Godzilla Appears at Godzilla Fest (ゴジラ ゴジラ・フェスに現る is a Gojira Gojira Fesu ni Arawaru)2020 tokusatsu short film directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa for Godzilla Fest Online 2020. Funded by TOHO Visual Entertainment, it kicked off a series of Nakagawa-directed shorts known as Fest Godzilla. It is unusual among the series for depicting Godzilla not as a real monster, but as a costume on a film set.
Plot
Japan is suddenly struck with disaster as alarms are sounded and emergency reports are broadcasted over the radio. In the Ginza district of Tokyo a group of civilians flee, with one exclaiming, "Godzilla!" Godzilla is then seen among the ravaged city and continues on his rampage. Fighter jets are deployed to engage the monster, but prove to have no effect. As Godzilla continues to topple buildings and trample cars, he passes by the Wako Main Building and approaches a reporter who is standing in the street. Godzilla stares the man down before unleashing a blast of atomic breath.
Suddenly a man calls, "Cut!" and the attack is revealed to have simply been a movie. Two staff members approach the Godzilla suit and help its actor emerge. The men look toward the camera and laugh, and the end card appears.

Production
According to a behind-the-scenes video released on YouTube, the short's monster scenes were filmed over two days in October 2020. Shot entirely outside on a Toho Studios lot, it made use of traditional tokusatsu techniques including suitmation, wire-operated plane models, miniature buildings, and pyrotechnics.[1] The Godzilla suit used appears to be a replica of the "MogeGoji" from 1994's Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, while the planes are genuine props that were used for the G-Force F-16s in 1993's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II.[2] An additional Godzilla head draped over a tripod was used for camera tests.[1] The short was filmed partially with an iPhone.[2]
