How lysergamides bind to Serotonin 2B Receptor
In this short segment, I spoke to Roger Hudson about how LSD and other psychedelics fit inside the serotonin receptor. Roger has a youtube channel called first-person science in which he discusses scientific publications about psychoactive compounds. Here is the link;

The takeaway point from this video is that lysergamides and psilocin form a hydrogen bond with Glycine 221 and Aspartic Acid 135 on the serotonin 2b receptor. However, it is not yet know how mescaline derivatives fit inside the serotonin 2b receptor.

Sleep homeostasis regulated by 5HT2b receptor in a small subset of neurons in the dorsal fan-shaped body of drosophila. Yongjun Qian et al (2017), eLIFE https://doi.org/10.7554/eLife.26519
Our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying sleep homeostasis is limited. We have taken a systematic approach to study neural signaling by the transmitter 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in drosophila. We have generated knockout and knockin lines for Trh, the 5-HT synthesizing enzyme and all five 5-HT receptors, making it possible for us to determine their expression patterns and to investigate their functional roles. 5ht2B concerns about Microdosing Mushrooms
Does microdosing cause heart problems? What’s the difffrence between 5ht2b activation from Phen fen and Psilocybin? It comes down to OXYGEN. When Phen Fen would bind to the 5ht2B receptor, it would trigger cardiac 2B cell mitosis because of a resulting lack of oxygen in the blood. Psilocybin primarily acts on the CNS, with some PNS effects. Increased heart rate is one of these effects. HOWEVER…increased heart rate also increases oxygen in the blood.
Psilocybin has never (nor will be) associated with hypoxia (a lack of oxygen in the blood). Psychedelic educators must STOP being intellectually lazy, and really follow through with our research. ASK QUESTIONS… then keep on asking!!!!!

Serotonin 5-HT2 receptors are stimulated by monoamine neurotransmitters including serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. 5-HT2 receptor stimulation causes a buildup of intracellular inositol triphosphate and thereby an increase of cytosolic Ca2+. 5-HT2C receptor agonists are attractive drug targets that have potential use in the treatment of a number of conditions including obesity, psychiatric disorders, sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence.The 5-HT2C receptors are one of three subtypes that belong to the serotonin 5-HT2 receptor subfamily along with 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptors. The development of 5-HT2C agonists has been a major obstacle, because of severe side effects due to a lack of selectivity over 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptors. Activation of 5-HT2A receptors can induce hallucinations, and the activation of 5-HT2B receptors has been implicated in cardiac valvular insufficiency and possibly in pulmonary hypertension.

Serotonin 5-HT2 receptors are stimulated by monoamine neurotransmitters including serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. 5-HT2 receptor stimulation causes a buildup of intracellular inositol triphosphate and thereby an increase of cytosolic Ca2+. 5-HT2C receptor agonists are attractive drug targets that have potential use in the treatment of a number of conditions including obesity, psychiatric disorders, sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence.The 5-HT2C receptors are one of three subtypes that belong to the serotonin 5-HT2 receptor subfamily along with 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptors. The development of 5-HT2C agonists has been a major obstacle, because of severe side effects due to a lack of selectivity over 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptors. Activation of 5-HT2A receptors can induce hallucinations, and the activation of 5-HT2B receptors has been implicated in cardiac valvular insufficiency and possibly in pulmonary hypertension.
