibly 1085 or 1095). The blade did well when cutting soaked tatami mats, and it was impressively solid during harder tests, chopping dead wood. Handles nicely, with light weight and proper balance. Overall easy to recommend for the price ($70-80 USD).

These uniquely American blades have gained almost legend-like status for their role on the American frontier. Made famous by James "Jim" Bowie and his famous Sandbar Fight, Bowie knives became immensely popular and saw a wide variety of styles, from the down & dirty to the highly ornate.

Bowie knife
A Bowie knife (pronounced /ˈbuːiː/ BOO-ee or /ˈboʊ.iː/ BOW-ee) is a pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife created by James Black in the early 19th century for Jim Bowie, who had become famous for his use of a large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight.
Since the first incarnation, the Bowie knife has come to incorporate several recognizable and characteristic design features, although in common usage the term refers to any large sheath knife with a crossguard and a clip point. The knife pattern is still popular with collectors; in addition to various knife manufacturing companies there are hundreds of custom knife makers producing Bowies and variations.
Historical complications
The early history of the Bowie knife is complicated by murky definitions, limited supporting documentation and conflicting claims.
