Or (Russian:Орь) is a river in Orenburg Oblast of Russia and Aktobe Province of Kazakhstan. It is a left tributary of the Ural River, and is 332km long, with a drainage basin of 18600km². The river is formed by the confluence of the Shiyli and Terisbutak Rivers, which have their sources on the western slopes of the Mugodzhar Hills, and it joins the Ural River by the city of Orsk. Most of its discharge are from melting snow. The average discharge, 61km from its mouth, is 21.3m³/sek. The spring flooding lasts from April to mid-May. The rest of the year the waterlevel is very low. The river freezes in late October and is icebound until March - April. The river is used for irrigation and water supply.
Fingal is one of three counties into which County Dublin was divided in 1994. Swords is the county town. Large urban centres include Blanchardstown, Swords, Balbriggan, Castleknock, Howth, Malahide and Portmarnock. Small rural settlements exist in the northern and western parts of the county. The motto of the arms of Fingal reads "Flúirse Talaimh is Mara" meaning "Abundance of Land and Water". The motto reflects the strong farming and fishing ties historically associated with the area. It also features a Viking longboat, which represents the arrival of the Norse in Fingal, where they became integrated with the existing Irish.
Fingal is bordered by County Meath to the north, by Kildare to the west and by Dublin city to the south. At the Strawberry Beds, the River Liffey separates the county from South Dublin.
Fingal are an Irish traditional music band, based in the United States. The group was formed in New York in 2006, regularly tours across the United States and Europe, and released their debut album in October 2008 to critical acclaim.
Members
Dáithí Sproule is an Irish guitarist and singer of traditional Irish music. He was born and raised in Derry City in the north of Ireland and moved to Dublin for university in 1968. He was a member of such ground-breaking groups as Skara Brae and Altan, before joining Fingal.
James Keane is recognized as one of the masters of the Irish accordion. Castagnari issued a signature instrument to honor his achievements in Irish music and on the two row button accordion.
Randal Bays is among the few Americans who play Irish fiddle to gain serious respect for his music in Ireland. His 2005 release, “House to House” (with Roger Landes) was selected by the Irish Times as one of the top five traditional recordings of the year, and the Cork Examiner called him "a rare beast, a master of both the fiddle and the guitar.”
The Azmak River is a unique place for those who want to cool off and meet nature in a hot summer as one of the eye-catching natural beauties of Akyaka. It is a popular spot for both local and foreign governments with its crystal clear cold water, lush green vegetation and peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy the river with boat tours, watch ducks and fish swimming in the water or taste fresh fish at the permanent restaurant on the shore. The Azmak River offers a great escape for those who want to be alone with nature without feeling the heat.

Here are some of the basics on how to row drift boats and rafts on large rivers without many obstacles. With some basic skills and an awareness of safety, you too can navigate rivers and effectively put your fishing partners on fish. In this video, we use a Clackacraft Headhunter II Skiff on the Yakima River. Red's is a riverside fly shop and outfitter, and we rent out drift boats and rafts.
Rowing a drift boat on a river requires a combination of skill, technique, and knowledge of river dynamics. Here are a few tips to help you navigate and row effectively:
Positioning and Balance: Sit in the center of the boat to maintain balance and control. Keep your weight evenly distributed and adjust as necessary to counteract the forces of the current.
Grip and Oar Control: Grip the oars firmly but not too tightly. Use your fingers to control the angle and direction of the oars. Practice feathering the oars (rotating them perpendicular to the water surface) to minimize wind resistance.
Reading the Water: Learn to read the river's currents, riffles, eddies, and obstacles. Look for deeper channels and avoid shallow areas or submerged rocks. Understanding how water flows and interacts with obstacles will help you navigate more efficiently.
Steering Techniques: Use a combination of forward strokes, backward strokes, and sweeps to steer the boat. Forward strokes move the boat forward, while backward strokes can slow or stop it. Sweeps turn the boat by pushing water to the side.
Anticipate Obstacles: Look ahead and plan your route to avoid hazards such as rocks, logs, and overhanging branches. Make adjustments early to avoid last-minute maneuvers that could throw off your balance.
Communication with Passengers: If you have passengers in the boat, communicate with them about your intended route and any upcoming obstacles. Coordinate your movements to maintain stability and control.
Practice Maneuvers: Spend time practicing different rowing techniques and maneuvers in calm water before tackling more challenging river sections. This will help you build confidence and improve your skills.
Safety Precautions: Always wear a life jacket and familiarize yourself with the river's regulations and safety guidelines. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and water levels.
Respect Other River Users: Be courteous to other boaters, anglers, and wildlife. Yield the right of way when necessary and avoid disturbing sensitive habitats.
Continuous Learning: Keep learning and improving your rowing skills by seeking advice from experienced rowers, taking classes, and studying resources on river navigation and safety.
Remember that rowing a drift boat takes practice and experience. Be patient with yourself as you develop your skills and confidence on the water.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy:
Overture "The Hebrides (Fingal's Cave)", Op. 26, MWV P 7 (with Score)
Composed: 1830, revised 1832
Conductor: Claudio Abbado
Orchestra: London Symphony Orchestra
Felix Mendelssohn's concert overture The Hebrides (Die Hebriden) was composed in 1830, revised in 1832, and published the next year as his Op. 26. Some consider it an early tone poem.
It was inspired by one of Mendelssohn's trips to the British Isles, specifically an 1829 excursion to the Scottish island of Staffa, with its basalt sea cave known as Fingal's Cave. It was reported that the composer immediately jotted down the opening theme for his composition after seeing the island. He at first called the work To the Lonely Island or Zur einsamen Insel, but then settled on the present title. However, in 1834, the year after the first publication, Breitkopf & Härtel issued an edition with the name Fingalshöhle (Fingal's Cave) and this title stuck, causing some confusion.
Being a concert overture, The Hebrides does not precede a play or opera, but is instead a standalone composition in a form common for the Romantic period. Dedicated to King Frederick William IV of Prussia, then Crown Prince of Prussia, the B minor work became part of the standard orchestral repertoire and retains this position to the present day.
The music, though labelled as an overture, is intended to stand as a complete work. Although programme music, it does not tell a specific story and is not "about" anything; instead, the piece depicts a mood and "sets a scene", making it an early example of such musical tone poems. The overture consists of two primary themes; the opening notes of the overture state the theme Mendelssohn wrote while visiting the cave, and is played initially by the violas, cellos, and bassoons. This lyrical theme, suggestive of the power and stunning beauty of the cave, is intended to develop feelings of loneliness and solitude. The second theme, meanwhile, depicts movement at sea and "rolling waves".

Around 250 A.D. Finn MacCumhaill, or Fingal, was possibly an Irish general who had a band of faithful warriors - a Celtic parallel to King Arthur and his Round Table. Fingal is supposed to have been the father of Ossian, traditional bard of the Gaels.
Gaels migrated into Scotland from Ireland until the Norsemen began their raids on the Scottish coast, and the stories of Fingal would doubtless have come across too. Soon he became revered in Scotland and, boosted by the Ossianic heroic verse and songs, his name was a natural choice to assign to this dramatic and awe-inspiring cavern.
Ossian is the narrator and supposed author of a cycle of poems which the Scottish poet James Macpherson claimed to have translated from ancient sources in the Scots Gaelic. He is based on Oisín, son of Finn or Fionn mac Cumhaill, anglicised to Finn McCool, a character from Irish mythology.
Fingal's Cave on Staffa
Nowhere else is there a sea cave formed completely in hexagonally jointed basalt. Its appeal lies in the size, the sounds, the colours, and the remarkable symmetry of this 227 foot cavern, and by Nature's gift of fractured columns which form a crude walkway just above high water level, allowing exploring visitors to go far inside.
It became known as Fingal's Cave after the eponymous hero of an epic poem by 18th century Scots poet-historian James Macpherson. It formed part of his Ossian cycle of poems claimed to have been based on old Scottish Gaelic poems. In Irish mythology, the hero Fingal is known as Fionn mac Cumhaill, and it is suggested that Macpherson rendered the name as Fingal (white stranger).

US Air Forces video:Flying Tigers Bite BackThe 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG) of the Chinese Air Force in 1941--1942, famously nicknamed the Flying Tigers, was composed of pilots from the United States Army (USAAF), Navy (USN), and Marine Corps (USMC), recruited under presidential sanction and commanded by Claire Lee Chennault. The ground crew and headquarters staff were likewise mostly recruited from the U.S. military, along with some civilians.
The group consisted of three fighter squadrons with about 20 aircraft each. It trained in Burma before the American entry into World War II with the mission of defending China against Japanese forces. Arguably, the group was a private military contractor, and for that reason the volunteers have sometimes been called mercenaries. The members of the group had lucrative contracts with salaries ranging from $250 a month for a mechanic to $750 for a squadron commander, roughly three times what they had been making in the U.S. forces.
The Tigers' shark-faced fighters remain among the most recognizable of any individual combat aircraft of World War II, and they demonstrated innovative tactical victories when the news in the U.S. was filled with little more than stories of defeat at the hands of the Japanese forces.
The group first saw combat on 20 December 1941, 12 days after Pearl Harbor (local time). It achieved notable success during the lowest period of the war for U.S. and Allied Forces, giving hope to Americans that they would eventually succeed against the Japanese. While cross-referencing records after the war revealed their actual kill numbers were substantially lower, the Tigers were paid combat bonuses for destroying nearly 300 enemy aircraft,[1] while losing only 14 pilots on combat missions.[1] In July 1942, the AVG was replaced by the U.S. Army 23rd Fighter Group, which was later absorbed into the U.S. 14th Air Force with General Chennault as commander. The 23rd FG went on to achieve similar combat success, while retaining the nose art and fighting name of the volunteer un

I had the opportunity to fish at different spots around Fingal Head in northern New South Wales a few weeks ago. I've tried all sort of baits and lures, in river, beach or on rocks, and the result is not that surprising. In this video I will show you exactly where all the spots I have fished.

Dublin City is the entire area administered by Dublin City Council. However, when most people talk about 'Dublin', they also refer to the contiguous suburban areas that run into the adjacent counties of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin. This area is sometimes known as 'Urban Dublin' or the 'Dublin Metropolitan Area'. The population within the city (i.e. the administrative area controlled by Dublin City Council) was 505,739 at the census of 2006. Beyond this, at the same census the Dublin Region population was 1,186,159, whilst the Greater Dublin Area had a figure of 1,661,185.
