The 1928 World Snooker Championship was a snooker tournament held at various venues throughout the season. The final was held at the Camkin's Hall in Birmingham, England. It was played on a challenge basis with the other 6 entries, playing off for the right to challenge Joe Davis in the final. The highest break of the tournament was 46 made by Alec Mann.
Davis won in the final 16–13 against Fred Lawrence, and retained the title.

The Championship was played on a challenge basis with the entrants, playing off for the right to challenge the Champion, Joe Davis, in the final. The Billiards Championship was contested on a challenge basic at the time and the same system was used for the snooker championship.
The first match played was between Tom Newman and Fred Smith at the Albert Hall, Kenilworth Street, Leamington Spa from 28 to 30 December. Newman led 7–1 after the first day and 10–6 at the end of the second day. Newman won the first two frames on the final day to win the match 12–6.
John Higgins won his first World title by defeating defending champion Ken Doherty 18–12 in the final. Doherty became another World Champion, who fell to the Crucible curse and could not defend his first World title. However, Doherty has come closer than any other first-time champion bar Joe Johnson to retaining his championship.

Stephen Hendry lost in the first round 4–10 to Jimmy White. It was the first time since his debut in 1986 that he lost in the last 32 and it was also the first quarter-final stage not to feature Hendry since 1988.

Clark McConachy v Tom Dennis played their match from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 April in Skegness over 25 frames. There were eight frames played each day with four frames in the afternoon and four in the evening (five on the final day). Both sessions on the first day ended level, leaving the score 4–4 overnight. The players were again level after the second day, Dennis winning three frames in the afternoon and McConachy three in the evening. McConachy won three frames on the final afternoon to lead 11–9. In frame 19, with all the reds of the table, McConachy made a break of 72 with 9 reds and 9 blacks, winning the frame 92–32. In the evening session Dennis won two of the first three frames to trail 12–11. In frame 24 McConachy made an early break of 47 and won the frame 93–36 to win the match 13–11.
The 2015 Betfred World Snooker Championship was a professional snooker tournament that took place from 18 April to 4 May 2015 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. It was the 39th consecutive year that the World Snooker Championship had been held at the Crucible and was the last ranking event of the 2014/2015 season.Betfred sponsored the event for the first time in three years, having previously sponsored the tournament from 2009 to 2012. The final was officiated by Olivier Marteel, who became the first Belgian to do so.
Mark Selby was the defending champion, but he lost 9–13 in the second round to Crucible debutant Anthony McGill. Selby fell to the Crucible curse, becoming the 16th first-time champion who was unable to defend his title at the venue.

At the age of 38, Bingham became the oldest first-time world champion since Walter Donaldson in 1947, and the oldest player to win the title since Ray Reardon in 1978.
