The Şırnak Province (Turkish:Şırnak ili, Kurdish:Parêzgeha Şirnex) is a Turkish province in southeastern Anatolia. As of 2013, the province had an estimated population of 475,255 people. The majority of the province's population is Kurdish.
Geography
The province borders Siirt Province to the north, Van Province to the northeast, Mardin Province to the west, Batman Province to the northwest, Syria to the southwest, and Iraq to the southeast. Şırnak Province has some mountainous regions in the west and the south, but the majority of the province consists of plateaus, resulting from the many rivers that cross it. These include the Tigris, and its tributaries Hezil and Kızılsu, and also Çağlayan. The most important mountains are the Cudi (2089 m), the Gabar, the Namaz and the Altın. Şırnak is the poorest province of Turkey with an average of 508 TL per capita.
Districts
Şırnak province is divided into 7 districts (capital district in bold):
Şırnak (Kurdish: Şirnex) is a Turkish town in southeastern Turkey. It is the capital of Şırnak Province, a new province that split from the Hakkari province. The Habur border gate with Iraq which is one of Turkey's main links to Middle Eastern countries is also on Şırnak.
Toponymy
It is believed that the settlement was originally called "Sehr-i Nuh" (the city of Noah) since it was near Cudi Mountain where Noah's Ark finally landed after the Flood. The original name later transformed into "Sernah".
Assyrians of Şırnak
Şırnak was originally an Assyrian settlement that encompassed a region known as Hakkari. The city was once a hub of bustling rural villages, but everyone either got massacred or fled in the Assyrian Genocide during World War I.
History
During the Guti Empire's reign in the region, a special inscription style called "civi zend" was invented. Mount Cudi, surrounded by other mountains to the east and northeast and plains to the west and southwest has a unique place in history. It is the mountain on which Noah's Ark is believed to have landed. One of its peaks, at over 2000 meters, is "Noah's Visit" (some Islamic scholars argue that Noah landed on Cudi mountain).
Population reviews of each electoral district are conducted before each general election, which can lead to certain districts being granted a smaller or greater number of parliamentary seats. Şırnak became a province in 1990 and first sent members of parliament to Ankara - three of them - the following year. The seat allocation was increased to four ahead of the 2011 election.
There are currently four sitting members of parliament representing Şırnak, one of which is from the governing party. Şırnak was a district where the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) ran independent candidates in an attempt to overcome the 10 percent national electoral threshold. Three independent candidates were elected here in 2011; all have since joined the BDP.

Travel Advisory Level 4 Road Trip through Eastern Turkey's Provinces Hakkâri, Şırnak, & Siirt
November 2020. Eastern Turkey. Here’s a two-day drive through the provinces Hakkâri (Kurdish: Colemêrg), Şırnak (Şirnex), and Siirt (Sêrt). At this time, since August 2020, USA had a Level 4 (highest level) travel advisory warning against travel in this region due to terrorist attacks, alleged arbitrary detention by Turkish security forces, and proximity to problems in Syria. While I can’t say whether or not the advisory is/was unfounded, I CAN report that the food is delicious and the people friendly, with beautiful scenic backdrops. A return longer visit is in order.
